Small Business Web Site Hosting
With Yahoo Small Business, can I upload my own website, or do I have to use their easy site builder?
I want to buy into Yahoo!'s Small Business Web Hosting service, but I don't know if I can use my own web site templates (HTML). I really want my site to be original, tending to what I like, and I don't want it to follow some pre made template from Yahoo!. Thanks!
As far as I remember you can upload your own website created on your desk top. They give you the builder to make it easy for people who don't have the programs or knowledge to make their own.
Should I use web design software or web host's design tools to create my new small business web site?
Easy to use software please, all recommendations appreciated.
Software preferably downloadable freeware or shareware & not too expensive.
That depends on your design experience and capabilities. If you are familiar with HTML or you have experience using design software then the obvious choice is to use an html editing software.
HTML editors I recommend:
-Adobe Dreamweaver 8 - Best professional web editor however it is expensive
-CoffeeCup 2006 for Windows - Best web-design software for non-pros
-Nvu 1.0 - Free web-design software
If you are building a blog you can use something like WordPress which is a free blog system with built in templates.
You will also need a graphic design software, the two best are Adobe Fireworks or Adobe Photoshop however Fireworks is built to work directly with Dreamweaver.
I would always recommend using a design software over web hosting design tools however the choice is up to you and your comfort level plus willingness to learn how to use the software.

what's the best free web hosting site if i'm starting a own small business?
i'm starting my own small business and looking to set up a website. i see a lot of free web hostings but can't tell the good from the bad. i need one where i can upload dreamweaver cs 3 through FTP. any suggestions?
If you're using Dreamweaver I take it you plan on designing your own site. Any hosting company will have FTP access and they should say so on their listed plans. If you are serious about your business (i.e. have a viable business plan) then I suggest getting a professional to do your site, unless you're a graphic designer/developer by trade. For a simple site you can get a freelancer to develop it for you at a very low cost. I can hook you up with the designer who does all my client websites for my company - probably about $250 if it's a brochure-type site. Just email me if you're interested, otherwise I suggest rentacoder.com or guru.com
Opinion about "Yahoo Web Hosting" for small business.?
I'm looking for a web hosting site for a small business, I see Yahoo offers a service. Anyone here have experience with it? If so, please tell me if It is a good option or If I should look elsewhere. Any info on other options appreciated. Thanks.
First let me say I am a professional web designer and you do NOT want to host on Yahoo. it is in my opinion second worst hosting company that I know of.
Go to http://www.samwilson3d.com , there is a list of hosts (right side menu) they all have cpanel and something called "fantastico" the least expensive of these plans is around $50 per YEAR
Godaddy has given me problems of every kind including MySQL and FTP problems and they are just a pain in the butt
Now depending on what kind of site you want, I recommend Coppermine Photo Gallery or Joomla or Zen cart which is a 1 click install using Fantastico, you can make this look however you want bu only using Photoshop and CSS. I would start with a premade template designed for Coppermine and then make adjustments from there to make the site the way you want it.(the template can just be a starting point or you can not use one at all)
Joomla can also be installed with one click using Fantastico and that may also be the way to go.
-there are about 20 different 1-click install solutions that you can install and customize with Fantastico
Can anyone point me to the best web hosting site for a small Uk Florist business?
I have a small florist in the UK. To compete and having lost passing trade. I realize that I have to move onto the web. I am a complete novice. I have read about paying for hits, not getting hits in the search engines and also some people not using some search engines. Is it possible that some one can tell me where to start. I am not bad with HTML. Also I understand that some of these D.I.Y Packages are so closely connected with there codex that it just causes queueg problems. Is there a simple straight forward soloution for a start off with a site to read up on and that also accept credit cards for high response and little captital out lay. Cheaky Yea. But some one must have some ideas. As Usual. Thanks to all those who have helped in the past.
i think.. mystic-studio is good and cheap... but they dissapeared now... try Bravehost.com

Best Web Hosting for Small Business and Multiple Domains?
Hello,
I know this has been asked before, but I've searched many web sites and reviews and I'm still confused. So, I've narrowed it down to Hostmonster, Bluehost, and Lunarpages. I'm a pretty technical guy, but I'm looking for a reliable web host for multiple domains that some will use databases. I'm not so concerned about a "simple" web site creator, as opposed to one that follows the HTML & CSS standards. I was going to go with 1&1 after seeing their huge ads in PC Magazine until I read the reviews. Thus, I'm not so concerned about cheap, just a service that is reliable, professional, and popular. In other words, what service would a developer recommend and use?
Thanks,
Brett
This is what concerns me: http://www2.jeffcroft.com/blog/2006/feb/27/11-internet-is-the-devil/.
And then I just happened to stumble across DreamHost: http://www.dreamhost.com/aboutus.html. They are employee-owned, which in and of itself impresses me about a company. Any customer reviews on this company?
I may not be as picky (mean that in a good way!) as you are because I definitely don't consider myself a "professional" compared to friends who have web design businesses, but we've been really happy with Host Excellence. ( http://www.hostexcellence.com/templates/he/v1/affiliate/clickthru.cgi?id=JTcaneel )
There are a ton of paid web hosts out there, and my husband and I exhausted ourselves researching them before making a decision to go with HostExcellence for this site and another one we run. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that we were getting tired and we liked HostExcellence's plans for mulitple domains and the fact that they had a site builder with tons of customizable templates (many of them do, but some of the good ones on the review lists don't). My husband doesn't use the site builder for his -- he does his own code. I use the site builder until I'm more proficient on Nvu. We also liked the amount of storage and bandwidth we were given, among other things. I haven't had a complaint yet, and we've been customers since October 2005. They have excellent 24/7 live chat support that helps me all the time with just about any issue you can imagine. Whenever a service has been down (which has only been a few times), it's either back up before I have a chance to ask about it or it's resolved before I get off live chat with them. They have a ton of tools at your service, we have more e-mails available than we'll ever use, and more bandwidth and storage space than we've come close to dipping into. They have ftp storage and a really easy thing called webshell that makes it pretty simple to do ftp stuff. Php boards, databases, etc. are all available. Good luck!
This one is for small business owners. Not web design firms please. How much would you pay for a web site?
How much would you be willing to pay for a website that is more than just basic. I know you can set up a free website or design your own and host it for about 10 bucks a month. But are there small business owners who would like to have a professional website (that can handle a shopping cart and credit cards, provide search functionality, let users register on the site, etc.) but are put off since it is more complicated than what they can do on Front Page and more expensive than what they can afford to have a web design company do?
Hard to say, because I would love to know this as well.
I could not afford $1,200 for just the design, but there are aspects that I would like.
I would like it if a company could augment what I already have and charge per item. To explain a little better, I can do the backgrounds, the titles, the links, the content, I can even provide pictures, but I would want someone who could help do more with the pictures than just rollovers.
For this, I might pay $50 to $75 - There is no design work and it is a one time fee, unless I change the pictures.
For a complete package like you are talking about - with shopping cart, I guess, a 20+ page site around $50 a page.
I personally, still could not afford it with how small my business is. It would take me moving to the next level with an actual location and a small business loan to think about it.
What you talk about is great and I am interested - visit www.inspiredtouches.com, but like I said - my payout would be limited right now.
Who hosts my Small Business web sites?
I have a contract with YahooSmallBusiness, who “supposedly” host my websites, or do they?, or don’t they?. “Don’t think they do” I pay Yahoo in US $ every month and they have a 3rd party who hosts my sites. Who are they? Its not Yahoo7, who are they? Who hosts my web sites? Now I’ve never had a problem with Yahoo USA. Yahoo7, who I actually got to talk to on the phone. That in its self is a metrical, they told me, they don’t host my sites. Who does?. Ever since Yahoo Sitebuilder freezes my computer over 3month ago, my websites have changed by themselves. I haven’t been able to install sitebuilder again because it freezes my computer tried about 8 times and can’t get answers. I can’t update or work on my site. Did Yahoo also give the 3rd party the SiteBuilder software? Because its no freeking working?
I would recommend that you start over with a more reputable web host that will help you to manage you business easier. They have an Alexa ranking of 847, so they know how to do it right.
Take a look at http://www.customized-by-you.com
They offer an all-in-one program that will cover all the things that you need in a website and provide the tools to get it done. This will help you to manage your business better and start making money. I hope this helps. Feel free to send me a message with any questions you may have.
BEST WISHES!
Can't access web site hosted by Yahoo Small Business, Can I Sue them?
I have been calling both verizon and yahoo for nearly 2 weeks, with no results. A yahoo tech told me the problem was verizon needs to unmerge my site from verizon. Verizon won't assist me at all, they just hang up on me. Yahoo keeps sending me the same answer which requires me to log on that does not work. I am up to date on bill payments etc. but Yahoo web hosting will not help me. Just wondering if I have a case to sue them. I am paying for a service that I am not being allowed to access? I really do need to make some changes to the site but my site builder will no longer sign on correctly. The Verizon transfer program does not function at all. I have spoke to a dozen different techs and keep getting the run around. What should I do to get some real results?
It sounds like Verizon is your problem. I have a Yahoo Small Business account, and I've never had a problem with it.
