Team Fortress 2 Server Requirements?
What are the hardware requirements for running a dedicated Team Fortress 2 server under Linux? Specifically I am interested in how many megabytes of RAM I should expect to use per player and (since MHz is pretty much irrelevant now) I guess "how many players you can get on various models of Athlon 64 X2 without lag" unless there is a more elegant way of expressing it.

I ran a server off my computer and was playing at the same time and it seemed to work really good until about 10 people joined then some people would lag, but some wouldn't. I have 2 gigs of RAM on my system, not sure whether the RAM was the problem or not, but it did cross my mind. I'm grabbing 2 more gigs of RAM soon so I'll try it again then. My guess is 2 gigs is fine if the computer is a dedicated server.

Team Fortress 2 Server Trouble?
I'm trying to make a Team Fortress 2 server so just me and my friends can play, but whenever I make a server, any kind of server, it only shows up for LAN. So when I invite my friends to my game, or when they try to join, it says the server is unavailible. Anyone know a way to resolve this?

i have no clue. sorry. i keep having a problem where most servers say unavailable and i cant play at all.

Can you run a Team Fortress 2 local server?
a) Is it possible to run a Team Fortress 2 game on a LAN without internet connection? else b) Is it possible to run a Team Fortress 2 game at a LAN, using only 1 copy of the game or is every playing client required to buy a copy?

yes there is a LAN mode each player needs to have access to the game via steam (even offline mode)

What is the maximum number of players in a Team Fortress 2 server (PC)?
Well, im really into FPS games and i have both a really amazing PC that can run Half-life 2 on the highest graphics without a problem and a Xbox 360. So, the Half-life 2: Orange box was released a month ago and well i have heard that it's like...the best game of all time. So...Besides that i had a problem with which console i should get it for and thought i should get it for PC, cause my 360 doesnt have XBOX live. So i'm planning on getting the orange box for PC and now im just curious to know...How many people is aloud in a server? (MAX.) Cause i've heard the 360 is 16 people, but PC is 24. So im just making sure, What is the maximum number of players in a Team Fortress 2? Thank You!

Yeah The orange box is a great compilation of valve's games. i hav it and it rocks especially TF2. Portal is great too!I also love the half life series.:D .now for the answer=the max for pc is 32 players which is the double max for the x360.More players=More fun and ownage.. hehe

Team Fortress 2 Server Problem?
My roommate and I have this game but cannot play on the same server. If one is on and the other tries to join, the first is booted. We share a router and internet connection. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Well, two machines talking to ONE server needing to use the exact same ports off of ONE PUBLIC IP will get one booted! The server has no idea which computer to reply to! Your router has only ONE public IP and that is what the server sends back to, the router then directs it to the forwarded ports. You can not port forward the same exact ports to two different computers within the router, it won't work. You need to be able to assign different ports for each machine. I don't know if Team Fortress allows that, if it does, set one machine to use one set of ports, the other to use different ports your problem is solved. If it doesn't allow you to set ports then you can't use both at the same time.

How can I raise my population? It's always soooo hard to get people to join, are there any places that advertise or something?

Put your IP here and I'll join :) Problem is properly that the PING is too slow. Servers only make sense if you: - run them dedicated - use Linux (faster) instead of Windows - At least have Cable, normal DSL won't cut the cake - Have min 3GB and 2core 2.5GHz Anything else.... Also you may want to join some forums (see links) there you can advertise your IP.

my dedicated server is always on lan even though i put it as internet... how the hell do i fix this...

Under your server.cfg file text-modify the entry sv_lan "0". 0 is internet, 1 is LAN.

How can I host a Team Fortress 2 server on my own computer?
I don't need to join it on that computer, as it is a spare (but still a good comp) I need a walkthrough on how to host a Team Fortress 2 server so that my friends and I as well as other random people can join it. Any tips for maintaining the server, being an admin, and making other people admins will be appreciated as well.

There's a create server button on the main menu, but I'm pretty sure there's more to it then that. I've never really done it myself. Try this link: http://dev-solution.org/resources/videos/ServerTut/index.html its for creating a server on Garry's Mod, but it should probably work because the games run on the same engine. The site has several other admin tips and tricks for getting a server. please give me your username if you don't mind, always fun to play a decent server with good people =).
