Before you do anything, please note that you will be a business. And with that come certain responsibilities and liabilities. These days, the barrier to entry to opening a web business is very low so it attracts many people. That being said, to be successful, you should know a few things about business too not just computers. Yes, write some code, get a check would seem to work, but what happens when it stops working. Will you take off school to fix it? What if you cost the customer lost time and money? Can they sue you? Customers are very demanding. That is why I don't consult as much as I used to. When you do something, you become the business. The buck stops with you. I think you first need to do what very few people do, create a business plan. Write down who you want to be your customers. Determine how you will reach them. What you are willing to accept as compensation. What type of contract you will have. How will you handle disagreements (cuz there will be disagreements). Determine how much time you really have to devote to this endeavor and figure out how you will deliver it to your customers. I applaud your efforts to do something with yourself. The web certainly is an easier place to create a new type of "lemonade" stand. Now, as for your website. It is not cross browser compliant. It works differently in FF, Chrome, and IE. You need to work on fixing that. It may be the piczo site library that isn't CBC. Also, I think you need to read up on simple user interface design rules. Blue on black is poor contrast. Yellow on blue, black/blue on white, improve contrast and readability. Good luck.

As the topic says. I am extremely familiar with HTML. I use the latest design tools to aid in web development (Photoshop CS2, Dreamweaver 8, Flash 8, etc.) as well as I am strong in Flash animation/actionscript, extremely familiar with Dreamweaver and very familiar with Photoshop CS2. I will be in charge of designing the website as well as managing it for my cousin instead of designing the website and letting her do all the content changes and such. First of all, you are going to have to decide what you want to use for your website before you can get books on it. Here are some component ideas that you could use to determine what you first want in website development: 1) You need to determine if you are using a unix/linux host or a windows host. unix/linux is more stable, but harder to master, and windows is easier, but a bit less stable. 2) Once you pick one from above, you will have to pick a database type based on your choice. The database will hold all your websites information. If you chose linux/unix, you will want to look at MySQL and if you chose windows, you will want something like SQL Server. 3) Once you have chosen a database type, you will need a server-side language for serving up results to search etc. If you chose unix/linux with the mysql, you will probably want PHP. If you chose windows with SQL server, you will probably want ASP.NET. 4) You might want to do a bit of client side tricks and data handling. The best for that is JavaScript. 5) You will need a comprehensive book on Cascading style sheets (CSS) / HTML / Web Design. Usually you can find a book that uses all three. Now use the tools you determined above to reference what books you should look at below in the sources section. Good luck!

I have a solid, profitable idea for a website - and while I know it's possible to build the site I have in mind, I'm not a programmer and I have no idea how to go about it.
