Unlimited Domain Hosting

If a hosting site says that it will 'host unlimited domains', will it still cost to register the domain?
I'm looking through the different hosting sites and a whole bunch of them say that they will host "unlimited domains", yet also state that they will give me a free domain. So by hosting unlimited domains, (examples: bluehost, godaddy), does that mean I can make as many sites as I want? Like www.mysite.com and www.acompletelydifferentsite.com ? Or can I only HOST the entire site, but the domains must be paid for separately? Sorry if that's a little bit confusing.

Yes, hosting is different than registering. You can have your domain hosted somewhere other than the same company that you register with. So, hosting unlimited domains is not uncommon, which just means that the DNS entries for those domains point to your web host service. But, you still need to pay to register each domain, which also has an annual fee.

Adding hosting to a domain?
So, I have a site that is on free hosting. The free hosting = ew. My friend allowed me to use his hosting. awardspace. It can host unlimited domains. Now, I know I have to put his hosting code er something in my domain's .. something {I know how, just can't explain C:} But... would my files mix with his files? How do I transfer my files? Do I have to make a backup? Please explain this to me, I've never switched hosts and I don't want to loose all my files.

Im not sure, but BACKUP YOUR FILES!!!!! You should backup your files about every week anyway.

I would like to host unlimited domains on one web hosting account! So Far I have used hostgator ( http://www.hostamillion.com ) at $9.95 or £5 a month which has been incredible ... are there any others as good as this?

If you are serious about websites either for personal or your business, don't go to free web hosting as they are usually not reliable and you may end up losing all your hard work. I'm wondering if this site would even need the option of unlimited domains hosted...?
It's an online t-shirt shop. I'm searching through possible hosts. With Host Gator, there's a plan that hosts just one domain and a plan that hosts unlimited domains. Would a company like this need more than one domain? I'm thinking no.... Please let me know if there is something I'm not considering... Thank you!

Acutally, when most WSPs talk about hosting unlimited domains -- and this is true of Host Gator -- they usually don't mean subdomains (e.g., orders.mysite.com, secure.mysite.com), as previously suggested. What they mean is, if your store is at tshirtshop.com, you couldn't also host more than just that one Web site; you couldn't, for example, host picklebarrel.com or volleyballcourt.com on the same account. If you have the unlimited domains account, you can host picklebarrel.com, volleyballcourt.com, however many different Web sites you want.

How can I find a good Hosting ??????

I use www.netnametag.com. There isn't an unlimited plan. But buying a large bandwidth and large space (it doesn't take much space) are about the same as unlimited. Very good customer support.

What's a good web hosting service (I also want to buy a domain through the same people)?
I really want to use Yahoo's own Small Business Web Hosting and Domain, but I've heard a bunch of horror stories about it. I mean, I know that every web hosting company has a lot of BS said about them, because SOMEBODY has to have a bad experience with a company - its just the nature of things. What is a resolvable domain?
I was inquiring with my web hosting company. The plan I signed up for says I can host unlimited domains with this one account. The rep said yes "it will be a resolvable domain.", when I asked about adding other sites. What does this mean exactly?

A name - any combniation of letters+digits+"-", that points to a particular machine (IP) address. This information is held in DNS servers/computers. So if say, you type in yahoo.com, your computer looks up yahoo.com's machine address (IP addess) on those DNS servers, and knows where the content - webpages/pictures etc. are stored. Sometimes a domain name is not configured correctly and is not set to point to any particular IP. That's an unresolvable domain. In contrast, any domain going to an IP is resolvable. p.s. It's a lot more complicated than that, but I don't think one needs to go into such detail :) p.s.2. In your particular case, I would guess you can point an unlimited number of domains to your hosting space / to your server's IP address. Each domain would go into a separate directory. Basically you would have a number of websites on the same hosting 'puter / at the same price. p.s. 3: The rep should have been more forthcoming to explain all that : ))
