Virtual Server Hosting

How many servers can a MS Virtual Server host for free?
MS are saying their Virtual Server product is free, but there are reports that state is is only free if you have four or less guests on one Host.

If the Host is Windows Server 2003 Enterprise you can host an addtional 4 Server Guest VM's for free. After that you will have to pay for the additional licenses. For example if you had a Server 2003 Ent Host with 6 Server 2003 Std. and 5 Linux Guests. You'd have to pay for: 1 x Server 2003 Enterprise license 2 x Server 2003 Standard license It doesn't matter if you use Virtual Server or VMWare as the Virtualization software.

Should I use RAID 1 or RAID 5 for my Virtual Machine host server (Microsoft Hyper-V)?
I am building a server that will be used as a virtual machine hosting server, using Microsoft Hyper-V as the virtual server hosting OS. The hardware I am using will be a motherboard with capacity for 6 SATA 10,000 RPM disks. I can set them up using RAID 1 or RAID 5. I cannot use a mix of different RAID options for the disks. I must choose either RAID 1 or RAID 5 for all the disks. Which option would be best for performance? I plan to create 10 virtual machines on the system. I know I would have more total disk capacity using RAID 5 instead of RAID 1 (mirroring), but am wondering if there is a benefit to using RAID 1 for the entire system, in regards to general performance. The virtual machines will be a mix of workstations, database servers, web servers, and other systems. The host OS (MS Hyper-V) uses a very small amount of disk space. The a majority of space will be dedicated the various virtual servers running. There is no need to send me links to websites describing RAID (I know about the various general benefits of the different types of RAID). I am interested in hearing from someone who has implemented a RAID configuration when setting up a virtual hosting server and have some good advice regarding which option offers best performance.

RAID 5 may provide more performance than RAID 1 RAID 1 is mirroring only. RAID 5's striping should outperform RAID 1 However, you may be better off investigating a hardware RAID card than trying to build a software RAID from the motherboard sockets. Your gains from RAIDing may be offset by processor overhead. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if 6 x 7200 RPM drives with high areal density (320 GB platters) and a hardware RAID card outperformed or at least equalled 6 x Velociraptors for a comparable price. See www.storagereview.com for comprehensive comparisons of performance.

Just got a Linux cPanel Virtual Private Server hosting and?
I cannot for the life of me find the file manager or the public folder directory so I can upload html files, images or scripts. All I managed to do so far was change the nameservers, add a hostname, which is some word plus my domain name, again, this is for a Linux cPanel VPS acct., NOT shared. Since it is an unmanaged VPS acct no support is given by Dotster anyone know of a in-depth and easy tutorial, besides this host. I need this really quick. Need an affordable virtual private server?
I need to find a virtual private server to host my website. I will need root access, Linux, Apache and PHP. Real support and a phone number are a must. I can't spend more than $20 per month.

If you could install everything by yourself I recommend Slicehost. You're free to install anything you like. Not only a support, but they have great tutorials that you can follow. http://www.slicehost.com/

configure appache web server in linux9 miltiple site on a single server virtual host tell me the procedure?
i want to add two or more site in apache web server through virtual host pls help me to configure it

There are multiple ways to do this. First, I suggest you read the httpd.conf file. It's easy to read, and unless you have a stripped version, gives examples. Otherwise, go to www.apache.org

Which VPS (Virtual Private Server) host should I use?
I have a few web stores and one of them has gotten too big for shared hosting. I think I want a VPS host that uses linux, apache, and cpanel. Any sugestions?

What web host do you use? I don't think it is needed to transfer yuor stores to a VPS server. However, as an experienced webmaster I recommend Inmotion Web Host which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. (I run 2 business websites with them) Their shared service offer 1500 up to 4500 GIGs for disc space, and 15000 up to 45000 GIGs for Bandwidth. They also offer one of the most reliable Virtual Private Servers on the web. You can take a look at their features at: http:// top3hosts.atspace .com/in.htm (join the parts together when inputting in your address bar!) ******IMPORTANT******* * This service was awarded as the best Business Web Host 2008. * They offer both shared and VPS services. ************************* Good Luck!

Virtual server 2005 can not ping from clients on the network outside of the host machine?
I am running windows 2003 r2 with virtual server 2005. I have one network on the virtual machine attached to the pyshcial network adapter on the host. The host can ping the VM the VM can ping the host, but clients on the network cant not ping the VM. Any ideas? Thanks.

Ping sends echo request packets that are generated and detected in ICMP which is in layer 3. It all depends on how you have set up the networking for the VM. If you are using shared networking, then the VM will appear to be hidden behind NAT and so although you can ping it from the host machine you cannot ping it from any other machine. If you read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833134 this may be of help to you in configuring your VM.

Where can I find a real-time website counter that I can host on my Virtual Private Server?
I found a site in 2007 that gave me a script for a proxy and now I need something that can work for a counter.

I use to use StatCounter for my poetry site and it work okay but they updated their scripts, you would have to download the newer one to have those features.

Is there a service that allows me to host a "virtual" pc at a hosted server that will allow me to load
software on it and run the software from any location I might be at?

You could mean a few things with that question, but the answer to all of them are "yes". Virtual hosting is pretty big right now...you can get a windows VPS (virtual private server) and load anything you want, with full control remotely...using RDP, PCA, whatever your poison is.

Who Are The Top Webhosting Companies that Allow .HTACCESS Files to be Uploaded to Virtual Server Directories?
I need to upload .HTACCESS file to a designated folder but Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting does not allow this. Please tell me of a few "Top Tier" web hosting companies that allow this. Please no "fly by night" or "offshore" web hosts that will be out of business tomorrow, thanks.

I know GoDaddy will allow it.
