what server technology is used by big companies like yahoo, Google, EBay and Amazon?
Are these companies servers JAVA, .net or any other platform? is there any way of knowing the server technology by observation?
There is a plugin for Firefox called 'Server Spy' that'll tell you the server being used by most sites you visit. Somehow Yahoo is blocking that information, but this is the only site I've seen that does that.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2036/
You normally can't tell what server a site is using by observing the site; however, there may be an occasional error, but that's extremely rare.
What does the term "cloud" refer to when speaking of information technology? Simply a server system?
The term is also used somewhat ambiguously in the AV (Audio/Visual) industry. "Cloud" is also mentioned when referring to IT solutions.
Pl. read:
Does each blog channel have its own cloud?
Yes, that's possible.
However, the beauty of a topic cloud is that it covers the entire blogsite.
Typically, each blogsite has its own topic cloud that encapsulates all blog posts and content items (from the content management plug-in) to be presented in a single cloud. This makes it possible to easily see all relevant information in the blogsite.
It is also possible to scale the cloud down to just a specific blog channel.
Can you tell me what benefits a VB6 developer gains if he/she starts using SQL Server 2005 technology?
More specifically, if a VB6 developer is developing (large scale) applications, which run on SQL Server 2000, are there any real benefits for the developer if he/she upgrades to SQL Server 2005? From developer point of view.
The benefits are limited. Basically SQL Server 2005 is a little quicker responding and has functions for debugging Stored Procedures, but other than that, you probably wouldn't notice a difference.
What technology does yahoo games use for communication between client and server?
I have done some socket programming in the past and I'm going to start writing a game. I noticed that when you use yahoo games there is no security prompt and therefore the applet is not signed. In what way are the client and server communicating that does not require the applet to be signed?
If you have done some programming before, don't you remember what the security restrictions for applets are?
...
The applet can talk to the server it was downloaded from...
what are the different tiers in client server technology?
Client server is network architecture which separates a client (often an application that uses a graphical user interface) from a server. Each instance of the client software can send requests to a server. Specific types of servers include web servers, application servers, file servers, terminal servers, and mail servers. While their purposes vary somewhat, the basic architecture remains the same.
Although this idea is applied in a variety of ways, on many different kinds of applications, an easy example to visualize is an internet site. For instance, if you are browsing an online store, your computer and web browser would be considered a client, and the computers, databases, and applications that make up the online store would be considered the server. When your web browser requests a particular page from the online store, the server finds all of the information required to display the article in the database, assembles it into a web page, and sends it back to your web browser for you to look at.
