How can I find volunteers to host exchange students in their home?
Two other partners and I started a small, non-profit exchange student program a couple of years ago called Peace4Kids (www.peace4kids.net). We bring high school kids to the US to live with host families and go to public schools. We mostly place students in the greater El Paso, TX area, but also have some placed in Arkansas, California and Ohio. The State Department requires that host families be volunteer (we can't pay them), but it is getting harder and harder to find families to open their home for a school year or semester. Does anyone have any fabulous ideas on how we can find people to host an exchange student? It really is a great experience--I know, I've hosted and I've been an exchange student! The school year is fast approaching and we have some terrific kids from several different countries (all of whom speak English.)
I would suggest that you consider partnering with some of the local volunteer centers in all areas. They are the ones that can help you with marketing, as they have the connections to all of the volunteers in the local communities.
Here are some links to help you get started:

By listing your agency in the local volunteer centers, they can all help you with referrals.
What types of clown fish would host in a long purple tentacle anemone?
I want to find a nice clown fish that has a high possibility of hosting in a long purple tentacle anemone.I want any species that will most likely or will host.List them please. Is there a high chance for an ocellaris clown fish pair to host inside?
its possible, but there is never a guarantee. alot of clowns are tank raised and they never knew anything about hosting an anemone. it is not necessary for their survival, and there is no guarantee that any clown will host anything. I heard of clowns hosting anemones, frogspawn, hammer coral, and even power heads! lol. good luck though!
How to host a community backyard Wiffleball Tournament?
We would like to host a community backyard type Wiffleball tournament, can anyone make any suggestions, as how to get started? Advice would greatly be appreciated. Thank you and have a great day!
I live in a small enclosed community. All it takes is advertising to find out the interest. It helps if you have a small group of helpers and make sure everyone knows the rules.
How much to tip a host at a Las Vegas club for table service?
How much should you tip the guy that you make the reservation with, meets you at the door, and seats you? Not a VIP host associated with a VIP service, but the host that actually works for the club. I've heard $100 per every 3 people in your group.
That's a tough one. If the guy really took your reservation, $100 would probably be about right. If the guy didn't take your reservation and just walked you to your table, I'd only tip them $20-$40.
FYI, all the clubs at The Palms (Playboy, Moon, Rain, Ghostbar) have their VIP tables booked through a central reservation with the Ninegroup. Whereas, most other clubs you have to book your table through an overbearing VIP host who will try and upsell you and make you feel like they're doing you some big favor by letting you come to their stupid club to spend $400 per bottle, so they can get a big tip. Therefore, I usually go the clubs at The Palms because we feel less obligated to tip the guy that walks us to our table because he didn't actually take our reservation.
If you're not thrilled about tipping this guy, I would just cancel your reservation and go to Moon at The Palms. It's not as though VIP hosts provide any useful service to society seeing that The Palms has already found a way to make them obsolete. Put it this way, you don't tip the phone operator who took your hotel reservation, why should you tip a guy who took your reservation at a nightclub?

How to host custom games on Warcraft 3 on the internet?
I have tried to host but no one joins (not casue its a bad game or anything like that) and i really want to be host, how can i do this?
1) Make sure your firewall isn't stopping incoming requests. Hard to tell you exactly what to do without knowing your OS (XP, Vista, Linux, ect..).
2)Open ports 6112-6119 on your router.
If you want specifics, give me your OS and router make and model.
I want to host a huge party, but I live in an apartment complex ?
I want to host a huge party since I am finishing my PhD and moving out of AZ for good. But, and this is critical, I live in an apartment complex with a lot of families around and I have seen cops being called for so much as when I am talking with my friends in the patio.
Now, what are my options as to hosting a big party. Looks like there will be around 40 - 50 people (or more). It will be a kegger and I think I iwll get a DJ too so it will be noisy. But I am not sure how to go about it. Any ideas ?
Could anyone also tell me a cost estimate of renting a hall or a lawn for such a party.
well, congratulations!
if you want to have it at your complex and are concerned that your neighbors will call the cops, invite your neighbors...they will be happy they were invited and less likely to call the cops....9 times out of 10, your neighbors won't show up anyway.
or let your neighbors know that you are having a party and tell them that you know that noise is an issue, but you will do your best to keep it down...that way you, can kinda feel them out and get a sense if they might call the cops or not...
or you can have it at someone else's place, a hall, a park, a restaurant, a local bar or a local club..your college might even have a space to rent at a reasonable rate.....if you just tell people that you are going to be hanging out at a bar/club to celebrate, you won't have to worry about buying food/beer or about cleaning up after....
good luck
Where can I host my blog and make money from advertisers?
Where can I host my blog, preferably for free and easy to use, where if it becomes popular I can get paid by advertisers? If I use a free web host can I get paid advertising? Specific websites would be helpful.
The trouble with the "free" blogging sites is that they're ads will always interfere or conflict with yours.
It gets worse if the ads they're serving are from the same provider. For example, if you've got a Google AdSense account, you cannot have ads associated with two different publisher accounts on the same page. Doing so could get your account banned.
Bottom line... the least expensive hosting (in terms of monthly cost) will come when you're willing to pay for a full year in advance (typically, those that are less than $10). At the $10 a month level, you can pay one month at a time. Okay, here's a step-by step. (But for an alternate idea, skip down to after step 7.
(1) Sign up for a web hosting plan that offers cPanel (a web based control panel) and Fantastico (an automated application installer). The one most popular with my clients is HostGator...
http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=kbrune
(2) Log into your account's cPanel, click on Fantastico, select and install the Drupal content management system with a few mouse clicks -- Yeah, I know, it's not the best-known in terms of bloggers -- but it's the best when it comes to automating your add revenue, and it has some very powerful blogging features.
(3) Spend some time configuring the site, picking a theme, add a several blog entries so there's some content. Encourage friends to sign up as registered users and add some comments. Make sure there is some CONTENT, in other words... then apply for Google AdSense, here...
http://www.google.com/adsense
(4) While you're waiting for your AdSense account to get approved, install Drupal's AdSense module onto your site. It's available here...
http://drupal.org/project/adsense
(5) Configure the AdSense module to show the ads in strategic places, and configure the ad colors to be aesthetically pleasing to match the theme colors you chose previously (you'll get the best click ratios if the ads seem to blend into the background of the page).
(6) Go to the Clean URLs page under the Site Configuration section of the Admin menu, and enable this feature (it's off by default).
(7) Go to the Modules section of your site, under the Admin menu, and make sure that the Paths module is enabled (it isn't, by default). This will allow you to specify the exact URL path that will be associated with a specific blog entry... and key words for your topic in the URL is the most important place that Google will look, when trying to decide which ads are most appropriate for any given page... and more on-target ads means more clicks, which means more money. There is also a module that will automatically construct the URL for you, from your blog entry's title...
http://drupal.org/project/pathauto
A final thought... if you don't want to dive into the deep end of the pool of website ownership just yet, you're welcome to give all this a try on a site I'm developing right NOW using the steps I've just outlined.
Every registered user gets their own blog, and I'm making use of another feature of Drupal's AdSense module... revenue sharing. In other words, every time a page (blog entry or otherwise) is displayed, 80% of the time, the AdSense ID that is used for the ad will be that of the author of the page. The other 20% of the time it's my ID, for being the site owner. Here's the link...

How do you host down loadable files on the Internet without a website or with a free website?
I need to host files i'm selling on auction websites but i'm afraid to use sites like rapidshare, are there any alternatives or a site that's more reliable but doesnt charge a whole lot to host?
The cheap way would be use IIs in XP Pro to run a web server from your DSL or cable connection.
Here are some resources to assist you
http://www.DSLwebserver.com
http://www.PortForward.com/
This one will allow you to host a site from a dynamic IP address
http://www.NO-IP.com
You can do this for free. I would use an old P-II or P-III 450Mhz computer with 256mb of RAM or more, just because they are so cheap.
Check your ISP's TOS (Terms of Service) to make sure you are allow to run a server.
