Vps Hosting Plan
what next after renting a vps?
I have developed a java web application. Since the coding is all done, i have decided to make it live. I was told the best hosting plan was a vps so i have rented one. now what next. How do i install tomcat on it and configure it to accept call on the domain name. I have a webmin panel, but i don't know anything about linux. I have seen the OS is Fedora Core. it looks like it will be interesting adventure but i don't know where to start. can someone point me in some direction??
from some digs, i found putty and installed it. my we host faqs also had instructions on how to install tomcat, so i have don that. and now tomcat is listening on the domain name. I am now looking at how to upload to tomcat webapp directory. how can i do that. also i need to make the default url go to my webapp, not tomcat's home page. I also need to install a seperate jboss that will not be exposed to the outside world. how do i do these?
Web Control Panels are different based on your hosting provider and the kind of VPS software they are using. To do what you are hoping
If you are familiar with Linux, it is very easy to do. But try the below options to see if you can do those from web interface.
Installing Tomcat
Almost all the providers give this package along with apache. If not, see if a tab called applications or packages or add-on packages. From there you can install apache/tomcat if it is allowed. Usually it is like a check-box and you have to apply/save at the bottom
Domain
Most of the web panels tend to have User, Domains, Applications and Stats tabs. See if you can see the domain option. Under that add your domain name. It should be self-explainatory.
Hope this helps. If you still need further assistance, I will be glad to help you. I will be watching the thread. If nothing works, I will drop you my Y! ID and I can help you set it up
Good luck!
