Windows 2003 Server

I have Windows 2003 server, but the Samsung TS_H653L is not working due to driver problem. Can anyone help?
I bought HP Desktop computer with Vista preloaded, but due to compatibilty reasons, I have uninstalled vista and installed Windows Server 2003. Right after this, my CD/DVD driver and sound card is not working. Can any one help please?

Try uninstalling the CD/DVD drive and the sound card in device manager (not actually physically removing these devices, just tell WIndows to uninstall them). Then restart your PC and let Windows "find" the "new" hardware, then let Windows try to choose a driver for you. Hopefully the default drivers Windows chooses will work and you can at least be sure these devices still function. Then you can worry about updating the drivers.

How to share a Linux printer with Windows 2003 server?
I need to connect a linux (PCLinuxOS) printer to Windows Server 2003 server. I tried to use the Samba method but somehow Windows Server 2003 says I don't have the access right to use the printer even though I can connect to linux and see the existence of the printer. Any idea?

You need to set a valid user and password on the 2003 server matching someone on the Linux box. You could set up a user specifically for this.

Which is easier to install and why, Windows 2003 Server of Red Hat Enterprise Linux?
I'm doing a little research into the ease of installation of the two primary server OS's, Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5 and Windows Server 2003. I meant to say Windows 2003 Server or Red Hat Enterprise. Which one is the least complicated to install?

This depends entirely on what you're doing with the systems and what CDs you are using with what kind of patch level incorporated into them. While I have not installed RHE 5, I've installed linux a number of times and it can be fairly easy... but then again, so can windows. The question then becomes what other services you want/need. And frankly, this also depends on what you are familiar with. If you've done the RHE isntall 25 times, then you know it well and it should be quick and easy. Likewise if you've done the Windows install 25 times, then it should be quick and easy. Otherwise, it's going to take longer in both cases.

How to configure Static IP to Windows Server 2003 Machine?
I have a static IP, CISCO 2800 Series router and Windows 2003 server machine. My internet line is connected to Router (DHCP enabled) which has one static IP. Now i want to assign an Statis IP for 2003 Server machine so that i can access that machine from any where in the world? Please suggest me with clear details. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean access from anywhere in the world? Remote Desktop? Using a static NAT statement, you can forward port 3389 (Port Required for remote desktop, to your internal server) on your Cisco router. Set a static IP address on your server on your INTERNAL network (192.168.0.10 or something similar) - so if your computers are pulling DHCP from the router, and getting an ip like 192.168.0.101 - make sure you put the server in the same network - 192.168.0.10 for instance) On the Cisco router, you'll want to do this on the command line. You should be able to telnet to the router (IP address of the inside interface, or the default gateway for the clients on the internal network) or plug in with a console cable. I know this will work on PIX's - on that 2800 series the syntax might be a little different, post a comment if it does not work - and I'll make sure to get you the right one. static (inside, outside) tcp ---.---.---.--- 3389 ***.***.***.*** 3389 netmask 255.255.255.255 0 0 The first blanks (the hyphens ----) That is your EXTERNAL STATIC IP ADDRESS The second blanks (the ****) That is your IP ADDRESS OF THE SERVER So this statement says - anything coming in from the outside interface, that is 3389 traffic, go to the server on port 3389. NOW - from anywhere in the world - you can remote desktop to your external IP address, and it will allow you to connect to your server. =) ---- Also ---- The post above me says open some other ports. You would open these the same way. On the above statement, where it says 3389 - replace both of those with port 80, and 443. This is HTTP (80) and HTTPS (443). So if you ran a website on the server, or have mail hosted (Exchange) - this would allow web mail access, and http website access via external IP address. May I suggest purchasing a domain name, like COMPANYNAME.COM and then point that to your external static IP address. That way you can just remote desktop to MYCOMPANYNAME.COM instead of IP address. Then you can host a website, and mail, and all the good stuff =)

Can I run a vmware windows 2003 server machine on a inspiron mini 9?
I am planning on acquiring a Dell mini 9 with Windows XP Home pre-installed and 1GB of RAM. From time to time I need to run a Windows 2003 server virtual machine to do presentations. Can I do it from the mini 9?

You should be able to... just be aware... both XP and Server 2003 like to utilize RAM and that system can't have much... things will probably be slow.

How to remove windows vista and install windows 2003 server or windows xp?
I have a new dell xps 410 desktop on vista home edition. I want to remove that and install either windows 2003 server or windows xp. I tried to do it but it does not allow me to remove the vista from the system. Has anyone come across such situation or have solutions for this issue?

When you boot up your PC, keep pressing F12 and select boot from disc. Insert your disc (XP) and run it. When u get to the stage that it asks u where u wanna put it, select the same drive (C\:) that your Vista is on. and your done! It should overwrite and install XP. If pressing F12 does not help then boot up and keep pressing DELETE. Go into your BIOS and select first boot device as your disc (XP) and proceed as normal (explained above) easy wen u know how

How can I migrate users and setting from one Windows 2003 server to another?
Hi, My client wants to purchase a brand new server running Windows 2003 Standard. They currently have a Windows 2003 Standard server, but want to move it to another office. How can I save all the user accounts and settings from the older server to place it on new one? Thanks Epic

This site is not designed for conversational solutions to problems - which is what you need given the incomplete question... I would suggest asking this on www.tek-tips.com or www.experts-exchange.com or even a newsgroup. Those sites are intended to have conversations and can help you answer this quickly and easily. Here's a short, incomplete (because I can't be complete without more information) answer: If your using a domain, this is not a problem. Just make the new server a DC in the existing domain. Then make sure that you have some kind of WAN link that can provide full connectivity between DCs at least once a month for a few hours (site-to-site VPN for example). If you're not using a domain, then you're out of luck. The accounts are unique to the server and even if you created accounts with the same name, they would not necessarily have the same permissions because their SIDs would be different (they are uniquely generated at the time of creation)

How to install Windows 2003 server in the linux system?
I have a redhat Linux operating system..........(new system)....I have two hard drives. One of the hard disks has Linux in it.....In the other hard disk, I am planning to Load Windows 2003 Server.......After loading the Windows 2003 server , I need to boot through the Windows 2003 OS..... I mean, I need dual boot option....So that I can select the OS while booting.... How do I load Windows 2003 Server ? Is there, any sequence which I need to follow. Give me step-by step instructions.... After loading Windows 2003 server, I should be able to boot through it... Finally, I should be able to selelect either Linux or Windows 2003 while booting.... Please help.. Thanks...

I would disconnect the LINUX hard drive and install Windows 2003 Server on the other HD. Once Windows 2003 is configured - disconnect that HD and boot into LINUX and make this change: You need to add one line to lilo.conf specifying where the Windows 2003 boot files are located and run LILO when the changes are complete. There are many resources out there which provide detailed instructions for doing this.
