Where can I get an absolutely free domain name?
Every time I click on a link that says "Free domain name," it either means no weekly/monthly/etc. fee or no one-time fee at the beginning, but never both. I need something with absolutely no fees. Oh, and I don't really care about ads. If it's free, I'll go with it.

sorry, no such thing. i've tried whole nights trying to look for just that... nope. free just doesn't exist for completely custom domain names.

It can't be done. What you need to do is register a new domain name that is shorter, then move your website to the new domain. Or just use the domain name to automatically forward to your existing site. I mean the kind when you just register a domain name for free without any other offers. I don't want to have to sign-up for anything else that I have to pay for. What I mean by domain is the something like the following: www.example.com instead of www.something.com/example

Nope Domains cost $6.00 US per year. That is the fee that the registrar has to pay INternic for the name. Internic manages the international domain name database. Internic is run by ICANN which is the governing body. So you can't get a name for free. The best you can do is register it with someone like Godaddy which will cost you $*.99 per year for the name. GoDaddy has to then pay $6.00 per year to ICANN for the name. If there is an offer for a name for free, then there is some kind of catch.

ICANN (the company that gives them) doesn't give them away for free, so anyone who gives you one for free is getting something in return - like $10/month for $4 worth of hosting. A domain name only costs a few dollars a year, so don't get suckered into paying tens or hundreds of dollars for it. (Microsoft gives you free hosting and a free domain name - they pay for it - for a limited time. then you have to pay or you lose the domain name.)

In order to your a domain name in the Internet it has to be registered with InterNIC. They charge a small fee for this and thus 99.9% of all domain registration sites charge a fee. The best you could do is to have a static IP for your site and then use that as the domain name for access. Even that requires some cost for the hosting.

Yes, but usually they have extremely low bandwidth and the domain has something like "yahoo" in front of it. If you want a website like www.[yourbusiness].com then you will have to pay quite a bit. Plus you need to get the appropriate bandwidth as it can be expensive.
