Free Web Hosts
What do free web hosts gain from offering free web hosting??
I've been to free web hosting sites like Awardspace, Free Hostia, Jaywebdesigns and Bytehost. I was just wondering what sites like these gain from offering free webhosting?
You can look up their features in http://www.free-webhosts.com . That's where I usually look for free hosting.
I can't help but wonder why they offer their free hosting at all.
I have a few answeres in my mind too like:
* them offering to attract more customers to their paid hosting (free hostia and awardspace)
* getting more traffic to their site (jaywebdesigns and bytehost)
But tendency is, I don't really mind any of the following reasons above. And I don't really intend on upgrading my plan any time soon.
Btw, the sites above don't put ads all over your site and does not require forum posting. I recommend them too.
Sorry for being a person pointing at the obvious but I was asked by someone this question kanina eh and I didn't know what to say.
So, can anyone please explain this to me?
Usually, the free web hosting services will earn by placing advertisements in the pages developed by you. The hosting service earns money when ever your pages are surfed by the end users.
Also the free web hosting offers only limited features like limited size or bandwidth usage etc, tempting the web site developer to go for premium service.
is there a catch on the free web hosts?
I need a web host that offers about 100 megs of space. my friend recommended that I use 1 & 1 but I dont want to spend any money on it so I want to know if I should get a free host or buy one.
I am 14 and I just want to make a sit for fun but useful to other people.
what is bandwidth
Free web hosts can suffer from any and all of the following problems:
- Poor reliability, for example your site can go offline sporadically and you can't really complain,
- Embedded advertising which you can't or aren't allowed to remove, and you make no money from,
- Slow connections to the internet
- Zero support or service
- No backups or low-quality backups
Basically, you get what you pay for.
I agree with a previous answerer on Dreamhost. The web host I have used for several projects is Dreamhost ( http://www.dreamhost.com ). You can host as many domains on one account as you want for no extra charge, and all domain name registrations include private registration (which I recommend so your personal info is kept out of WHOIS) for less than $10/name. There's even a 10% discount code you can use when you sign up that I used: SUPER8.
Any good FREE web hosts with php5, sql databases and ftp?
Are there any good, free, web hosts which offer PHP5, MySQL databases and FTP account(s)... besides X10Hosting and 000Webhost.
Oh and, I don't like VistaPanel. :(

No way to contact Freewebs. Can't log in ...Free web hosts ...?
I have a site with Freewebs but can't log in, just get the waiting screen for hours, they have no contact us button on the home/login page so can't get any feedback on what is going on.
Please recommend the best free hosts to get my small business site up and running ... preferably with a sitebuilder ... thanks ...
I think fateback.com is good, not sure on if they have a sitebuilder.
Umm... I'd avoid Piczo at all costs, people
generally don't like it (professionally).
Try geocities.com too.
I think Angeltowns stopped offering free hosting :/.
Maybe try making a new Freewebs site,
Freewebs are brilliant imo (in my opinion).
Do you know of any free web hosts that gives you the choice of using html?
- choice of using html of the entire site
- if possible, a URL that's something like "yoursitename.hostname.com" but not "hostname.com/yoursitename"
- I'm fine with having adverts, preferrably google adverts though.
- I don't need tons and tons of space
- it has to be free
Is angelfire any good? I've heard of it but apparantly it's a very crummy host, is this true?
I know about geocities and freewebs, but I'd like to see if there are better ones.
