Setup Server
Where can I find good documentation on how to properly setup a new company mail/internet server?
I recently purchased a new Dell server for a company that I do IT work for as their server was archaic. I hope to get the new server setup and running over a weekend, but want to make sure I am aware of all the details that need to be addressed in setting up a new server.
i.e. Things like:
Setting up exchange and ISA server.
Firewall stuff that will allow remote desktop access to client machines.
Setting up static IP addresses for clients.
Exchange mailbox things, etc.
Thanks!

so what kind of server should i buy and what os should be install on server.. and how to cofigure the server..
It sounds like you want to set up a proxy server. Squid is a very good, free one: http://www.squid-cache.org/
If you also want your server to be the router, I recommend Linux - any flavor. I personally like ubuntu and Fedora.
How do I setup my server to send alerts about hardware failures without running exchange?
I would like to setup my Microsoft Server 2003 OS to send me alerts when hardware is having problems or memory space is too low. I am not running exchange server and understand that this can be accomplished by using a simple smtp procedure, I just don't know how to set it up. How do I setup my print server - I have a small office with 4 computers and 2 printers?
I would like to setup my print server for my small office. I have 4 computers (on D-Link wireless router) with additional laptop users that come and go and I want everyone to be able to use BOTH printers; a Sharp Multifunction Laser & Canon Inkjet. I bought a EUSSO 2 USB/1 Serial print server and connected it to my wireless router as well as the printers, but can't figure it out!!! I'm running Windows XP Professional on all of the computers. Thanks for your help!
Many printers are not supported by most print servers, especially multi-function. You are better off connecting each of them to one of the pcs and setting them up as shared printers.
I setup my server but cannot connect to the internet. What gives?
I setup my internet connection on the new SBS 2K3box. I amable to connect to my router but typing in it's IP address. So I assume there is no conenction problem w/ the router. DHCP is running on the server not the router. I put in the correct DNS forwarders, copied from my 1st server. Any trouble shooting ideas?
The ISP might be the culprit. Try to plug in to the Modem first, just the modem. If you have no connection then it'd the ISP. If you do then check to see if the modem is fowarding packets to you router. If it is power the rougher and modem off. then bring them up one at a time. The modem first, allowing for it to acquire an IP, then bring up the router, allowing this to acquire an IP then you should be able to gain access
does anyone know how to setup a teamspeak server to run through a BT home hub?
I have setup a TS server on my pc everything is setup right on the server it runs fine.. I can connect to it through lan but when a friend tries to connect (wan) he can't does anyone know what i need to do with the settings in the hub to get it to work right?
Make sure he has your EXTERNAL IP address, not your local machine IP address (local IP is going to be 192.xxx.xxx.xxx). Be sure to change the default port from 8000 on the server, delete the default admin account and create another one with admin rights but with a unique name to prevent brute force password hacks. It really sucks when some script kiddie hacks your TS server and takes it over.
Be aware that your external IP Address is going to change from time to time depending on how often your ISP refreshes it.
If you don't know your external IP address just visit:

How can I setup a proxy server?

how can i setup a server at home using DSL?
I just want to run a server using the dynamic DSL service. Can any one help me with the setup.
You'd need to subscribe to a service like http://www.dyndns.com/ where they monitor your dynamic DNS and map that to a static one that the whole world will see. That way, no matter what IP address your ISP gives you, your server will always be visible to the rest of the world as they only see the domain name which is mapped by that service, to your dynamic DNS.
As to what other setup you require.. depends. What are you using? You can get Apache (http://www.apache.org/) which is a free web server, and MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/) which is a free database server. There are many other things as well but it all depends on what you have as pages for your website. If you can provide a list, that'll be easier and more specific.

How can I setup a server based network with windows 2003 server?
I would like to learn about creating a simple server based network for my office. But I haven't any experiance on networking. Can you explain me step by step?
IM? What do you mean by that?
Any messangers?
First, you will need to establish a Domain Contoller for your domain. Here is a guide to assist you with that: http://www.visualwin.com/AD-Controller/
After this you will need to join the workstations and/or servers to the domain. Here is a guide for that: http://www.petri.co.il/joining_a_domain_in_windows_xp_pro.htm
Let me know if you need assistance or have further questions.
