Shared Hosting Control Panel
How do you determine which startup programs to remove?
I read the answers to this question:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;...
I followed the instructions to disable the startup programs, but there are so many--I don't know which ones I should disable? I have never had this problem w/my PC!
I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista(another thorn in my side).
Startup programs include:
TOSHIBA flash cards
TOSHIBA Power Saver
TOSHIBA Zooming Utility
Intel common user interface(there are 3)
Windows defender
Windows
Microsoft Windows media player network sharing...
Microsoft Windows Explorer
Microsoft Userinit Logon Application
Microsoft Windows host process
Adobe Acrobat
Google Desktop
Groove Monitor Utiliy
HD Audio Control Panel
Symantec Security Techology
Symantec Shared Components
Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
and one that says N/A with Startup Value: NDSTray.exe
All suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Here's a list of common programs that you can disable from the startup list:

There's also a quick video tutorial on how to enable/disable them on that page.
i want a blog web site but?
I have been blogging for almost 2 yrs on blogger.com but i would to finally upgrade to my own domain.
with blogger i just have the basic settings and i did not ad anything besides my posts
I would like a blog similar to this one
http://www.intomobile.com/
I know how to do the layout and look but i do not know how to do the following please help
set up an rss feed
set this up----Email this • Save to del.icio.us • Stumble It! • Share on Facebook • Digg This!
the "get new posts by email"
something to do comments with- like they did no need to register just need to suply name email and comment
are the above done via i guess blog tools or is this done via coding?
ALSO if i want my own domain i know i can get a domain from a million different places but are there companies out there that do domain/hosting for the blogger with blogger tools in the control panel?
To set up an rss feed, you can use feedburner.com and use addthis.com to setup a bookmark on your post.
to get new posts by email, you need to use autoresponder. You can use a free one at freefollowup.com and to set up anonymous comment, just go to your blogger settings. I think it's somewhere on the comments section.
How can I UNSHARE my printers and scheduled tasks folder?
Ok, I'm at a loss on this one. I want to share my files over the network, it's just that I don't need my printers and scheduled tasks to be messed with. Here is what my configuration looks like:
● Simple file sharing is unchecked.
● Default administrative shares are disabled by this guide: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/288164
● Computer Management -> System Tools -> Shared Folders -> Shares show nothing but my specific shared folders and the IPC$
● I've also deleted the entries in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace "{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}" AND "{2227A280-3AEA-1069-A2DE-08002B30309D}" from this guide: http://www.mcse.ms/message680751.html
● Printers in the control panel show that they are NOT being shared if I right click on them and select "Sharing..."
...but these 2 damn folders STILL SHOW UP when a machine on the network attempts to browse the host. How can I get rid of these remote folders???
@skibbitty:
I don't think you understand, these 2 items show up on the REMOTE computers when browsing the host. As a matter of fact, even if the remote computer selects them, there is no "properties" option.
make them hidden. right click on the folder in question and under properties make them hidden.
i have a problem with a pop up its something like reditty.com, how can i do?
Hi.
Some of the entries from HJT show you have a possible Vundo trojan infection.
These are suspicious, and probably malware:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qommkji.dll <--- this is part of the Vundo trojan.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\utovrzdv.dll <--- this is part of the Vundo infection
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE <--- this is spyware.
Try tunning the VundoFix tool, which should detect and remove any infections.
The tool with instructions is available here: http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/2/
Once VundoFix is installed, do the following;
Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.
Now that the automated Vundofix has run a check against its internal database, please try running it bit differently, with the manual additions as below:
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* You will receive a message saying Vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK.
* When VundoFix re-opens, click Scan for Vundo button.
* Once the scan is complete, right-click inside the listbox (white box) and click Add more files?
* Copy & paste the 2 entries below into the top 2 boxes:
o C:\WINDOWS\system32\qommkji.dll
o C:\WINDOWS\system32\utovrzdv.dll
* Click Add Files and click Close Window.
* Click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES.
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
* Turn your computer back on.
You might need more help after this, so I suggest registering with a proper security forum like Wilderssecurity ( http://www.wilderssecurity.com/ ) where you will get more help.
Good luck.
Help please cause a pop up window comes up saying that i have a dangerous virus so here is my hijackthis log?

Limewire blows, full of trash. Go to tools then click on manage your add-ons. Then be sure you disable everything to do with limewire in that window. That should do it.
Please help me! I can't open my mail! only my mail, another mail it's work! This it's your 1 request, not work
Hello Mihaela,
Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Mail.
I'm really sorry that you're having trouble with your Yahoo! Mail
account. I'm glad you let me know about it and want to help get this
figured out.
The good news is I've tested your account and couldn't reproduce the
issue. This means the problem is related to your computer and it could
be something simple, like a program that was recently installed or a
setting that's improperly configured.
I've provided a thorough list of troubleshooting steps below. I
apologize in advance because it's long and technical. I'm hopeful that
with your help, we can fix the problem.
If, after trying these troubleshooting steps, you're still having
trouble with your Yahoo! Mail account, please take just a bit more time
to reply to this message with further details about what you tried and
your results.
Now, on to the recommendations!
SIGN ON AS AN ADMINISTRATOR
Please make sure that your computer account has administrative
privileges and that you're signed in as the administrator. This is
especially important if you're in a work or shared computer environment.
If you're not sure, please check with your computer vendor or Help desk
to verify your computer privileges.
If you already have administrative privileges, let's move on to the next
recommendation.
USE A SUPPORTED INTERNET BROWSER
Let's check out your browser. Most issues with Yahoo! Mail can be
resolved quickly by ensuring you're using an up-to-date Internet
browser. You can also try switching to a supported alternate Internet
browser. Please check out the list at the Yahoo! Help web site below
for supported Internet browsers:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/errors/errors-19.html
Did updating or switching to a supported Internet browser help resolve
the issue? I hope so! If not, please move on to the next
recommendation.
CLEARING YOUR CACHE
Let's try clearing your browser cache first. We've found that this
usually takes care of a lot of issues. When you need to clear your
cache, follow the instructions below for your browser and version.
* Internet Explorer 7.0 for Windows
1. Choose "Internet Options..." from IE's Tools menu.
2. Click on "Delete" under "Browsing History".
3. Click on "Delete All" at the bottom, and choose "OK" if prompted.
4. Click the OK button at the bottom of the Internet Options window.
5. Close and re-start your browser.
ENABLE JAVASCRIPT
JavaScript is a simple programming language that's essential to any
modern Internet site. Without JavaScript enabled, the Yahoo! Mail
client may not perform as designed. To fix this, make sure that you
have JavaScript enabled. Here's how:
Internet Explorer 7.0:
1. From the "Tools" menu, click "Internet Options."
2. Click on the "Advanced" tab and then in the "Settings" list, scroll
down to the "Security" section.
3. Select the "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer"
check box.
4. Click "OK."
5. Click "Apply."
6. Click "OK."
7. Close and relaunch your Internet browser.
Did enabling JavaScript in your Internet browser help resolve the issue?
If not, please hang in there with us as we move on to the next
troubleshooting recommendation.
INSTALL THE LATEST JAVA RUNTIME ENVIRONMENT
The Java Runtime Environment contains essential updates to the Java
programming language, developed by Sun Microsystems. To ensure you have
the latest package installed, try downloading and installing the latest
version of this software. It's available as a free download here:
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Did installing the latest Java Runtime Environment correct the issue?
If not, don't give up hope -- we'll get this figured out yet! Let's
move on to the next recommendation to help identify the issue.
TEMPORARILY DISABLE ANTIVIRUS/ANTISPY/FIREWALL PRODUCTS
Maybe one of your security applications, such as your antivirus,
anti-spyware, or firewall products, is causing a problem with your
Yahoo! Mail.
To see if this is the problem, please temporarily disable your security
software to see if the issue goes away.
1. For most security software products, you can right-click on the
security software icon in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen,
by the system clock. This will usually pop up a menu with "Preferences"
or "disable" as an option.
2. Try to change one of those options to see if the issue goes away.
Please note: In some cases, you might not be able to completely disable
the security software. The directions for each security software package
differ from vendor to vendor. If you need help, please get in touch with
your security software vendor or computer Help desk.
After disabling your security software products, did the issue go away?
If not, please try the next set of recommendations.
DISABLE INTERNET BROWSER ADD-ONS/PLUG-INS
Each Internet browser comes with optional upgrades or enhancements
commonly known as "add-ons" or "plug-ins." These features make your
Internet browser more useful. Common uses include (but aren't limited
to):
" Toolbars
" News or Stock Tickers
" Instant Messaging
" Weather alerts
" Email alerts
" Antivirus/Antispy
" Games
Certain add-ons or plug-ins can actually cause problems running some web
sites. To find out if this is the case, please try one of the following
tasks for your specific browser:
If you're running Internet Explorer 7.0:
1. Close out of all instances of the Internet Explorer internet browser.
2. Select "Start", "Settings", then click "Control Panel".
3. Double-click on "Internet Options".
4. Select the "Advanced" tab.
5. Under "Browsing", remove the "Enable third-party internet browser
extensions" check box.
6. Relaunch the Internet Explorer internet browser.
Once you've successfully disabled your Internet browser's add-ons or
plug-ins, try accessing your Yahoo! Mail account again. If the steps
above fix the problem, this will confirm that an add-on or plug-in in
your Internet browser is the culprit causing behind the problem.
To re-enable the Internet browser add-ons or plug-ins, simply repeat and
reverse the steps listed above. Once you've figured out which add-ons or
plug-ins are causing the issue, please contact the vendor for help.
Did disabling your Internet browser add-ons or plug-ins resolve the
issue? If not, thanks for all your patience in trying these
recommendations. Let's try one last step below.
TRY ANOTHER COMPUTER WITH A DIFFERENT ISP
If you've tried all the steps listed above and the issue simply won't go
away, I'm pretty sure the symptoms are related to your computer,
Internet browser, or your Internet service provider (ISP). If it's
possible, try accessing your Yahoo! Mail account from another computer
at a different location. You should also try a different ISP to
eliminate that as a possible factor.
IF THINGS ARE STILL NOT WORKING
Hopefully everything's working smoothly now. If things are still bumpy,
please take just a bit more time to reply to this message with further
details. Be sure to specifically include which steps you've tried so
far, and the results from each step. This information will help us
assess the issue more effectively and efficiently and hopefully figure
it out once and for all!
Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Mail.
Regards,
Harley

BT Home Hub not showing in My Network Places after it crashed?
Hi I was using my BT Home Hub's UPnP function to use File Sharing Programs and to play online games , it was working great , I didnt have to open ports through its config page 192.168.1.254 because the UPnP was working fine , I had opened control panel and clicked on Network and Internet Connections>Network Connections which showed the Internet Gateway and within its properties it showed me which port was open for each application , plus , on My Network Places it showed the Home Hub symbol ....but , the hub restarted itself and now neither show on My Network Places , ive tried a restart and a factory reset of the Hub plus went to services and restarted SSDP Discovery Service and Universal Plus and Play Device Host , both are running and set to auatomatic but still the Hub doesnt show ???? If anyone knows a way or has advice to get the Hubs UPnP function working again i'll be greatfull
Many Thanks
My home hub doesn't appear in My Network Places, I just have the IP addy in my favourites on IE. I don't think it is actually supposed to appear there to be honest so I don't think your system is playing up. I take it that you had a problem with the NAT being restricted to have been playing with the system to allow you gaming?
How to set up a wireless network...?
So I wish to set up a wireless network to enable both a PS3 (which I have) and a PVR (which I am about to purchase) to stream media from my laptop.
I am a massive noob in this area so any help would be greatly appreciated.
This is the equipment I have:
Laptop, which has neither internal wireless or Bluetooth capabilities. It does have an Ethernet connection and it also has a connection which has the words "Expansion Port 2" written near it (if that means anything re what I am trying to achieve.)
Netgear 4 port wireless router connected wirelessly to my laptop through a 54 Mbps wireless pc card (wg511 v2)
Windows XP Home edition.
Ps3 with wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. I already have this connected to the internet through the wireless router. (just not the media server thingy.)
Windows Media Player 11 (apparently this is used in regards the PS3 media sharing)
-------------------
I will tell you what I have attempted so far and you can chuckle out loud for a while then see if you can help me out :)
I clicked on control panel>wireless network setup wizard>ok>set up a new wireless network.
I give the new network a name and leave it checked on "automatically assign a network key"
Now it asks how I want to set up my network.
It recommends using a USB flash drive which I tried first of all and it put some kind of setup program on there. It then said to put the drive in the wireless access point, then the other computer (which I assume can also be the PS3) and then finally back into the host computer.
The first hurdle I came across was the fact that the wireless router I have does not have a USB port!
At this point I am starting to wonder whether I have all of the required equipment (perhaps some sort of networking specific hardware is missing?)
Still that is what you are all for!
I decided to come at this from a different angle so I go back to where it recommends using the USB drive to continue with the network setup.
There is another option which says "set up a network manually."
When I choose this option it says "Depending on the wireless software running on this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work.”
It then would not allow me to go any further.
This confuses me momentarily till I try another option and it makes more sense…
I go to control panel>network connections>new connection wizard
Near the bottom of this next page it has a hyper link to “view wireless networks in range.”
When I click on this it goes to a page which says “choose a wireless connection.”
But in the panel it says “windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to configure this wireless connection, use that software. If you want to use windows to configure this wireless connection click “change advanced settings,” click the wireless connections tab then select the check box labeled “use windows to configure my wireless network settings.”
When I do exactly this and then click on “view wireless networks” it comes up with a warning. “You have made changes to the properties of this connection. If you proceed your changes will be lost. Do you wish to proceed?”
At this point I panic that I will lose my current wireless internet connection and instead ask the experts (that’s you.)
Does the fact that my pc connects to the wireless router through some sort of Netgear proprietary software factor in here?
So can I do this thing wirelessly? If not can I do it with cords and if so how would I achieve that?
Thanks so much for your help.
Ok so I have an update:
When I was initially attempting all of the above I was connected to the internet wirelessly through the wireless pc card as I was doing it.
I swapped from the wireless connection to the Ethernet connection and tried the: control panel>wireless network setup wizard>ok>set up a new wireless network thing.
This time I by-passed the recommended USB option for the "set up a network manually." Option.
Whereas before it gave me this warning, "Depending on the wireless software running on this computer, the wireless network setup wizard might not work.” Now it let me go through and asked me to print out a set of network settings which were to be entered into the host computer/router and the other computer (ie. PS3)
I printed out the settings but am reasonably clueless as to where exactly to enter them.
Is it though the little Netgear icon in the system tray? Where on the PS3? Where on the host computer?
Again I apologize for the noobness but we all have to start somewhere right?
Pete.
first, enter your router by typing 192.168.1.1 in your browser's address bar. you can configure your router there. this by the way is a manual configuration. enable security in the wireless security tab and make sure to remember the keys or passwords you will use. let the pc's and ps3 detect the wireless signal and connect them by keying in the required passwords. these should be able to detect one another in the network once they are connected.
its done!
