Shared Servers
What is the relationship between search engines optimization and types of servers?
I bought a shared server for my website because one of my friends told me that, If bought a server you will get more visitors but some experts told me that , the dedicated server is the best not the shared.
dose this true ?
Because there are people say that whenever the largest server whenever you get more visitors from the search engine. Is this true?
yes. dedicated is better because that work on you site alone which gives your domain the best attention in SEO.
What is the current Linux market share, including servers, desktops, laptops, and every other variety?
i.e. servers, desktops, laptops, supercomputers, E-book readers, video game systems such as the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, several arcade games, and embedded devices such as mobile phones and routers.
Like compared to Windows and Mac and their few varieties.
I don't think anyone is going to have statistics for all of these. Linux is over 50% on web servers on the internet. I think I saw about 15-20% of corporate servers, I'd guess maybe 4 to 5% desktops/laptops. 75% of the new "netbooks" zero PS2, a few people have installed on PS3, but it sucks... Motorola has quite a few cell phones based on linux. Linksys, by far the most popular "home router" is linux based, so maybe 75%. Lots of corporate routers are Linux based, lots of corporations just linux boxes for routers and VPN solutions. Tivo is linux based, many MP3 players are open-source based for their mp3 and ogg/vorbis decoders.
Compared to windows where maybe 70% corporate servers, 80% desktop, 3 to 5% of the routers (Only windows serve boxes running microsoft proxy server would be counted.) maybe 40% of the web servers, a few percent of cell phones if you count windows mobile as windows.
Mac, probably 15% of home desktops/laptops, 4 to 5% corporate desktops, 1 or 2% internet servers, no routers, all the iphones.
How do I get my wireless computers to use shared resources?
I have 8 computers in my office network 4 wired and 4 wireless. I use 1 as a print server and shared file repository. I can access the shared resources with my hardwired computers but not with the wireless ones. All are running XP. I have no problem accessing the internet or another Linux server usng SSH from anywhere. Just the shared drives and printer on this machine. The wireless machines can see the other computes but just cannot connect to them. I am using a Sonicwall firewall/router and WAP encryption on the wireless network.

How do I set up a Shared Disk Volume for 2 servers using Windows 2003 ENT and an HP MSA1000?
I have 2 servers (Win2k3ENT) and a fiber connected HP MSA1000 SAN. I have a LUN created and it shows up in the disk manager of both servers. I need each server to be able to access this volume and see what the other server has written... I'm pretty sure the only way to do it wituout buying extra software is with Win Clustering. I can get the cluster set up and the disk resource added and used as the Quorum resource on one server but once the forst one is set up the other one will not recognise the volume any more and I cant add the disk resource to that server once it is added as a cluster node...
My question is 2 prong:
1. Is there a simpler solution that does not involve a cluster to share the storage, maybe a free HP software or something like that?
2. If not the above, What am I doing wrong or missing here with clustering?
any and all help will be appreciated, thanks to all who respond in advance.

excel files in shared mode are automatically getting deleted?
Hello Everyone,
I have an excel file that is stored on a file server that is in shared mode and many users work on it. but this file is getting deleted automatically (not by the users). very starange
What may be the problem ? Can any one please suggest me how to overcome this ?. I have office 2003.
are you using domain or workgroup in your network? If it is domain, you must have set a permission for a user to delete the file or full permission, also with the workgroup. You can set the file as a READ ONLY and the folder sharing to be limited. It is impossible that a file will be deleted if nobody altered it.
Try chcking your network permissions. Probably ordinary users are quite unaware that they have clicked-and-dragged the file or worse, deleted it without them knowing.
Take care

are the crack downs on p2p sharing aimed at file servers too like rapidshare?
everything i've read is based around programs like limewire, but what about rapidshare which is a file server?
They are cracking down on all sites where copyright material is being passed around for free.
And a word of warning you can be traced even through proxies. If they can catch child pornography users and paedophiles you will present no problem. You will be just chicken feed to them and an easy day at the office!
Any print servers that have two or more ports and are Multi-function capable?
I have 2 USB multi-function printers I want to share on my LAN using a print server or similar device.
Can anyone suggest a model that has 2 or more USB ports and can work with the print/scan/fax/card reader functionality?
I have found several with 2 or more ports that DON"T specifically state MFP capability. I have also found several single port servers that DO state MFP capability. I am sure there are some out there that can link 2 or more Multi-function printers to my LAN.

What must a Windows 2000 client do in order to assign a logical drive letter to a shared folder on a network f
map to the network drive
link to the file server
share the network folder
create a path to the file server
Map the drive. That will create a logical drive letter to that shared folder.
