How can I turn my 1TB PC into a webserver to start a website?
I have some friends that want to hear my music. How do I turn a pc hard drive into a web server? Any good reading material out there?

You don't need an .exe. Just use a batch file. A batch file is just a text file containing multiple command-line commands. It has the extension ".bat". It, for example, could contain the following 2 commands, to start XAMPP and open a webpage: start xampp.exe start http://www.google.com

It means the IIS is either not running, or if its running its not on port 80. Check if IIS has been started in Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services Then go to IIS and click on properties to see if the default port is 80.

In the java world u can find Jboss Application server (like webserver - better than a webserver) which is free... you will find LifeRay (portal development) that is also free. Need to start server...ASP .Net . When I type in inetMgr at command prompt, nothing happens....?
I need to start my webserver. I know that the IIS is installed, because I myself installed it 10 days ago. But when I go to Start -> Run, and type in inetMgr, nothing happens. Also, I remember having to start the server as soon as I installed the server, and started my first project. How often do we need to restart the server? Is it everytime we start our computer? Or maybe everytime we start Visual Studio .Net? Does the server get stopped periodically?

IIS starts automatically when the server starts, unless you've changed the service to "manual". Right-click on My Computer and click "Manage" from there, look at your services. You should see the World Wide Web publishing service, and it should be set to automatic. Can you get to the IIS MMC snap-in from Start--> Programs --> Administrative tools?

I would think of webspace as land in real life. You must first purchase or rent the land. Then register an address or a domain name. But also they add on extras such as email accounts virus protection or the ability to build your website properly using many different programs or materials. You have to start and restart all of the service running. Go from the bottom up from the services list. You can use the command prompt to start and restart the services.

Is there an application for ubuntu gnome to run your own server?
I have ubuntu gnome, the desktop verson and i want to start up my own webserver with this edition and still be able to use it while the server is running, is ther any applications that allow me to do this?

sudo apt-get install apache2 or install it via synaptic. There are also others like lighttpd.
