Shared Website Hosting
What would be the best solution for a small social sharing website reference in to hosting.?
Starting a small social, sharing videos site. I have no idea how much storage space and servers i would need at the beginning. My goal is to not have the site crash, however i don't have enough money to get hosting were the big boys are , youtube, yahoo etc. So what options do i have?
Thank you,
Host yourself, silly.
First, get yourself an IBM server, a DNS Server, a TLD or a set of subdomains on several domain names, then you get Gigabit internet, it costs alot.
That's why your supposed to have a business first and then use those kinds of websites and web applications to promote your business, lets take Virgin Media and Virgin in the UK (where I am) for example: http://www.virginmedia.com/
I know it is cool to own a website, but you need to work yourself up first.
We don't like you crying to us, you know. Get some money and ask a specialist like me to get you fixed up (not me, I'm fully booked with MicroSoft UK).
No, I thank you for participating.
Professional Photography website hosting for profit share?
I need a Web site that will host photos so customers can come and order them and the web site prints them, carges and ships them to the customer. Customizable price lists and such. FOR FREE is the key word
I don't think there is a free one, but since you'll have customers ordering off the website and making prints and shipping, I think it's a worthy investment to pay.
I love using www.pictage.com
It really is great. They also create a link so you can add it to your website so customers can orderyour photos that way.
access website hosted inside shared network?
Ok, this is what i am attempting to do i have a rpimary machine which i have setup to share internet with another pc via dual ethernet. the pc using the shared connection i want to host a small website on, heres the issue how would i asscess this website outside my network, how would i cant just type my ip cause it bring up the computer sharing the network no the one using the shared network any one kind enough to assist me
After a little work to my network i figured out where the options were to foward the port to the other machine
Well all I can give you is the theory answer. Port forwarding...
You primary machine would have to accept traffic on port 80. Your host machine would have to have a webserver on configured to respond to whatever port you want, (could also be port 80)
you would have to configure your primary machine to forward traffic received on port 80 to other computer hosting the website on whatever port it is listening on.
i need a web hosting website?
i have made a site like you tube a video sharing website but i need a hosting site that will alow me to have alot of people view/be on my site at once... if this is not possible i need another way that would be. thank u
You might need a dedicated server. I would suggest contacting the people at http://www.hostamina.com about this - they can offer you a custom plan to suit your needs - just send them an email.

Could you suggest me a free photo hosting website?
Hello!!
I'm looking for a website that can host my photos for free and, most important, where I can choose people who I want to share instead of share my photos with anyone.
Sorry for poor english, I'm still learning it.
I visited all website you suggested me and I found Snapfish.com the best of all.
Unfortunately YahooAnswer doesn't allow me to choose the best answer, maybe becouse I'm registered in the italian web site...

Could you help me with buying a domain, hosting the website, and using Microsoft Publisher?
I have purchased a domain at godaddy.com. It comes with free shared hosting. Will there be advertisements on the site? If so, how can I host it so there won't be any?
Is buying a domain enough? Or do I need to host it somewhere? What does hosting mean?
In Microsoft Publisher I have developed my website with video and text. On each page I have changed the "Web Page Options" so it has the description and keywords to help people find the site through search engines. Then I have saved it under "Publish to the Web..." and I assume I will later upload that to the hosting server? I am not sure how I load the site to the web, how the hosting works, etc.
I need your help understand the role hosting plays, how that works, and its relationship with advertising. I want no ads on the site. Any further comments on what to do in Microsoft Publisher are appreciated.
Thanks!
In response to cailano it's an htm file.
And as for the video in Publisher, I first loaded the wmv file to YouTube and pasted the embed code in a box called "HTML Code Fragment" in Publisher.
"hosting" is someone providing dedicated server space to your website. For a professional site, you should look into paying someone. Generally this is around $5 per month, but the host usually changes several months or a year up front. A good host is www.startlogic.com
Your host will usually provide a few extras, too. Such as a built in FTP service, lots of email addresses, that sort of thing.
For something built in publisher, you probably don't need anything fancy at all. There are supposedly some servers you can post to that are free and don't have advertising, but I don't know from personal experience. I never wanted to worry about it, so I just cough up my $60 / year and have a site. Paid hosts never place advertising on your site.
As for Publisher, it sounds like you're on the right track. You want to publish all your files and directories to your host server. Most hosting companies will walk you through the process when you're ready.
Check those published files. Do they all have an extension of .html or .htm? Is there a separate folder with your images in it?
Publisher does video? Sweet!
How do I set up a video hosting website?
I want to set up a site for users to upload videos and share them. I want it to be an independent site and not a blog or group connected to Lycos or yahoo for example. Something like youtube on a majorly smaller scale. Any ideas or advice on how I go about this?
Bear in mind that I am completely new to this stuff!!
You can find something at google.com about website to upload video.
About hosting, I recommend http://www.111hosting.com
