What is the best software to build a simple website?

What is the best program to use, to make a simple website?
Does Microsoft Publisher work well? Like I said, it's just a simple website for a Bed & Breakfast, no fancy graphics or anything, possibly only 3 or 4 pages. I'm not looking to spend a lot of money or anything either, to purchase a program.

I do not think that publisher makes a very good website. Alot of little things can go wrong with images, updates, etc. I recommend starting with something provided by your webhost provider that takes care of all the technical stuff for you. Most places like godaddy and the myriad of others provide instant website solutions where you pick a style, add your text, your images, and click publish and your are done. If you do your homework you can get all that done for a few $ instead of 50 or 60 or over 100. (just remember, sometimes in life you do get what you pay for). Have fun.

Simple website devlopment for personal use?
I have a domain and host, and I want to have a website where I can log in and modify it online. Simple modification where I can add or remove info, and if possible upload items. This is for personal use, not for business or public sector. Please can you advise me on what service or software I should use.

Wordpress is definitely the easiest. You can install it from the control panel on most hosts. It is usually in the scripts section often called Fantastico. If you can type which you obviously can, you can produce very professional looking sites. Wordpress itself does all the indexing and sorting so you don't have to bother about site navigation. You can get a free web site at Yahoo Geo Cities and several other providers. They provide tools to create a basic site -- limited capability for business use. All free site place their ads on your page. Several providers provide full capability at costs of $3-20/month. I used Blue Host at $6.95. W3 schools provide free tutorials on how to develop web pages. You will need an html editor to easily create pages. I use Coffee Cup. Evrsoft First Page has a free version. Serious programmers would probably use Dream Weaver or Microsoft Front Page. Suggestion: Use Geo Cities to experiment. Then you should understand what it is to build a site and be able to make decisions on what to do.
