Hosting Company

hosting company?
always looking for good hosting deals. What website hosting company would you recommend? As a webmaster, I would NOT recommend bluehost or 1and1. Bluehost has pretty good customer service time, but have found them to not really have much knowledge, and there are too many little kinks in their system. 1and1.com has the worst customer service I have ever seen in any company - be it hosting or not hosting. futurequest is the best hosting company and service..but their prices are too high for too little disk space. so..who do you suggest?

Try http://www.netivo.com - I use them, tehy are pretty good, but also cheap.

How do you find what company is hosting a website?
I'm trying to find the host of this website that scammed me. Does anyone know how I can find out who the hosting company is? I already know the site owner - they are in China and don't speak english.

Try this: 1. Start by doing a Whois search to obtain the IP address of the website. e.g. mywebsite.com. http://whois.domaintools.com/ 2. When the search information comes up, look under Server Data and take note of the IP address e.g. 68.142.197.64. Now, do a search for the IP address using this link: http://www.apnic.net/ (Note that this url is specific for searching IP addresses based in Asia and the Pacific region. If the server is located in another country, you'll need to search from a different site). If all goes to plan, you should see the company listed within the search results. ------------------- Note: In step 1, some search results don't provide the IP address required for a variety of reasons. If this is the case with your site, scroll down to where it says 'Registrant's agent' - the name listed is usually the hosting company.

Who handles Subdomains, the registrar or the hosting company?
I want to have multiple subdomains for my website. The domain registrar I am planning on using says they allow up to 5 subdomains. Since I need more subdomains than five, I contacted a hosting company. They stated that subdomains are folders inside the htdocs folder and all I need to do is create folders with root access. So who controls the subdomains, the domain registrar or my hosting company (with root access).

Your hosting company gave you the correct answer. You just have to create subfolders under your root folder. It has nothing to do with your registrar.

I transferred my website to a new hosting company. How can I transfer the mysql database?
I transferred the hosting of my website from a company called Velnet because they refuse to answer any messages or emails. When I tried to upload the site to the new hosts I got an error message that my new hosts (fasthosts) informed me I needed to get the mysql database from my old hosts. Velnet will not answer any corresspondance or agree to take the hosting back so my website is completely useless. Who owns the mysql database and how can I force my old hosts to cooperate with me ?

You own the MySQL database however it's stuc on the old server - It's probably been deleted by now. You should of checked out the documentation at MySQL.org - They can tell you about these things. Also you should of looked in the control panel at your old host - many will have back-up utility which will let you download everything including the databases. Sounds like it's probably too late now - Sorry

What is a good web hosting company for an e-commerce business?
We have an e-commerce business an are not happy with the current web-hosting company. I am interested in finding a user friendly web hosting company that provides their own web building ware (online or download). There are thousands of products, so need unlimited pages/products/storage. Currently using PayPal Web Pro as our gateway. If you need more info, just ask & I will edit.

Check out http://www.asmallorange.com Good support, excellent control panel, very reasonable price, a variety of plans one of which should suit your needs (I used the teensiest plan and never ran into any barriers, but, then, I have a peeyuunee website with only 200 pages and 2500 graphics)

Which is the best inexpensive hosting company for an e-commerce website?
I want to open an online store to sell stuff. I don't know which hosting and publishing company to go with. I don't want to spend a lot of money either. From a programmer point of view, which hosting company is good. I wanted to sign up with stores online but i heard its not Google friendly and is too expensive. Please share!

Don't go with Godaddy Go with a host that has cpanel. Cpanel features a group of 1 click install scripts called fantastico. One of the 1 click installs is something called Zen Cart - but there are many others Web hosting Buzz is one of the cheapest that has it Here is a list of hosts that feature fantastico: http://www.samwilson3d.com (right side menu) compare them. Samwilson3d is also in inexpensive web design service, they designed 3 of my websites (look here at my latest : http://www.signaturecowboy.com )

What skills are needed to operate a web hosting company ?
I am interesting in buying an existing web hosting company , do I need to have expert knowledge of computer programming ? If so , where can this be outsourced ?

The skills required depend on the type of application you plan to host. If you plan to host a LAMP (Linux / PHP) then some knowledge of those products would be very useful, if not mandatory. If you choose to do Windows .NET hosting you may want to get your MSCE, and other such certifications. I would recommend that you familiarize yourself with how a hosting company operates, as you will need some business skills, marketing skills, as well as some negotiation skills. This all assumes that you plan to build a bricks and mortar hosting company. If you plan to simply outsource, then you need some analytical skills, and social networking skills or connections. You should analyze the company you are planning to buy, and determine what technologies are in use, and what the clients want / use.

Is it possible to construct a php script to only work with a specific web hosting company?
I'm trying to a find a web hosting company besides the one that the company recommends because they charge too much. And so far, I learned the hard way that Yahoo does not support it. What do I need to look for?

Hello, What is the name of this script? The PHP script most likely can be used anywhere just the programmer suggests a company he deals with. You can check out http://jm-webhosting.com

Anyone know of a good Java web hosting company?

What will happen if your web hosting company goes burst?
I want to have the own domain for my blog, so I plan to use a webhosting company like bluehost. However, I wonder what will happen to my blog, if one day the hosting company doesn't function anymore. Will I lose all my entries?

If the hosting company is experiencing server maintenance, you may not be able to access your blog for a stipulated time. However, if your hosting company gets busted, then you will lose all your entries. It is advisable to make a backup of all your posts once in while. If you're going to make your site primarily a blog, then I personally recommend Wordpress. Check with your host's site what they provide before signing up. Most hosts come with Wordpress included. You just need to do a simple configuration to get it started once you get the host. All about Wordpress here at http://wordpress.org/ If you use Wordpress, it has a function built in where it will allow you to make a full backup of your blog and convert it to something like a XML file. If you have a last known copy of this backup file made, if one day your hosting server dies on you, you can easily get a new host and just import this file and all the saved entries will be retained. Hope that answers your question. Since you're on the topic of hosting, Bluehost is good but Hostgator is where I'd look at. If you visit their site at http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=bloodbro6 and choose the Baby plan and enter the coupon code 'jury' without the codes, you will only pay $0.01 for the first month and thereafter $7.95 a month. They offer 600GB space and 6000GB bandwidth. It comes with the standard cPanel and Fantastico where you can install your secure store, discussion boards, blogs, emails, etc. Good luck on your blog!
