Well GoDaddy.com is good and close to that price range. I would like to recommend my friends site: http://www.TemeculaValleyDomains.net He has prices in that range, you can pay with PayPal, not problems at all with transfers, and they have a phone number where you can talk to a real person. I know this is a shameless plug, but I know this guy and his service is good. I use and have no problems with: Name Secure Go Daddy Temecula Valley Domain Registrar Register dot com

Private domain registration vs public...Is private registration important?
I'm purchasing a domain name from godaddy and I'm confused as to whether or not paying extra for a private registration is worth it. I understand that if I list under public it will be published in the whois directory but I'm not sure I see the advantage of listing private. Is my business address and name the only thing I'm hiding by going private or is there more to it than that? I would appreciate anyone who could clarify this. Please keep in mind that I'm not the most savy with technology "lingo". Thanks!

I did this and went PRIVATE. The core of all of that information *could be* your Social Security #. Spend the extra few dollars to be safe. There are some top level hackers in this day and age.

i registered a domain name with Lycos, w/c has no private domain registration. ?
is there any solution to make my domain name private or anonymous? Like, transfer my registration?

Its here in the FAQ> http://info.lycos.com/privacy.php

Reputable Non-US Private Domain Registration?
I need to register a domain name, but anonymity is critical. This domain would be used to help gather a critical mass to block a major corporate merger. I want to register the domain with an entity that 1) is not in the US, 2) has a documented history of saying "no" when a request comes in to reveal the registrant and 3) could host the site. I don't want anything in the US. For example, I don't want Domains By Proxy--they're US and have a reputation for caving in under only minor pressure.

Okay, there is a news article at http://www.fbi.gov that talks about how hackers are using domains from Iran that can not be penetrated. I really do not understand your question though, what is the bad about being tracked. You are willing to go head to toe, only if you can not be identified? That in itself sounds shadier than the corporate merger you are trying to block! You can also try http://one-free-website.com which will not reveal your info. Merry Christmas and I hope this helps

What domain registar would you recommend?
Hi all! I am trying to register a domain name, but not sure where to register it? I found a couple of really cheap ones which I think are really good value, but not sure which is better at service and if they provide free DOMAIN NAME PRIVACY on the WHOIS website??? Here are the ones I'm considering: 1. GoDaddy.com - $6.95/year and they're offering loads of other free stuff as well but I'm not sure how much they charge for private domain registration as I didn't see it mentioned on their website... 2. Netfirms.com - $4.95/year plus free email and free domain name privacy on WHOIS website but not sure if their service is good and the cheap price is a bit suspicious...don't know 3. FXdomains.com - $7.85/year and they're also offering loads of free stuff with it just like GoDaddy are but they're $0.90 more expensive than GoDaddy, plus they've got sale for private domain registration for $1.95/year but I'm not sure if this will go up on your second year as it's sale now. Please tell me if you know any other good registars that are good value like these ones and why you would you recommend it? Or maybe is GoDaddy good enough and I'm being too choosy? I would very much like to know your opinion on this. Thank you very much!

I have used aplus.net and smallbusiness.yahoo.com for my domains without any problems. Godaddy.com is a good firm to use. Register quickly else the dotcom you want will vanish real quick as a name-idea can pop into any head at any time. ;-)

Domain Registrar with free Private Registration?
I currently am in the process of switching from 1and1 to hosting my own server from home. I still need my domains I had with 1and1 however. I am looking for a new domain registrar that provides free private WHOIS, with a price under 10$ a year. I do not want 1and1, because I have had a bad experience with their customer service, and I don't want anything to do with them. So who would be a good domain registrar? I like GoDaddy and Domain.com but they both charge extra for private WHOIS? Who would you recommend?

I recommend http://www.namecheap.com They don't have free private registration (except the first year) but you can buy WhoisGuard 5 Pack @ $7.88/year (that's $1.57/domain) Of course, you can use them (apply to a domain or extend the existing WhoisGuard) separately whenever you want. And you always get a free WhoisGuard the first year with every new registration or transfer. Pricing: New domain registration: $9.69/yr Transfers: $7.99/yr Renewals: $9.69/yr Promo codes: New domain registration: (you can always use a promo code to get this price down to $8.81 There's a new code every month. The code for the October is INDIANSUMMER) Transfers & Renewals: Just subscribe to their newsletter. From time to time Namecheap will send promo codes with 15% discounts for transfers and renewals.

I renewed my Domain Regsitration through yahoo 48 hours ago. Why the change not shown in the WHOS database?
I renewed my Private Domain Registration through Yahoo more than 48 hours for one year. Why the change is not yet reflected in the public WHOIS database? It still shows the previous expiry date.

it will take a little while usually.

Already registered a domain w/ a company that doesn't offer private registration. Now what?
The company is Exabytes. Anyone know of a good reputable third party company that will shield the WHOIS information off the web?

It is expensive but... http://www.enom.com/ has great reputation. And if you want you can try http://www.namecheap.com/ too! they have a special promotion going where you get a free WhoisGUARD.

Domain Name Registration?
1. Is it safe to register my domain name with WebsitePalace.com? Have you have tried their services before? what can you say? 2. If the registration of a domain name expires - what happens to the domain name? What is domain name transfer? is it possible to transfer the domain name from current registrar to ANOTHER registrar even if it still within the subcription time? I have an existing domain name with another registrar, but this current registrar don't want to release the domain name so I can't register it with another registrar what should I do? If the domain name registration expires what will happen to the domain name? will I be able to use it? If expirty is the answer to getting my domain name back - how will I know that I can use the domain name again? where will I look to see that the domain name is available? 3. If I register my domain name with WebsitePalace.com will there be google ads appearing on my website? 4. What is private registration of domain name?

WebsitePalace.com appears to be a reseller for GoDaddy so you should be OK. If you are concerned deal directly with GoDaddy . If a domain name expires it goes through the expiration process and in about 65 days it becomes available again. Yes it's possible to transfer the domain name to another registrar. Read your terms of service with your current registrar and make sure you own the name. If it was a free name the registrar might have rights to it. If not, and you own the name they must provide you the information to transfer the name. If they refuse you can report them ICANN. As far as the Google ads it depends on how you develop your website. If you use a free hosting service there is probably going to be ads of some type. If you pay a couple bucks for hosting you won't have the ads. Private registration keeps your registration information private in the whois listings.
