What is the Best Web Hosting Service, with the most amount of options to choose from, 2 build a website & host
I have used Homestead for years, but need a chance, I am looking for a WEB HOSTING company that has many options, and not alot of this file can't be used, etc. I want to be able to either place my own template, web page I create and edit in the site builder the service offers or Build a new site with the Web Services. Please help What is the best one out there that won't cost me a arm and leg? I appreciate your help. Thank you What is better Linux OS or Windows? I do not know a thing about Linux, but at HostNed they recommend Linux Hosting Package. Do I need any special software, or does it work the same?

Hi! One thing to remember is that when you go with a cheaper hosting company the service will reflect that to some degree. Also in terms of options most companies offer the same thing which is all you really need. Here are answers to your specific questions: Site Builder / Template I recommend not using a hosting companies site builder as then you will be stuck with them forever. Buy a template and customize it how you want and host that with them. Then if they suck its easier to move :) What is better Linux OS or Windows? The only reason you need Windows is if you want to use ASP or something like that and Windows hosting tends to cost more. For a simple website just go with Linux. You don't need to know anything about Linux to use it as you will just be using FTP to upload your files and the hosting companies control panel which will be really simple! Do I need any special software, or does it work the same? Nope you don't need any special software, it all works the same. Even if you moved to a Windows host it would work fine in most cases. So which host? Your requirements are pretty broad as you probably want to spend about $10 dollars a month and just need a small linux package. Here are some recommendations: Some larger hosts that have a good reputation: HostGator - www.hostgator.com - Good host, I use them for a dedicated server. Lunarpages - www.lunarpages.com - Has a good reputation and very active forums community that is super nice and helps with a lot of stuff. HostNine - www.hostnine.com - Newer host but one of the fastest growers this year and great reviews. BlueHost/HostMonster - bluehost.com/hostmonster.com - Nice solid cheap host. btw, all the above use cpanel which is a really easy to use control panel that you are going to love! If that isn't enough for you try the below tool, it can sort through every host in WebHostingUnleashed.com's database by all sorts of factors, the below is set to sort for every host that has more than 6 reviews with a combined rating of 85% or more, about 32 came back. http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/compare/search?sort=num_reviews&dir=1&field[]=num_reviews&rel[]=gt&val[]=6&field[]=percent_recommend&rel[]=gt&val[]=80

Help setting up your own web hosting service?
I'm currently trying to setup a personal web hosting service for my friends where they get an area of web space, etc, for them to use. Basically, a free web hosting service, etc with PHP, and all possible. Does anyone know how I could go about setting this service up? ( If I were to get a HostGator/webspace account, etc)

I recommend Dreamhost for this http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html With them it's really easy to create sub-accounts under your main account, so your friends can have their own web space, separate control panels, ftp access, everything with their own usernames/passwords. And it's even cheaper (and better plan) than Hostgator. Their standard price is $9.95/month ($119.40/year) but you can use the promo code PLUS and get $50 discount +2 Free domain names. Disk space: Unlimited Bandwidth: Unlimited 2 Free domain names Unlimited domains and subdomains Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

Any suggestions for a web hosting service?
A close friend of mine is planning to execute a professional website in the near future. Although I know one or two things about web services, I was wondering what would be best for a photographer. Another thing to keep in mind is sufficient amount of space for a moderately large sum of photographs displayed in a rather elaborate flash document... if that makes any sense.

Well, it depends on how much you want to spend. 1. For up to $5 I recommend: http://www.hosttell.com/one/ 2. For $5-$10 I recommend Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html Their standard price is $119.40/year ($9.95/month if you pay yearly) but they currently have a promotion. You can use the promo code PLUS at sign up page and get the $50 discount + 2 Free domain names. This way you get them for $69.40/year ($5.78/month). You can use their huge Disk Space and host unlimited number of subdomains and domains on a single plan. Disk space: 500 GB Bandwidth: 5000 GB 2 Free domain names Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year) 3. If you're willing to pay $20+/monthly for hosting I recommend: http://www.mediatemple.com http://www.slicehost.com

What type of features should the web hosting service have?
I'm trying to figure out the best route for my hypothetical online t-shirt shop. (It's an assignment). I'm trying to figure out which hosting would be best. What type of features do you think I'd need? And would I need linux or windows? Why would I need windows? Why would I need to use SQL?

Hi, When choosing a web host it's of course important to consider the cost (some hosting can be very expensive) but here are some other important things you should take into consideration too: Web Hosting Space: Some web hosts will only give you 500MB or so of space. This could be a concern if you are looking at creating large websites. Bandwidth: Some web hosts will severely limit the bandwidth you can use before you incur extra charges. Uptime: There's no point in having a website if people can't see it. Does your web host offer at least a 99% uptime guarantee? Number of websites allowed: If you're looking to host more than one website on your account, will your web host charge you more to do this? Support: If you have any problems you need to be able to contact your web host quickly and easily to get the problem sorted. I have used Hostgator as my web host for over two years now and have been very very impressed with them. Firstly they're very cheap but still give me more web hosting space and bandwidth than I'll ever need, the ability to host unlimited websites, a 99.9% uptime guarantee and great customer support. You can find them at http://www.webhostgator.info

Is there a way to see what web hosting service a website is using?
If the website doesn't display who's hosting their website, is there somewhere else where you can find out the information such as the HTML code or elsewhere?

Enter the domain name at a WhoIs site like this one - http://www.betterwhois.com/ And look at the info for nameservers. That will usually be enough info to figure out their host. Joyce http://www.DesignByJoyce.com/

Which web hosting service should I use for my new website ?
Also, how do you assure that your site appears near the top of a search engine search ?

There is literally thousands of web hosting options out there. I would strongly recommend that you take a look at several to find the best match. Keep in mind your expectations. What do you want the appearance to be? What kind of features do you expect to have? How will you drive targeted traffic to your site? And so on....Then when you compare hosts and options, first compare feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. Using this process will ensure that you get the best fit for your needs and the most value for you money. As far as assuring that your site appears near the top of the search engine, you will want to build a site full of valuable content. It is the structure and keywording in your site that will drive natural traffic from the search engines. The web host that I use teaches a powerful website building process called CTPM which helps to gain the highest rankings on the search engines. The CTPM process is in a specific order to ensure the best results. C stands for content. Content should be the primary focus. Valuable content makes up the firm foundation of any successful website. T stands for traffic. Traffic is the second focus. Focusing on how you build traffic with your content must come before monetization. If it is not the second focus the money most likely will not come. At the least it will not be at it's best. P stands for presell. By focusing on building valuable content and over-delivering with information about what the visitor is seeking. They will build trust and be pre-sold and ready to buy. M stands for monetization. Monetization is the last part of the process. It is also the easiest. If you have done well in building your content right and followed the CTP the M=monetization process comes naturally, converting warm, targeted visitors. The web host that I use also analyzes each step of the process to help ensure the best results. If you would like to look at them as one of your hosting options you can see them at http://find.sitesell.com/UnstoppableDreams.html I would be happy to share tips from my own experience as well. I can even show you some examples of my own. BEST WISHES!
