Domain Hosting
Domain & Hosting?
Hello,
i have registred my domain name with netfirms.ca and then i got my hosting from godaddy.com
godaddy said i need to update my DNS numbers with theirs.. i went to my netfirms account and updated DNS..
when i type my domain name address it still opens my netfirms (free hosting) page..
question #1: how long does it take for DNS to update so it points to my godaddy account.
question #2: anyone familiar with godaddy, in control pannels.. it says domain name: and then Server IP Address-whats that ip address that it shows me?
question #3: anyone familiar with godaddy.com, in DNS control is says:
A(Host)
Host: @ points to xx.xxx.xxx.xx
whats that @ symbol? do i need to change it?
in cnames(aliases)
www points to @
do i need to change that? or leave it all at defaults.
question #4: anyone familiar with netfirms.ca, in domains manager i can forward my domain to a different location. for now it points to my netfirms.. should i change that to godaddy? IP?
Once you enter the DNS1 and DNS2 addresses to the Godaddy address, it takes about 48 hours before the switch takes place.

How do I delete my Dotster domain hosting account?
About a year ago I purchased a domain name from Dotster, and I've been super dissatisfied with them ever since. Now that the domain seems to be expired (it's not showing up under my account name), I want to delete the account. However, I can't find any direction as to how to do that.
Can anyone help me out here?? I really don't want them to have my personal information, especially now that I have no need of their services.
I had the same problem with another host several years ago.
I had to actually submit a support ticket to them to delete the account.
Currently I have sites hosted at hostgator, pretty worry free to this point.
What domain hosting site can you recommend as a great value for a family website?
Preferably Australian. I want something that holds at least a couple of Gigs and that can also offer domain name registration.
I'll just add that I'm not interested in geocities, angelfire, tripod etc.
Hi! The most important thing is to never never register a domain through your hosting company. They can then use that to blackmail you to stay on their hosting if there is a problem, you want to register a domain and keep control of it, so register a domain at enom.com or godaddy.com and then just update the DNS servers to point to your host. It is easy to do.
For a nice cheap Australian hosting company you might try
http://www.valuehosting.com.au/
or
http://ausweb.com.au/
But i haven't tried either of those personally.
How to forward a domain to Yahoo hosting?
I have a hosting at yahoo and would like to FWD another domain to the same hosting. Just FWD it since there is a domain already there but how hard I try it is not working, kindly help.
In order to park a domain on top of another, you must change the name server pointers associated with the domain name to Yahoo's name servers. Then you must configure the Yahoo server to point the "other domain" to the yahoo hosted domain.
