Webserver Configuration

Is this switch Level One FBR-4000 suitable to connect two ISP to a webserver?
My configuration is: 2 different ISP and a single webserver. I need to connect the server for redundance (outbound traffic) and wondering if this is the right solution.

Well there are several good multi wan units available. http://www.peplink.com/ has some good ones. Like this one http://www.peplink.com/products/balance-200-300/ as do Cisco, Linksys and many others BUT with a single web server.. how do any of these balance your OUTBOUND traffic from that server? If a request comes in on line one, it will reply, it has to. If it comes in on line two, it will reply, it has to, I finally realized this and went to a data center with redundant OC192's... it was much cheaper and much better than an in-house solution and they even monitor the servers status! That way the server is always online and 24x7 monitored and has true balanced redundancy.

Advance Linux servers configuration?
I have just completed RHCE. I have learned the basic of linux. Now i want to get the advance knowledge. Can anyone can tell me the websites, where i can get the Advance configuration of the all the servers. like mailservers, webserver, LDAP, iptables etc etc. Thanks// Vikas

I can point you to some, all depends on what you are using as the admin packages etc. http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Web-Hosting/Linux-Server-Administration/1 http://www.linuxtoday.com/infrastructure/2008030501126NWHLSV Just a good search for Apache, iptables, etc will return a wealth of information. Also use this one for security issues http://www.linuxsecurity.com/ One of the best guides is in book form.. You can always use the book. http://oreilly.com/catalog/9780596009526/ If you don't have it, you should get it. and of course the "Linux Bible" http://www.reuters.com/article/pressRelease/idUS27492+22-Feb-2008+BW20080222 Good Luck

How do i create a server on a dynamic IP?
How can i create a webserver, that i can publish my website on (windows), with: 1. Dynamic IP 2. Router, which needs to reset to save updates. I figured out ways but when i goto the server, i get the router configuration gateway, is there any way to overcome it?

if, you have several computers, generally your ip wont change anyway. when you start your server it will request the last ip address from the router. if its available then the router will issue it the same ip. i personally run a static ip. even though my router is dhcp. so the server in my house has to request a specific ip address. i then forward all requests for my public ip / port - so xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 (where x is your ip and the 80 means the public port) to my local ip port 80. for me its 192.168.2.85 - i chose a high ip just incase i get a few more computers down the road :-) the same goes for other ports, such as mysql, mssql, smtp, pop etc etc. one other thing, dependant on your isp, they may not reset your ip address regularly. if you need a website then dyndns is good, just because it can handle changes in ip's and will auto change the ip to replicate your computer, so you can always access your website externally. PLEASE - be EXTREMELY careful when opening your port 80 to the internet. i cant stress that enough! prepare to be hacked, disable any accounts called Administrator or root and create one called yourname01 or something, 10 digit password, mixed with letters and numbers. also if you want to remote desktop to your computer (if supported) via a website address, you will also want to forward port 3389 to your computers ip. any problems, please email me. i run a webhosting company :-)

Which linux Operating System is best for me?
I'm using a system with a following configuration 160 GB seagate hardisk 2.8 GHz P4 processor 512 mb ram I need to run a webserver in my system. Mostly the system would be used for browsing and for other online applications. please suggest an Operating System (Other than windows) that best suits me. Also What are the other softwares recommended for that.. Thank you very much for your answers.

Rather than suggest a distro I'm going to suggest you check out a linux distribution chooser. These are webscripts which ask you more specific questions then point you towards which of the larger and more popular distros might better serve your needs: http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/ http://tuxs.org/chooser/ http://desktoplinuxathome.com/distro.html There is, of course, no reason to even use linux. When I hear about the lack of support FreeBSD is supposed to have for hardware, I think about the gnarly times my efforts on it have -- which resulted in successful installations as often as not. Given your requirements you may well find one of the more technical or even smaller linuxes might be best for you (fluxbox can be a REALLY good desktop). Research Gentoo, period. It requires you to recompile the kernel but when I'm out of the house it allows me to browse the web on a Pentium MMX with 80M memory -- and with today's web that IS an accomplishment. I'm only recommending you research it though -- as the old saying goes if you have it or debian installed on your computer you can forget about a social life (and I'm typing this on debian). For the best results you shall probably have to try two or three distros over time ANYHOW, even if it is a hassle, so I would suggest going to the distro choosers above and letting them guide you.

PHPMYSQL Incomplete Page Loads?
Hi!, I just moved my phpmysql code to another local pc with the same webserver configurations[xampp, php 5.1.1,mysql5 Windows XP Pro.], but I face incomplete page loads regularly. I've tried a lot of options without success and it's started to get frustrating. Any ideas? Thanks for replying so quickly... Sorry, I should have been more detailed. I checked the apache error log and do not have any error entries there, enabled error_reporting(15) at the top of my index.php. Nothing there too. Checked my connection scripts, nothing there too. Each time I go to a page on the new server, i may need to hit 'refresh' some 5/6 times before the whole thing loads (if it does at all). Any suggestions

are you able to get an error message, or do you know what code runs after the last part of your page that will load? Most likely it is a configuration issue, but without an error message or code sample it would be hard to guess.

How do I set up the router that it allows people to access my webserver, not to access it's config page?
Hi, I'm using a Zyxel router to connect to the Internet. I set up a web server using windows server 2008, it works well on my local network, but when my friend try to access it using Internet, it keeps showing the Zyxel router configuration page, how do I set up the router that it allows people to access my web server, not the router's page? Thanks a lot!

I'm not a web server pro, but you'd have to tell the router to allow port 80 direct to port 80 on your public IP address from the local address of the server. So..let me clarify. Most routers have a Virtual Servers page, or some page that allows certain traffic to go through the router and not "intercepted" through it. I would give your Windows Server a static local IP Address. Tell the router to direct port 80 on your Public IP address to port 80 on your web server's static local IP address.

TROUBLE connecting to my router with external IP?
I have set up an apache webserver on a machine in my Network, i am running 2 PCs, i have a static IP setup and i can connect fine to my apache server through my local area connection 10.0.0.2,but when i try to connect through my routers external IP adress I'm redirected to a user setup asp login page, prompting me for a user name and password, i dont understand why this is? and where the Username and Password is comming from. i gather it mite have somthing to do with my router configuration because i cant seem, to ping my routers external ip adress either?. I have tried to configure my router to forward to my local IP 10.0.0.2, but still, when i try to open my pages with internet explorer through my routers external IP, i'm promted with the asp login screen. I have also checked with my ISP and they say its nothing to do with them they are not blocking the gateway,is this a router confgureation problem? or maybe somthing to do with Windows XP security settings?? i have searched

Seems you need to configure your router. From the manual find the default IP to get the the router's configuration pages. You will have to log on to get in. If you have not set it before the manual will tell you the default username and password. If you have changed this and forgot the user/pw then you can press the reset button to set the router back to the factory defaults. Once you are inside the router's configuration you will have to set up "Port Forwarding". Here you select what services you want to allow access to from the real world Internet. HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, etc. And you tell the router what internal IP address to send requests to. Here it is good to have your server use a static IP address. To go one step further, get a free regristration to DynDns.org. Browse to it from your server. There you can select a domain name like "MyCoolServer.Homelinux.com" and now your server will be easily found when people browse the Internet.

Intrusion Detection - Detecting attacks against a web server?
A logfile from a thttpd web server that served a small, low volume traffic, site a couple of years ago. I need to go through that logfile using whatever means and answer the following questions: • What sort of webserver is it that is being run? (What kind of pages are being served, does it use any noteworth configuration etc?) • What accesses (or attempted accesses) were benign and what were malicious? • Are there different kinds of attack? • Can you correlate different attacks, i.e. are certain requests coming from the same attacker, the same kind of attacker? • Can you differentiate between automated and manual attacks (i.e. a programmed attack and an attack that has been scripted)? What about the entity behind the attacks, i.e. automated versus human attacker? The logfile (more or less) follows the standard http apache common log file format with the access log and error log combined into one logfile.

Dear friend On this subject i can't tell in you in all details. As even i Don't know about all but about some i know. anyway the better idea is to search on google for this will be better for you on each topic to get in depth.
