Server Rental

what kind of server should I rent for a startup vod project?
I'm looking to start a streaming video community, kind of like youtube, but with a specialized content. What is a good server rental company that can supply servers with smooth video and lots of storage, to a few thousand users at an affordable cost? Thanks

I can not tell you a server to do what you want, but there is a free alternative you might want to look into TVU player, it is kind of like a tv application and allows you to signup for free channels and broadcast about anything you want. It is very stable, good quality video, and best yet it is free.

why not a cenralised server to store all pc users data/information on rental basis and avoid hard disk?
some body can start a centralised server company to store each pc's data on rental basis and the individual can retrieve it as we read our email from the mail box so that hard disk free computers can be evolved or minimum local storage and the remaining in a rented space away from the work place/home like bank's locker system

Net computer? That's been thrown around... It's not viable; HD space is really cheap, you don't want someone else to hold your secrets, and you couldn't be sure the connect is 100% stable. Oh, and one error will destroy all users' files, not just one...

Where can I rent a server to host all my websites?
I would like to rent a server so I don't have to keep paying my hosting company to host all my websites (100+) which if you imagine the cost soon mounts up. I'm looking for something which I can administrate and possibly sell off hosting to make a small amount of cash on the side. If anyone could provide some links to websites offering rental of servers or 'reseller' accounts it would be much appreciated :)

how to turn off monitor thru server?
I am making 5 pc network. 1 as server and the other 4 for rental. I want to set an automatic timer for the 4 pc. I have seen some shop with automatic timer. one that turns off monitor or freeze monitor after the time set in the server. I don't have any idea how it was done and how it work. All I know is that the server control the time use by the other pc, they can set and reset the time and that the customer should inform the attendant earlier if they are extending or else the monitor freeze when time lapse. I can't ask the owner of the shop how and I'm short in cash thats why I cant hire a programmer, so I'm trying to fix everything up. If you know anything about it, will you be kind and teach me how? It will be a great help for me. Thanks!

Do Canadians really not know what to tip when eating in American restaraunts?
I waited tables for three years in a US/Canadian border city. The restaraunt I worked at was very close to a major shopping center and this attracted many Canadian customers due to the absense of certain taxes on clothing. On the weekends our clientele would consist of aprox. 40% Canadians. The great majority of Canadians were TERRIBLE tippers. In conversation with a table of Canadian customers I once indicated that servers make much less than minimum wage (at that time I was making $3.25 an hr). The customers were shocked and didnt believe me. Before anyone comes in here with, "Well you must have been a bad server!" Understand that by the age of 25 I already own my own home and have 3 rental units. Anyways whats the deal with all these bad tippers?

not to be stereotypical, I have waited tables on and off for about 16 yrs, very few and far between do I serve someone from canada that actually tips the customary 15 to 20 % usually they leave just a couple bucks, and seriously I don't suck as a server. and it can't be that I am getting all the cheap old folks either. they have got to know what the customary thing is to do here. I generally make 20 % of my sales 90% of the time. I make almost as much as my high powered executive husband, when you factor in how many hours I work vs how many he works, and what we each take home bi weekly. so I really don't want to hear about how bad my service must have been. because that is not the problem. I am not trying to sound like a b***h. I don't really care what they tip, I am still going to smile and serve them like I would any other guest that comes through my section. because well... thats my job. you take the good with the bad.

Is it possible to have 2 phonelines in one house both giving 8meg on one ISP to total to 16meg?
A friend told me that his work has two phonelines going into a proxy server and he can download their at 1.6mb/s. Is it possible just to pay another £11 for BT line rental and get the internet also down both lines in a resedential place, without a proxy server to total 16meg. If so how would i do this.

Well, I think there is some misunderstandings here! First, you can indeed run two internet lines. You can then load balance them so that they both have balanced feeds. But to combine them in to ONE 16meg line needs a BONDED DSL line (that starts at the other end!) Otherwise you will have TWO IP addresses and you will not get combined through put it will be two 8 meg lines! There are many many routers out there that have two dsl inputs and can auto load balance and provide redundancy. I have yet to see one that can COMBINE the two into one from the client end! May be out there somewhere but I haven't seen it.

rental house foreclosure?
Process server came to my home tonight with forclosure papers. I rent this house and I am suppose to buying it from my landlord. She has 800 earnst money and we have a lease till July 16, 2008 then we are suppose to talk about buying house. What do I know. Can I buy it from the bank? Do I pay rent? What happens to my earnst money? How long do I have before the bank takes posession? Will they give me and option to buy the house and how does that work, with foreclosure on price.

The NOD is just the initial shot, there is still quite a bit to the foreclosure process. Ask the owner what they plan to do and make your move accordingly. If the lender takes the house, your earnest money is gone. You have about 3 months before the lender takes possession. They will not give you an option to buy the house, they will put it on the open market for anyone to buy. Then you can buy it from the lender.

to whom do I make contact about propane price gouging and service over charges?
The company referred to raised price $.65 above all area servers plus a "HASMIT charge $3.95 per fill. I paid off in full in june and ordered my tank P/U. in july I recieved a $35.00 tank rental fee rental. Rentals run yearly from july to june 30 2008, did not pay. Charged $70.00 for tank P/U in august . Did not pay. Do I need a lawyer or can "BBB" or another help me.

Before you do anything- Re-Read your contract! BBB is not a policing agency, however, you should call them anyway. Buy from another dealer after 'letting your fingers do the walking' Also, you should write or call the 'PRICE GOUGER' a nasty letter just to let him know you`ll never buy from him again, that his business SUCKS, and you are giong to tell all your friends not to buy there! As for the monies, you shuold consult a lawer to sue in small claims court, if you think this is worth it!
