Sports Website
Sports website?
Hello all. I have a sports website for my fantasy football team up. Just something I put up for fun to show friends. Anyway, a friend of mine noticed that on one page I have the theme music from one of the programs like CBS football as the background music.
He mentioned that I would need to get permission from them. So my question is do I really need to do that for a site that is not in any way for profit and basically less than 30 people at the most know of it's existence and probably ever will? If so could they sue me for having it up in the first place? If I am allowed to have it up then at what point or how "big" would the web presence have to be for me to ask permission to use themes etc?
Technically you're probably violating the copyright, but since so few people will see the site, and you're not profiting from it, I doublt you'll ever get in trouble. IF someone at CBS did see it and did decide to care, they'd probably just ask you to take the music off the site, and that would be the end of it.
What are the legal ramifications for using sports logos on a commercial website?
If I wanted to make a free sports website with ads. Do I have to get the same license as if I were selling clothing?
In order to put copyrighted images on your website, you are going to need written consent from the team whos logo you would like to use. Just go to the official website of the sports team you are interested in and send them an email requesting the use of their logo on your website. Make sure to provide the url and where you would like to put the logo.
If you agreed to link back to the sports team's website, you may get lucky and they will agree to let you use the image.
Just don't use the image without requesting permission. This is considered copyright infringement and they will persue legal action.
Are you interested in helping me start a sports website?
I'm planning to start a sports website with an independent style. I'm trying to find out if anybody is interested in helping me start this website.

Do I have to have permission from major league sports to run my own online fantasy sports website?
Do I have to have permission from anyone in particular to operate an online fantasy sports website?? What kind of programming or software would be required to run such a thing? If I were to seek out people that have the technical training to build something like this for me who would I be looking for? Thank you!!
No, but you need permission to use MLB images and content.
You'd need a programmer and a designer to help you out, or, like myself, someone that can do both programming and design. You're best off using a Content management System (CMS) for your site, you're probably going to want a forum, a chat room, and a slew of other stuff to make the site robust and interactive for your member base.
What would be a good name for my new sports website?
any ideas could help for my new sports website i'm about to design.
Name it something that people will be searching on. If people were to find you for "Kids sports", name it USAKidsSports.com It will help search engines place you.
