Microsoft Server
Why am I unable to connect to the Microsoft server to activate windows?
I just built a new PC, but I am unable to connect to the Microsoft server to activate my legal copy of Windows XP. I can connect through the internet with my new built PC (I can surf web pages,) but I can't make a connection with the Microsoft server.
when I had to do it, I just called the number and drilled out the serial. It's tedious, but you don't have to go through a server or whatnot to do it.
Is there a migration guide for separating the SQL Server from a Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 server?
We have a Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 Standard Server installed together with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on the same machine. Right now, we already outgrow the server and need to move the SQL Server out to a separate machine, is there a best practices and/or migration guide that someone has written that illustrates the detailed steps to go about doing so. For example, can the configuration database and the content database move together? Or do we need to have the configuration database still in the same server as Sharepoint 2007?
Try Microsoft KB Article 894164 for starters. It was written for 2003, but makes total sense.
How to I set up my linux computer to access a microsoft exchange server?
I am using Fedora and am unable to figure out how set up my evolution e-mail program with the microsoft exchange server at work can anyone help me? In the past I have set it up for accessing a POP server but can't figure this problem out :-(
I look forward to your replies.
Thanks in advance
Andy
I'm guessing you are at home and trying to access the work's email server? Have you done this before with an MS computer? Is the server behind a firewall or Virtual Private Network (VPN) which prevents external access oe only allows restricted access? Will your boss let you take your PC into work to set it up there (under the auspices of the IT department. I bet they're all geeks who like a challenge. Never met an IT dept that wasn't)? Do you actually know the company's email server's name (it might not be pop.companyname.com)?
So many questions in return but we need more info with which to give you proper help.
how do I start using Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for the first time ever?
I am a small business and I recently acquired Microsoft Windows Server 2003. We chose this over Small Business Server in order to gain experience. What is a great web site for a newbie user of this server software? Thanks
follow the instruction from this link:
http://www.netfaqs.com/windows/Mail/Outlook/2003/New/index.asp
email address and username should be the same and that should be provided by your email provider.. so with your password... you shoul also ask for incoming and outgoing server from them..
Is there a way to have a Linux email server and a Microsoft web server on the same machine?
I really like the Linux email server, but also want the simplicity of a Microsoft web server. If not, any suggestions? Cost is a factor. Its for a small office.
Absolutely...I have a setup similar to that.
Use VmWare Server:
http://www.vmware.com/products/free_virtualization.html
It's free... It allows you to have 'virtual machines' which is great technology.
I have a server that I built and have Windows Server installed and it's hosting a website. I have a virtual machine that is running Linux. It's a machine in a machine.
The only thing to keep in mind is to get plenty of RAM. I wouldn't go under a Gig of RAM as a bare minimum.
Can anyone help me open Outlook? How do I find my Microsoft Exchange Server?
When I open Outlook, a dialog box appears asking for my Microsoft Exchange server and mailbox. How do I find that information?
I'm working on my home computer.
Are you trying to use Outlook on your company's network, or are you trying to connect to your internet email account? If the former, most likely you'll need to contact your help desk or network administrator for information on how to connect to the Exchange server. If the latter, you most likely won't need to connect to an Exchange server but instead an external email server via the POP3 or IMAP protocol.
How do I setup Outlook at home with a "Microsoft Exchange Server" at work?
My employer uses an e-mail system based on Microsoft Exchange Server. We have access to our e-mail while at home through "Outlook Web Access." However, functionality is limited and I would love to set it up right through [normal] Outlook at home. Is there any way to do this?
The only way you can check you company's exchange server is if the server has an outside IP address and you know it, or if you company has the software/hardware to create a VPN tunnel through their firewall so it makes your computer virtually part of their network. Then you can set your outook to talk to the server with its internal IP.
Either way, you have to talk to your company's IT department and ask permission and get information on how to do it.
How do i connect to server on Microsoft SQL Server 2005?
I have just installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005. When I start the Server Management Studio, it displays a "Connect to Server" dialog box. I have tried my best to connect to the serevr, but i dont know which server the programming is asking to connect to. I am assuming it's a local server that is set up on my machine since the setup required me to install Windows IIS, but i have no idea how to connect to it.
I tried using all the options available at the "Connect to Server" dialog, but i am still unable to connect to a server. What should I do? I am frustrated and i need to use this software pronto, since i have assignments and deadlines to complete for my Enterprise Computing course.
When you installed SQL 2005, did you make sure to set up the local database? When installing, you can install the client tools only... or server and client. You want server and client.
In doing so, it will create a local DB for you. When you open up the SQL Express window, you can then connect to the local DB.
Why do I get the message that my Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable?
When I boot my computer I get the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable. This has just started to show up. Do I need it? If not how do I keep the message from popping up each time i boot up?
The Microsoft Exchange Server applies to Microsoft Outlook. If you don't use Outlook or Outlook express for your email then you need to disable it.
1. Go to Run
2. Type msconfig
3. Click on startup
4. Find the Outlook box and UNCHECK it
5. Click ok and exit with or without restart.
If you never plan on using it then you can go to:
1. Control Panel
2. Add/Remove programs
3. Find Outlook Express
4. Delete it
How to learn Microsoft SQL Server 2005(or Express Edition)?
I already know SQL using MySQL. Now, I am planning to learn Microsoft SQL Server 2005 which has more demand. Can you recommend a good book or website?. By the way, do you know how to get Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for free?
1. Try SQL Exercises:

2. Download 2005 Express from here:
