Shared Server Net
my Questing is about Server networking?
i have a 3 pcs with os 2000server 1pc is webserver 2 is a ftp server and 3 pc is a sharing server and all 3 of them are connecto to router and routr is conneted with dsl . so can i use my pcs as webserver ftp server and sharing server on net so other people from around the world can hit my webserver , ftp server, and sharing server, if yes please replay me in detail thanx u so much
yes you can.
1) each pc on your network you need to give a set ip address, as most routers give each computer an ip address when the computer starts up.
2) in your router setup you would have to also look at port fowarding, this so outside world requests can get thorugh to a specif machine, you should have some already pre set but not operation, i have a linksys, i give an app name such as http, set the external port to 80, internal port to 80, it will ask for an internal ip address. this would be the ip of your web server in my case 10.0.0.3 and save changes.
3) you would then need some sort of dns lookup service. if you join no-ip.com which is free, then go to download there software onto your web server. my site is shoey.no-ip.info (its not up as im upgrading my server) then this will keep no ip up to date with your connection.
4) you would follow similar processes for setting up ftp etc
this is only a really rough quick, guide. if you e-mail me what router you got, id be able to give you something a bit more to your settings
Windows is my Net server for my Macs. When I restart it I have to setup network bridge afresh each time. Why?
I surf the Net exclusively on my Macs, but via wreless
dial-up connection on my Windows laptop, which acts as
my server. The issues are two-pronged.
1. Whenever I shut down the server (due Windows
fragility issues), I have to set up my Network
connections (Netwrok Bridge) all over again such that it streams the connectivity to my Macs. (This is different from having to refresh dialup connections periodically.) Before that, when I check the network connections on my Mac Mini and G4, I notice that all the IP addresses and other details showing a connection to the server display alright, but always get a "NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET" message when I try to surf. Until I run Network setup on the Windows laptop all over again, that is. What gives?
2. Also, I wanted to share files with all computers (PCs and Macs) on this network, but I don't see anything on the server. What am I doing wrong?
You are using a substandard operating system.
Try Linux.
can i configure the multiple ip without two lan card in server ,i want to share inter net connetion in lan?
You can't connect to the internet AND your LAN without either a second network card or a router/switch/hub
I'm looking for anyone that uses MIRC and has d/l'ed movies from TMD channel. on criten.net server. website
TMD channel has changed servers from criten.net to (i think) starfleet.net...but I can't find that server anymore. There is also a website where they give help and tell when and where they move their server. The site also tells how to use the "Recruitment pack". Anyone familiar with this? Im looking for that website desperately!!! ANYONE? I'm DESPERATE!!! (MIRC OR IRC IS PEER-TO-PEER SHARING OF GAMES, MOVIES..ETC...)
Glad to see someone who knows how to chat/p2p old-school via IRC. Try irc.star-fleet.net
TMD operates via this website:

Novell Client no browse ASP.NET application & SQL Server 2000?
Hello Community, I create ASP.NET application on my Labtop running WinXP Pro, When I try do my first test on real network, clients no browse the web application. The network is base on novell, there are clients using Win98 and Xp Home. When I include my labtop on network I install Novell Client 2.x for Windows and configure server name, and others settings. I can access Shares Folders from my laptop and clients same. What is my problem, limitations of network, wrong settings, or what. Also I test same application on windows network and work. The same problem is, when i try to connect to SQL Server 2000 from a client, using small tester for connectivity. Please Help & Thanks...
You should start with a newer version of the Novell client for Windows--- this may be your only problem as 2.x was written many, many years ago and uses different browse protocols than a 2000 server uses to announce itself on the network. The most recent Novell client version is 4.91 I believe. I also don't see any reference to a Novell server on this setup--- I am assuming you have one in the mix somewhere, so make sure its version of NDS can talk to the 4.91 client.
how do i disable internet on my proxy server but not on the clients?
several computers connect to the proxy server (connected to the internet) via LAN and i want to disable the internet on it to prevent unauthorized persons from using the proxy server from surfing the net. by the way, my proxy server is connected to a router which in turn connects to a switch thus the internet sharing. i want to disable internet connection on the proxy server but the clients' access must not be affected.
To start you off id say try local security policies
i want to share a hard drive full of pictures with friends and family should i build ftp or share hd over net?
i am currently running xp home. i have another pc i can run win2k advanced server. also im running a dlink router, can i use the router to host my photo drive?
My suggestion would be to build a simple website to share your photos with friends and family...its something that even the average computer user is farmiliar with and you wont confuse anyone...
What's this error "The server is not configured for transactions"?
At the beginning I thought it was a virus - I was re-doing my Win2k machine at the office from scratch - the balance of my network works fine. When I try to connect to this computer from others, I get the above error.
What's worse is that I try to do a "Net share IPC$" and it works for a few moments, then dissapears.
I thought it was a virus, so I LLF'd the hard drive and started over from scratch again. I still get the same problem. If it's a virus, it's a freakin' resilient one - never faced anything like this before and I've set up hundreds of computers over dozens of networks.
I tried one thing - rebooting the computer but not logging in (leaving it at the login screen) and the printer shares work.
When I saw that I thought it may be something in my profile (it's a roaming profile) so I deleted my profile on the server and all roaming copies of it. STILL THE SAME when I login with a fresh profile! Arggggghhh!
Need help!!!!
Here's what's been done in this pewter so far:
- Win 2k installed
- SP4 installed
- Drivers installed
- IE6 installed OFFLINE (from CD)
- MS Malicious Software removal tool runned with 0 results.
- Internet connection configured but NOT connected to internet yet.
It's not a virus. Doing a clean install means it probably isn't a Windows issue. I assume you've got it networked correctly, with domain, DNS, DHCP, etc. set correctly (if you've done hundreds, you know how to do this stuff).
Intermittent, persistent connectivity issues is probably a network hardware issue. I would first swap out the NIC with a known good one. They're cheap/easy to install. If it fixes the problem... who cares whether it was the old NIC or the drivers? Second, I would check the power supply. You can get some truly amazing issues with a p/s that's pushing out poor amperages. Third, I'd put the motherboard on the bench and test that.
Yahoo messenger not connecting under proxy server?
I am having three PC out of that 1st PC is directly connected with cable modem with Win2000 & FreeProxy loaded on it,2nd PC's OS is win2000 which is sharing net connection with 1st PC & 3rd PC was also with WIN2000 & using net throu freeproxy & I was using msn & yahoo messenger on all 3 PC but yesterday I installed WIN-Xp with Ser.Pack 2 on PC no.3 now I am having problem in yahoo messenger I am not getting connection into messenger with new OS but windows live messenger is working perfectly on that same PC so please suggest me any changes to make on main server free proxy or PC having winXP.
Did you check the WinXP firewall settings, or just disable it? Your proxy settings, IP, etc, could have been removed as well due to the upgrade. If none of this works then check your router settings and any packet filtering you may have on it?
