Shared Web Hosting

What is Shared Web Hosting exactly?
I'm going to get a hosting with high bandwidth and I see many shared web hostings with high (500 GB) bandwidth but I''ve no idea what exactly they are and if they are reliable. Please help me choose a right hosting. I've been looking for a web hosting and found these two interesting: www.1and1.com and www.webhost4life.com So please let me know about your experience and information in this case... Thanks, MOhammad.

Shared hosting is Web hosting in which the service provider serves pages for multiple Web sites, each having its own Internet domain name, from a single Web server. Most Web hosting companies provide shared hosting. Although shared hosting is a less expensive way for businesses to create a Web presence, it is usually not sufficient for Web sites with high traffic. These sites need a dedicated Web server, either provided by a Web hosting service or maintained in-house.

I want to purchase a good shared web hosting package. I am from India. Please help me.?
I was using web hosting package from Manashosting. I must say that the worst hosting service is Manashosting. So, I want to purchase a good web hosting package in India. Please give me the list of all the web hosting service providers IN INDIA.

If you're from India I recommend http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European hosting companies, and they currently have a promotion in India. They are offering free hosting and a domain (I think you have to pay about €10 setup fee and that's it). Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor (so you can build a website without knowledge of HTML), Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. Check them out. P.S. They are running this promotion in UK, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and India so if you're from one of these countries you can get really cheap web hosting.

Are there any shared web hosting sites that don't have a CPU usage limit?
Basically making it Digg-Proof

Why would a hosting company do such a thing? So malicious users can eat up all CPU cycles and cost them money?

is grid hosting faster then shared web hosting?

No. http://www.matthewbirks.com/2008/06/media-temple-slower-than-dreamhost-officially/ If you need something better than shared hosting but for about $20/month I recommend http://www.slicehost.com It's a VPS host (Media Temple offers (dv) but starting from $50/month). Or you could get some cheap shared hosting, which allows multiple domain hosting, and just move your higher traffic sites to a VPS host later. I recommend one of these: http://www.hosttell.com/ Powweb is on a 50% sale - $3.88/month ($46.56/year), and you get a free domain from them. Godaddy doesn't offer a free domain, but you can get one for $2.19 if you're buying hosting from them, plus they also have a 20% sale at the moment. P.S. If you want to get Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html you can use the promo code PLUS to get the $50 discount +2 Free domain names. Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

Domain Names and Shared Web Hosting?
I'm fairly new with choosing web hosts on the web and as a web designer, I'm having various clients in different hosting services, some better or worse than others but they become difficult for me to handle. I was thinking about using 1 account on a clustered/grid servers to manage all websites at once, but I'm unsure of how I'll be able to sort out the domain names or if I'll only be able to use one. If I'm only able to ensue 1 domain name, can you please refer me to a host/service that could help me? P.S. The hosts I was looking at were myriadnetwork and mediatemple.

I deal with many websites and domain names and I understand what you're experiencing. I found it best to encourage your clients to migrate to those hosting companies you feel comfortable working at. There's advantages to this, mostly profit. Many of my clients might have existing hosting and registrars, but I push my sales pitch to get them to transfer to my registrar and hosting plans, where I'm a reseller of other great services. I can honestly say over 90% of my clients make the transfer thus a few extra dollars in my pocket. I'm not entirely sure what you want to manage. If you mean the updating and managing of the website itself, you might want to go with Joomla or Drupal as you can have some excellent looking sites and easily manage content updating. If you mean managing servers, DNS, domains and hosting and billing services, you might want to become a reseller of Go Daddy's 'Wild West' program and then find a good hosting site that offers reselling. Good Luck!

Is HostRocket a good shared web hosting service?
www.HostRocket.com. What do you think about this service? Is this really a good service to story my website that has many videos and needs unlimited bandwidth?

It looks like a perfectly reasonable service, and a very good price. I would CAREFULLY read their TOS (Terms of service) and make sure that what you want to put on your site does not violate their terms. If your content does not violate there terms, go for it.

Shared web hosting or Dedicated?
I run four sites (soon one more) and I'm paying around $50 a year to host each of them. I notice that the speeds aren't crash hot, but neither is the price I'm paying for them. The speed isn't an issue but for one site, though the new site I'm starting will need decent speeds to keep up. Storage on both services is plenty, so speed is my only concern. Is dedicated hosting (ie, one box that hosts all my sites) worth the $180 p/m cost, or are there cheaper alternatives for comparable speeds? I don't want to commit to something that expensive without knowing if I'm going overboard. Alternatives (or recommended dedicated hosts) welcome :)

Speeds can really depend on a lot of things. The host and the connection they have, the amount of users hosted on each shared server, and scripts on your site. How large are your sites? If you're not averaging at least10,000-20,000 unique visits a day a dedicated box is probably not worth it. Maybe a better host is what you seek. What I would do is find a host with a lot of storage, bandwidth, and unlimited domain hosting which you can use the same account to host as many domains as you want. That way you only pay for 1 host a year and not 4. A good deal I found was here http://www.stalebrew.com/2008/webhosts/webhostingpadcom/ for webhosting pad. They have 17,000gb of transfer and 1,700gb of storage per month with the features you need to host additional domains at no cost. Also there is a coupon code at that link that gets you 1 year of hosting plus free domain and no setup fee for 46$. Im thinking about making the switch soon.

Can u suggest a good web hosting site?
I wanna know a good shared web hosting company where it should have the option of hosting multiple domains from a single account. i request you to please do not answer this by looking at a couple of sites reviewing web hosting. as far as i know they are not true. so it would be better if u have personal experience or just let me know ur suggestion. Thanks in advance. IT SHOUL HAVE THIS FEATURES 1.good web space 2.good bandwidth 3.able to host multiple domains per single account 4.servers should be fast reliable

Yes, In fact I can recommend three, one free and two paid. Depending on your needs. Byethost has free web hosting with four plans to pick from, one of them gets you 20GB of bandwidth, 250MB of storage, 2 MySQL databases and 20 subdomains, that one is free more here, http://www.byethost.com/ But right now I am hosting my site on Hasweb, http://www.hasweb.com/ with their Average plan which gets you 2GB of storage, 35GB of bandwidth but doesn't support multiple domains, however, that plan is $48 per year. They have additional plans for hosting multiple domains per each account ranging from 1 to 10 domains across all price levels but each one also gets you more storage and bandwidth. In my experience with Hasweb (I have been with them for a little over a year), the uptime is 99.9% my site has never been down for more than two hours per month, so they are very reliable and have excellent email support, just don't try to actually call them. All in all, Hasweb is an excellent host but read on for another option that might appeal to you. Or if you want here is a third option, Dreamhost, http://www.dreamhost.com/shared/comparison.html which is currently offering with their Level 1 hosting, 20GB of storage, 1TB of bandwidth which increases 8GB weekly, 3000 user accounts, unlimited domain and subdomain hosting and it comes to $7.95 per month with a two year pre-payment. I have heard good things about them as well and it would be very hard to beat the deal they are offering right now. That is a limited time offer and I don't know how long it is good for.

The people at Hostamina.com can offer you a custom plan. I would suggest sending them an email. You should avoid hosts that offer "unlimited" space/bandwidth as this is somewhat of a scam. You should also avoid hosts that offer ridiculous amounts of space/bandwidth, such as 10GB space for only $5/month. Hosts like this overload and oversell servers, and are bad news for anyone who wants reliability. You should also avoid answers here that send you to review sites, as those sites make money off commissions and rank hosts based on how much money they'll get paid, not on how good they are. You should avoid answers here that look like they are affiliate links as well, for the same reason. Hostamina.com is exactly what you need. Support is great! They will help you set up your website, and they will provide you with any help you need. Note that I am not using an affiliate link or sending you to a review site. http://www.hostamina.com -They provide awesome personalized support -They know how to handle all your business needs -They never oversell -They never overload servers -They offer realistic plans -You actually get what they say you get -There is no fake "unlimited" space or bandwidth -There is no fake "50,000 GB" space or bandwidth -They will help you with anything you need help with -They will put you on a super fast server -Every server has at least dual quad core processors -Every server has at least 4GB of RAM -Every server has strict account limitations -Most companies average 300 accounts per server -Hostamina averages 100 accounts per server -Instant Shopping Carts, Blogs, Forums, PHP-Nuke, Joomla, and more!
