Virtual Windows Server Hosting
windows server 2003 virtual pc question?
i just installed windows server 2003 in virtual pc how can i log off the host operating system and keep virtual pc running?
You can't. Virtual PC does not run as a service, which is what you would need.
You would instead need to run Virtual Server (basically the same thing but designed to run on a server - may work on XP Pro with IIS installed) and that should allow service operation and in turn, systems to remain running even when not logged on.
windows 2003 server in virtual pc?

Read the help file?
Right Alt + Del to send CRTL+ALT+DEL to virtual PC.
ALT + CRTL give you back you mouse for the regular system.
How to configure Vmware server for the host to be visible from the www?
I want to experiment with servers a little and I ran into a problem. The host is Windows XP and the guest is Ubuntu server. I managed to set up openSSH and apache and the site is visible from the host but I cant access it from outside my LAN (I have a router) or inside my LAN (from a different computer of course). How to configure Vmware & XP so I can access my virtual server from the internet?
If I choose bridged connection XP complains something like "there is another IP conflicting with this one"
On your router, port forward the desired port(s) to the IP of the guest machine. If you can see the VM from your LAN (from machines other than the host) that's all that you need to do.
Since you appear to have issues accessing it from the LAN as well, you'll either have to enable routing on the host to permit traffic to the VM or set up networking in bridged mode on VMWare. Since you're using XP for the host, I'd suggest bridged mode so that the VM is on the same subnet as your LAN. That's clearly the easiest way to proceed.
Also make SURE than any Windows or other firewall on the host machine is either disabled or allows traffic on the desired ports from your LAN.
If you opt to do routing on the host machine, be sure to either set up static routes on both the host and your router OR enable a routing protocol such as RIP on the router and the host machine. I'm not sure if that's a viable option with WinXP though it works great on Server 2003. One more reason to go with bridged mode networking on the VMWare host!
Edit: Well, if there's an IP conflict, just give the virtual interface a different IP address. You can choose the subnet used for the VI and it's IP address.
open source virtual meeting software?
well, it's time for me to ask a question this time. i'm looking for a server software that i can use to host a virtual meeting. kind of like the one that they use at gotomymeeting. i am not aware of one so my next step is to ask my peers. if you know of one, please provide me with a link. server software can be used on windows or linux platform (i have both). client software would have to be windows, if possible, although if i have to get my users to try linux, i will, just for conferencing.
thanks in advance.

Can I use a CD-RW with ReadyBoost.?
I am running Server 2003 In Virtual PC. My host PC is running Windows Vista Ultimate. I have 1GB memory installed and 1GB virutal memory, but need more. Is there any way to use a CD-RW with ReadyBoost?
No, a cd-rw requires laser writing on and off all the time therefore, your pc would run slower. YOu need Flash memory, like a jump drive, or an SD card.

To ->A Moose With An Empty Tummy
But My Computer Still Make Sounds its not oil computer that it wont make any sond i want all off and by the way MY computer is XP
There is a thing called away mode on certain versions of XP that will do this. It logs you out, mutes the audio, and turns off the screen. You could just log yourself out, turn your monitor off, then turn off your speakers to get the same effect.
NAT Networking - Upload speed very slow on guest computer with VMWare?
Hello,
I have an urgent issue with my VmWare server last version. I have an Athlon XP Dual Core on 64bits and 4GB of ram. I have Debian 64bit version installed on my server. I have installed latest version of VMWare server and created a new virtual machine to install Windows XP. I have configured the network to be NAT Networking on VMWare. The problem is that the upload speed on the guest computer (Windows XP) is extremely slow... ~100 times slower, it barely touches 180kbps.
If I test the upload speed on host computer (Debian) it is around 20mbps...
The download speed is the same on host/guest - around 70-80mbps so this is not affected... Only the upload speed is the problem.
What should I do? I have already re-installed 3 different versions of Windows XP, even personalized ones.
I am looking forward to resolve this issue.
Regards.
