Port Server

How to detect on which port X Server is running on a Windows Machine programatically?
I have a Windows Machine, I have to determine the port where X Server is running on that machine programatically. Links, Code Examples please

Windoze typically doesn't run X. If somebody has set up X emulation it'll be there but you have to connect through another protocol to talk to it. Download the source to putty and it'll show you how to do this through several protocols.

usb printer connecting to a parallel port print server?
I have a newer printer that's only got a usb connector. My slightly older wireless router has a print server and a parallel port. Ideally I'd like to have the printer available to any computer connecting to the network without having to use print sharing via a one computer that is always on. I don't think this is possible though since I can't find a connector that goes from a male usb to a parallel port. They seem to go the other way around.

No such converter available, however DLink make a nice little wireless/cat5 print server that works with USB. Fraid it's either that or share it off a PC.

i look for the smtp server and the port number to use at another soft ware?
i have a soft ware that ask me for smtp server and port number to enable me to send e-mails.

As far as knowing the name of the smtp server, I have no idea what yours would be. However, normally your ISP has an smtp server that you can use since you are using their service. To get the url or IP address of it you will need to contact them or get on their website and find it. The standard port number for smtp is 25. However, many times ISP's block this port, so if you are trying to get to a smtp server besides your ISP's you will probably have to use a different port or use their smtp server. Sometimes admins will setup port 587 as a secondary smtp port number so you could try this also.

Is it possible to reverse a print server? From the parralel port on a comtuter to a networked printer.?
I am attempting to use an already functional parrallel port on an old server to connect to a networked printer on the same intranet in a different building about 10 miles away which is connected wirelessly. Is this possible? I do not know how i would go about setting up a port in the unix software to do so directly. If that is possible it would simplify matters tremendously.

Yes it's possible. But not through parallel port. Actually u access a print server (remote printer) not through parallel port but through your TCP/IP network. U need to configure the print server (On the host to which the printer is connected) and the print client on your local host. I don't know which version of unix u r using. In Linux the current print system is CUPS which uses cupsd. CUPS also has a GUI interface for configuration. Previously it was lprng or lpd. Your message: Message: I am attempting to do the reverse of what you described. the unix server runs on a serial network, not a tcp/ip. I want to interface it with our tcp/ip network without having to do so directly. I want to reverse the functionality of a print server. I want it to accept print jobs coming in from a parralel port and forward them to an ip address. Any suggestions? My Answer: Sorry Can't be much helpful. You may check Linux HowTos. Possibly u need some special controller based hardware to do that. Hardware which interface PPP/SLIP to Ethernet. There are some PIC, 8051 based hardware. Just one thing I shall like to point out. If your localhost is on a serial network (PPP/SLIP), how can u receive print data through parallel (LPT) port ? Any data u receive over a serial network should be through one of the serial ports (COM1, COM2, USB). I don't think LPT support PPP/SLIP

How do i know what port to use for my proxy server?
ok so i am in the process of getting free internet on my phone. i already have my own proxy server made and all that. the only problem is that i don't know what port i should use for my proxy. i have already tried several different ports and none of them have worked. if anyone knows anything about this subject please help

This question is a bit confusing. If you have "made" your own proxy server (as you write) you should know the port number. If you are using third party proxy server and don't know the port try these first - 80, 1080, 3128, 8080. If these don't work you can possibly use a port scanner to scan for open ports on the system. some more info can help if you need a better answer

What is the server port for yahoo email. each time i try to respond to craigslist sale ad outlook pops up?
I dont use outlook for email but it keep poping up and i get no link to server message. any info will be welcomed.

It seems that there are a lot of people out there having the same problem lately. Just copy the email address from the ad and paste it directly into the email you are writing. This is much easier then trying to figure out server ports and pop ups. http://www.LiveSimon.com - The FREE Auction and Classified Community.

What is the Hotmail POP server name and port number?
I'm trying to sync up my Hotmail account with a newly-opened Gmail account. Everytime I try to add my Hotmail account, Gmail tells me that it cannot connect to Hotmail's server. It automatically fills in the server name as mail.hotmail.com, and the port number as 110. I'm starting to think this is incorrect. Does anyone have any alternate ideas?

i don't think hotmail has the POP function I tried this. Damn those hotmail ppl!
