Windows 2003 Hosting
Can I host multiple sites on a single IP on Windows 2003 Standard Server?
Also, if I have a web server (IIS) on Windows 2003 Standard Server and it's not belong to a domain (e.g. mydomain), can I enable the feature so that only users from mydomain can access it?
For the first part, the answer is probably "no"
You can only have one http://www.blahblah.com per IP.
You _could_ do subdomains like:
http://mail.blahblah.com or
http://myMonkey.blahblah.com
I can't really answer the second part.
is mac os x server or leopard a good replacement for windows server 2003?
i am planning to replace my windows server 2003 domain controller into a mac os x server. i was wondering if a mac os x server/leopard can do everything that a windows server 2003 can do? can you install windows applications remotely using mac os x server into your windows clients? can windows clients open or run a file hosted in a mac os x/leopard file server? which is better when it comes to security, reliability ana price? thank you so much in advance.
Sure, it can replace a Windows 2003 server. It supports both Mac and PC clients, etc. I am not sure about the installation of windows clients remotely, but windows clients can run files off of the server.
My guess is that prices would be similar (or possibly an edge to the Mac) when you look at TCO, total cost of ownership (supporting the machine, buying add-ons, security software, etc...)
Our 4+ year old Xserve has been running solid since we bought it.
Note that Leopard server is due out in a few months, so you can wait, or see if you can get a deal on the current Panther server.
If you haven't already done so, check out the links from Apple:

Can't see any computers in Entire Network in Windows 2003 domain?
I work as an IT admin in a small company.
We recently moved many of our XP machines from an NT4.0 domain to a Windows 2003 domain(DomainA). The problem is that now when you click Entire Network none of the computers in the network show up. We didn't have this problem when all computers were part of the NT4.0 domain. The NT server is still running, but it hosts a different domain (DomainB)
I've examined the packets going across the wire, and the computers are broadcasting NetBIOS names, DNS & DHCP is configured on the 2003 Domain Controller. I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone help me?
The XP machines were unjoined from DomainA and joined to DomainB. They are 2 completely different domains with different names. DomainB is still running, but is not used anymore. I want to eventually get rid of it completely, but not until I resolve all these problems.
Almost all client computers are on the same domain (DomainA) and all clients/servers are on the same segment (no routing between them). It has been this way for over 3 weeks. I've tried the netstat -r command to no avail,
I've checked that the DNS settings are set to the AD server. I'll have to try the DNS one when I get to the office tomorrow. The computers all appear under User and Computers in AD, and the DC can view them in Entire Network fine, but when you try to pull up Entire Network on a client it will only show itself. Some computers will also not be able to resolve a computer name to an ip address.
If I'm reading your notes correctly, your computers are currently joined to the old domain. IF this is the case, they won't be listed under the new domain, as their listing will be controlled by the local browse master.
Two things you can do...
1. Leave the old domain and rejoin each computer to the new domain.
2. Establish a trust between the two domains and allow mutual browsing in the settings
I can't browse to websites hosted on my Windows 2003 server. I understand that it is a "loopback" issue.
call ISP....
but 1st do this trouble shooting
turn off the anti-viruz your have
turn off the firewall
start>control pannel>internet options>delete cookies and files> privacy tab> lower down the privacy slider until it says accept all cookies> click on apply then ok...
power cycle the PC to reset the settings> then try to browse the site> if you still have the same problem.. call your Internet Service Provider...
Email, Windows Server 2003?
Do I need to register for a domain name to host email on my windows 2003 server?
Well you have to have a domain name. If you have one on some other server you can always use a "subdomain" name for the Windows server but you have to get a DNS entry to map to an IP address and that uses a domain name.
How to host and install a phpbb forum with My SQL server on windows server 2003?
I am running my website on IIS 6.0 and have already installed MySQL server 5.0 on the system
Hi KSulli,
To host your website you need to have web sever running php.
So do one thing download XAMPP from the below given link and then just follow simple steps to install xampp on your windows machine.
http://www.apachefriends.org/download.php?xampp-win32-1.5.5-installer.exe
Yes but before that please uninstall your mysql server installation as XAMPP is collection of PHP+Apache+MySQL.
After that for example if you have installed your xampp on the path like this....
H:\Program Files\xampp\
then goto
H:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\
and copy your phpbb forum files here.
Before all that you need to start Apache and MySQL services from XAMPP control panel.
So first do that.
Once you install and start xampp and start all services.
open your browser and type http://localhost/
you will see xampp panel.
Now goto http://localhost/phpmyadmin/
and create one database named phpbb or whatever you like.
now copy phpbb unzipped folder to H:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\
like
H:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs\phpbb
and type http://localhost/phpbb
Now follow easy steps to install phpbb
when it ask for database name give name of the database you have created in the above step.
So it is easy.
You can get more help from:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/faq-xampp-windows.html
Good Luck.
don't hesitate to ask me again.
somehow I was unable to reply you in mail it denied to send you mail so answering your question here.
I can help you in hosting and developing websites as well.
As I am freelance web-developer.
Don't forget to disable IIS before you install xampp as both will fight for your machine's port 80.

Can not get connecity to router from windows 2003 server?
I have a server which can not communicate to the router on a segment. All i get when pinging the router is "Destination IP address unreachable". This is happening on now 2 servers. The only difference now is that we moved the servers from one location to another. They are on the correct VLAN. We have tested other PCs on the same cable line and have not issues.
I can ping the 127.0.0.1with a response
I can ping the static IP address on the NIC of the servers
I can not ping any other hosts on the same segment.
I have tested the cable by placing my laptop on the same line and can get to the router.
I have also tried switching out the NICs on the servers. Still get the same results.
We have cleared the MAC addresses from the switch.
Any other Ideas would greatly be appreciated. It's almost seems like the TCP/IP stack is corrupt and I am unsure of how to fix this.
If you ping the IP but not the name its a DNS issue.

I'd suggest you contact a MCSE in your area for assistance.

I won't support Server related issues on yahoo answers. It's a conflict of interest for the financial interests of my business.
If you can afford to purchase server software you can afford to purchase server support.
