Registering domain names?
This weekend I was in my boyfriend's car with him and I found a paper in his glove box where he had registered a domain name. He became VERY angry and snatched it away from me. Needless to say, I am determined to find out what it was about.
The only info I was able to see was that it was registered with "GoDaddy" and a partial email address he had used in registration something like "kel@legacy...". I wasn't able to catch the rest of the email address. I can't even find the site that offers this address...does anyone know what it is? Any way I can find the address with only part of it?
Any help appreciated!
I don't need relationship advice! If you don't have an answer to the question, please don't answer!
He registered a domain name with godaddy. Probably he wan't to launch a website. But I am not sure why he was angree. There is nothing much in it to register a domain, or its possible if he's gonna register a domain for a porn site and he doesn't want you to know about it. I am not sure. Good luck!
Personal website building 101: registering domain names; free/ paid hosting; how to build a website?
Hello!
I'd be grateful for advice...
I purchased a domain name with bravenet.com
I also have free hosting with bravenet.
I would now like to build a personal website.
However, I do not like bravenet's templates or website builder.
Could someone tell me:
* What is free hosting and what does this provide? (there are ads with bravenet)
* Am I tied into being hosted by bravenet because I purchased my domain name via them?
* Will I have to re-purchase the domain name via bravenet on renewal?
* Can I move away from bravenet- and what can I move and how do I do it?
* What elements can I move and why should I consider this?
* Is it better to pay for hosting?
* Any suggestions as to good, reasonably priced hosting companies?
* Can anyone suggest a good way of building a website (either with an online website builder or with easy-to-learn web design functions as I am a web design total beginner)?
Thank you.
Scotty

How can I tell what domain names are registered by a specific company?
Is there a way to tell what domain names are registered with a specific company? For example, Microsoft. Is there a resource on the web where I can enter in Microsoft and then see what domain names are registered under their name?

Cybersquatting and profitting off of domain names?
I was reading about cybersquatting on wikipedia and it made me come up with a question.
Before I ask the question, I will tell you all already, these domain names are already taken, so it's hypothetical:
Would it be considered cybersquatting and be illegal if somebody registered domain names such as clintonobama.com or giulianiromney.com in hopes that they would be the candidates in '08, so that they could sell those domain names to the campaigns for big bucks?
Cybersquatting is the practice of registering a trademark as a domain name with the intent of profiting from it by selling it, usually to the trademark owner. As long as the cybersquatter owns the domain name, the trademark owner cannot register its own trademark as a domain name. In this sense, the cybersquatter breaches the fundamental rights of the trademark owner to use its trademark. However, it is important to note that there is nothing wrong with the practice of reserving a domain name. Frequently, cybersquatters register words or phrases they hope will some day be sought after by new companies or new business divisions. A trademark is not infringed by a domain name unless the trademark existed at the time of domain name registration. This kind of cybersquatting is speculative and legitimate. John D. Mercer also identifies "innocent" cybersquatting, whereby the registrant does infringe a trademark "based on some unrelated interest in the word itself, without intending harm to a trademark owner" and "concurrent" cybersquatting, whereby the registrant uses the same trademark as another commercial entity, but not within a competing industry.[8]
However, the harmful kind of cybersquatting involves intentional bad faith trafficking in domain names that are the same as, or a dilution of, existing trademarks. Such domain name registrants are considered "modern day extortion[ists]." [9] Mercer offers a fitting definition: "an illegal cybersquatter should be one who acquires a domain name for the sole purpose of obtaining money or other advantage from the trademark owner, with no intent or desire to use the domain name, except as an instrument toward this purpose."
where are domain names originally registered like where does yahoo get them?
i want to know how i can register a domain name without paying any company like yahoo in other words where does yahoo register em i want to know so i can register my own for free.
If you want a .com / .org / .net, or anything like that, you'll need to pay. If you just want something easy to remember, but don't mind what it is, there are sites that offer free domains and free subdomains.
I use:
http://www.co.cc/?id=149295
You can tie it in with a free hosting site and get a nice looking URL, ad free. It supports URL forwarding as well as proper nameservers - so you can point it to most good web hosts.
