how do i transfer hosting of my website to a different company?
I am a little ignorant on these matters. I have a website with a zencart. I own the domain name. I want to transfer the hosting of my website from company X to comany Y. What do I need to do? My current host has given me the address to access ftp files, but not sure what to do with them...I'm kind of lost...any help or explanations would be appreciated.

Contact your target hosting company technical support department for help with hosting the domain for you. Then copy all your web content from the old provider to your local computer. Use an ftp tool like WS-FTP Home for this. Once you have captured your content, copy it to the new provider using ftp, and you should be in business. Keep your local copy of the content as a backup - ISP's sometimes lose stuff, and then find out their restore routines don't work !

How can I transfer my files from one hosting to another hosting account ?
I have a hosting account whith about 120MB file. NOw I want to transfer my files to my new hosting but without uploading them , again . I use dial-up connection and it is terrible to upload them again . Thanks,

Find out the size of your pages. To do this, open your site in a browser and save it to your hard disk along with images. Now see the total size of the files saved. Divide 20 GB by this size and you will get an approximate no of hits 20 GB can handle. But thats not all. Often your site will be crawled by search engine spiders and download various amount of data to index. You will lose some amount of bandwidth due to this. GoDaddy - bought new hosting, how do I transfer domain?
I just upgraded my GoDaddy hosting from the free one to the minimal paid one. How do I transfer my domain to this account? Can I do this alone or do I need to contact GoDaddy? If you purchased your domain with another host, you need to be able to access the DNS settings. Forward the nameservers to: ns1.godaddy.com ns2.godaddy.com If the host you purchased your domain from won't let you access your DNS settings, you will need to have GoDaddy do a transfer for you. There is a small fee to do this. If you meant the whole site in general... meaning files: In that case, you need to have FTP Access to your free-hosting files. Is 1and1 hosting really not allow you to transfer namesevers to other web hosting company?
They seem doing this right now.

Legally they have to allow that, ask for a manager or tell them that you will bring this to the attention of ICANN. Please give us an update as they have to release it. Just have it moved to an account under your control at enom.com or godaddy.com

Hi, the only methods of payment accepted by PowWeb are: credit card, check, or PayPal. You can click the livechat of the PowWeb and talk to them and they'll tell you the same. Wire transfer like Western Union is used by most scammers. Beware.

How do I transfer a website that is being hosted by host company ABC to host company XYZ? I would like to maintain the same domain name after I transfer. I have copied my website onto disk. How can I maintain the links that are on the main page to the other pages of my web site? Do I have to use a web developer software such as Dreamweaver to re-develop the main page and to create the links in Dreamweaver? Is there another way of accomplishing the same objective. Thanks

your new host should be able to initiate the domain transfer/ if your previous account is not locked or in dispute .. it usually takes about three to 6 days and another 48 hours for the domain to propagate from its new dns servers - then upload your site form through the admin panel or ftp and it should be active.. Any links in your html should be intact as long as you upload an exact copy, including directory structure, of the site. A good idea is to keep another copy on your computer to use for editing. You can use a plain text editor like notepad to make any changes and re-upload the individual files.. Note: if its a linux/unix based hosting service all of your links and filenames should be in lower case.
