http://www.hostsnake.com
i've been using them for a while now and they are great! they hit all your criteria..
What should I be looking for in a website host ?
I have a few website projects and although I am skilled in programming I am not that well educated on web hosts -- what's a good price, key factors in evaluating them.
All 3 sites rely on a large amount of database interaction. Probably similar in many ways to this site.
If you can recommend a good host and informative reasons why, that would be great.
If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months' time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.
I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.
Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/
They offer hosting of "unlimited domains" and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge $5.95/month and they offer "a free Domain Name" and installing service called "Fantastico". By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer "Free Website Builder" as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Domains
Following site is quite good to register domains as price is reasonable with free privacy. Some charge about $5/ year just for free privacy.

Where can I find a free website host?
Where can I find a free website host with no ads or banners etc., with at least 5 mysql databases, ftp, CPanel, Fantastico (or similar), and more than 100MB webspace + reasonable bandwidth. I also need a free webhost that can use my existing domain. I know I've put a lot of high requirements but I do know that there are many web hosts that offer this for free. I'm just fed up with registering and discovering the pop ups and annoying catches. Or rather, can someone direct or offer me an affordable webhosting (less than £5)?
Thanks in advance!

i want to create my own website to advertise the sale of my house. What is the best way to find a web host?
the website host should allow video tours as well as photos of the home. I want to be able to advertise the website address in our home fliers and newspaper ad, so the url address should be able to take interested viewers directly to our home information without having to do alot of click-throughs to get there.
The best way is to get free hosting and starter web page, blog etc... with cheap domains.

What is the best cheap website host for an eCommerce app?
I just got into website creating just to create a single ecommerce site. I used godaddy for hosting and oscommerce for the shopping cart. It didn't work out too well, and I had trouble installing it. What is a good, cheap hosting site that works well with something like oscommerce? And is there any way to repair the damage that I might have accidentally done to the domain?
I am hosting my website at http://aplis.net/ . You can also give them a try. First month free.
What is a good recommended website host?
I want to start my own website and I'm looking for a good website host, I'm not looking to sell things on my website, i just want a reliable good quality host, with features like e-mail, cheap domain name, etc...
Well, it depends on how much you want to spend.
1. The cheapest option I know is:
http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European web hosting companies, currently hosting over 500 000 websites. They have plans starting from $3.75/month. Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor (so you can build a website without knowledge of HTML), Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. Check them out.
2. Godaddy has a couple of nice plans:
http://www.hosttell.com/godaddy/
3. For $5.78/month I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html
Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion. You can use the promo code PLUS at sign up page and get the $50 discount + 2 Free domain names. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month). You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of sites on a single plan.
Disk space: Unlimited + 50GB backup space
Bandwidth: Unlimited
2 Free domain names
Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)
4. If you're willing to pay $20+/monthly for hosting I recommend:
http://www.mediatemple.com
http://www.slicehost.com
P.S. I recommend Dreamhost. They offer the best options for the price.
What website host is the best for a small business (price, look, space, etc..)?
I am starting a small business and am looking for a website host but I'm getting a bit lost among all the offers and prices and... since I'm just getting started, I don't really know just HOW MUCH I need, you know, and I don't have much money to spare on websites so... if anyone could help, I'd appreciate it a great deal. Thanks! :)

How do I host my own website on my computer?
My friend did it on his and I have seen it on his actual PC, he calls through localhost and calls his external IP and it is 100% free and legal to both ISP and law. He won't tell me how he did it because he wants to host me on it for free, but I want my own with 24/7 access on my PC, I will redirect my external IP path with Freedomain.co.nr dynamic IP.
Well you are nearly setup if all you say you have done is live.
Localhost should be working NOW if WAMP is installed and running! Try it from your laptop. If it is not working now as you say you are setup then you need to find out why cause your server isn't running if it doesn't work.
For a web server to work you have to get the IP to see your computer.. most of the time this is done with a live URL..
like yourdomain.com etc. So register a domain, then at the same location have them register some nameservers for you or have them run nameservers for you. Point the nameservers at your IP!
Second if you are behind a router with your computer (you can connect it directly to some DSL/Cable lines) you will need to forward the following services
Port 21 (for FTP)
Port 23 (for SSH)
Port 25 (for mail)
Port 53 (for DNS if you run the DNS servers)
Port 80 (for webserver)
Port 110 (for SMTP mail)
Port 443 (for secure https --if needed)
Forward these ports to your laptops nated IP like 192.168.0.101 etc.. once that is done you can reach your website from the web using your IP or if you registered a domain name with the domain!
Your firewall will also need to accept traffic to these ports.
ideal internet download and upload speed to host website at the office?
At the office we have 4 mbps download and 512 kbps upload speed. Is this enough to host a website? And how fast are the upload and download speeds of sites like youtube, ebay, etc. Thanks!
It depends on how much content you'll have on your web site. If it's graphic intensive, it's probably not going to be enough, but if it's only text based, it'll be fine for now. It also depends on how many users you expect to be using it at the same time, if you plan on allowing remote access to your systems, and other connections to you from the outside. It would not be unusual for a site like E-Bay to have multiple DS-3's or OC-3's from multiple ISPs so that they can do load balancing across them. These are large sites though, so there's not much sense comparing them unless you plan on becoming the "next big thing." There's some stats at the bottom of the link below, but it doesn't really tell their actual bandwidth from their providers.
