Domain Hosting Australia
I want hosting for my domain, does it make adifference where it is hosted.?
I'm in the UK but have found cheap hosting in Australia.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages with a host in Australia?
As far as the location of the hosting company goes, it can be in Greenland for all you care. It's not as if you'll be required to go there.
You should first of all check the reliability of the hosting company. How much help is offered when you need it, how the uptime is (99.9999% - no one can guarantee 100%)...
Help with Domain Names and Hosting!?
I am looking for a good reliable Domain Name Registry and a Hosting Service. I want to start a small site in the next couple of weeks and have heard that you shouldn't go with the same Domain Registry and Hosting Company. I am from Australia so I wouldn't have minded an Australian Company (so that I can call them etc) but couldn't find any that looked legitimate. I have been recommended GoDaddy but was hoping someone who has used them (maybe from Australia too could tell me if they are ok). Also if anyone has tried any really good Australian ones, please let me know. I use to know a lot more good Domain and Hosting sites (but my computer crashed and I lost all my favourites) so all I can think of is GoDaddy and something with the word Monster in it.
I would really appreciate your help! Any recommendations or suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
I have 77 domain names with GoDaddy only because supercheap coupons are all over the web like at http://www.retailmenot.com otherwise I wouldn't give GoDaddy 2 blinks. The site is not user friendly, has some pretty annoying quirks and you must do everything manually.
Ironically, I find the paypal feature on GoDaddy to the only real upfront, automatic feature. Figures. I solved that by redirecting all my domains to my current host, Hostmonster. I wrote un unbiased review about Hostmonster: http://dubaitechs.com
...a godaddy review is in the works.
It's a rule of thumb to not go with the cheapest out of fear of getting what you pay for. But GoDaddy is #1 as far as popularity and with the encouragement of using coupon codes, I find it extremely affordable. If you've never heard of a company, don't register with them.
As far as registry and hosting, each company has it's own features in both areas. GoDaddy is an great registrar but they suck at hosting. Hostmonster is a great host but their registration is very low. That's only due to a lack of marketing.
Hope it helps.
Is web ranking related to changing web hosting?
Hi,
I am the webmaster for a website selling clothing. My website is end with .com but my domain name is hosted by an Australian Host and my business is based in Australia. I currently have web site hosting with an Australian hosting company (this company is different with the domain hosting Co.) , because the server is often down at weekend so I plan to switch my webhosting to Hostgator hosting company in USA.
If I change my Web hosting to USA (but still keep domain hosting in Australia) it means I will have to change my IP address to a new IP address. My question is:
Will my website ranking drop when I have the new IP address/ Hosting from another country?
At the moment, my website is on the 1 st page of Google.com.au; Yahoo.com.au for a number of keywords and I would not like to see my website ranking drop on those.
I have also targeted customers in north America and Europe
I look forward to your answer, especially from SEO experts
Many thanks in advance
Cindy
The answer to your question is that there should be no change in ranking as a result of changing hosting. Here is a 'how to' from Matt Cutts (Google Engineer) http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/moving-to-a-new-web-host/
What things do i need to start an e commerce website in Australia?

I am in Australia.I want to obtain a Domain name for a website. Do I have to have a business?
I read somewhere that I can apply for a domain name for my website only if I have a business. I simply want to pay for a domain name for a simple website.I want to host that website with my own server. I was told that I can apply for a "fixed IP address" instead of a domain name. But I really want to have a domain name. So...do I really have to have a registered business? Also, is there a reputable Australian company that I should apply my domain name from? Thanks you for any answers.
Anyone can purchase a domain name for any reason and virtually any use, i.e. you can't sell pot in the US via the web. You can also purchase a domain name from ANY company anywhere in the world. So, look for the best deals. I believe Yahoo lets you purchase your first domain name for only $1.99 US dollars. But, you can use anyone. Good luck!
Is there a Office Live Basics for Australia?
I'm wondering, is there a special Office Live Basics, or similar, for those in Australia?
I'm starting my own graphic design website and was wondering for a free domain name + hosting type thing.
you might want to contact microsoft for this sort of question....and in my opinion there should be...
Am I allowed to have movies posters on my (for profit) website?
I am about to create a new website which, when finished will contain movie reviews and information. I'd like to also display movie posters, but because I am planning to have advertising on their I am not sure If I am allowed.
The ads will first pay for any webhost/domain fees while the rest will go to me, to profit from. I am just wondering If I am allowed to do this by law, and if so, will I need to include some sort of disclaimer similar to Wikipedia's?
I live in Australia, but its likely to be hosted in the US if that is of any help.
Thanks in Advance,
- Garion
This is interesting...
I think that you would have a right to display a picture of something that you are discussing... I say do it!
-
If someone gets upset, you will recieve a "cease and desist" notification, telling you to remove the content.
-
Then you might consider removing it, but donot over-analyze it. Just do it.
-
-
There is a rule of thumb that I am begining to see. Please consider this.
-
Everytime I try to do "something" I worry about if I am "allowed to" do it. So I SEARCH for Answers! Often I find none.
-
Example...
-
I wanted to start a Taxi Business in a small town a few years back. I called everyone, and I mean EVERYONE! to find the proper avenu to go down. I got NO ANSWEERS. Everybody just said try this number, or that number, etc...
-
I called:
1. Town Hall
2. Insurance Companies (from ALL AROUND the USA)
3. The local Sherrifs office
All I got was a bunch of "I dont know's" and the Town Hall sent me a CD ROM and a stack of papers that just said report my income and pay my Taxes. lol
-
NOBODY could tell me the "proper" way to do it!
-
So six years later, a million questions later, and you question... I say this:
-
If nobody knows the way we are supposed to do it, and noone can tell us the laws, then who is going to tell us we are doing it wrong?
-
DO IT! thats the only way you will ever know if you do something wrong.
-
Just Do it!
Is there any benefit to using a website hosting company whose server is based in your own country?
I am currently researching web hosting, because I plan to build some websites for my wife's business. I am based in Australia, but am considering using US-based hosting, as it seems to offer much better value-for-money than any local hosting.
Are there any reasons for Australian hosting companies to charge more? Are there any benefits in using an Australian hosting company? Are there any disadvantages to using a US hosting company, in particular GoDaddy?
In particular, I am keen to know whether my wife's sites will show on Google and Yahoo! if I use a US hosting company but users click "Australian sites only"? Her domains end in either .com, .net or .info.
>Are there any reasons for Australian hosting companies to charge more?
Yes, it's the lack of competition. :)
There are absolutely no disadvantages of using some US host. Search engines (like google) are indexing websites based on keywords and links, and not location of a server. Some SEO's will tell you that it's a factor, but it's not really. Majority of websites from all over the world are hosted in the US for a reason. Of course the sites will show on Google and Yahoo.
About Godaddy, don't use them for hosting, they're not really good. I don't even use them for domains anymore (switched to Namecheap). Also don't use 1and1, their support is the worst.
I host my sites on Media Temple (plans start from $20 - they're great) and Dreamhost (about $10 - also great if you need something cheaper).
how does google recognise which country a website comes from?
For instance, when I search for google results with the button 'pages from Australia' ... then only Australian results show... however its not based on the url (i.e. .com.au) because some .com's show up as well... so is it the hosting company's location, or is it the domain registration country?
The ISP location.
Yahoo qmail message - what does it mean please?
When trying to email my daughter's company I get the response below after 24 hours when sending to any email address on their company domain. They don't get the email. This only happens when sending from any email accounts on btinternet.com or Yahoo mail addresses. No problem sending from Google mail. This has only started happening since the end of last week - can anyone shed any light please? (I've replaced the email address with xxx in the qmail message below for privacy - the domain is in Australia.)
Thanks
Terry

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.
Yahoo and IE seem to be incompatible right now at medium to high cookie settings. You may access Yahoo Mail with a different browser, such as Firefox. Just type yahoo.mail.com in the address bar. I am able to get through with Firefox, and I hope you can too.
Or, you can set your cookies at the lowest possible setting, and that should work too. It pisses me off to have to do this, but at least it will help you get your emails if you are browsing with Internet Explorer. You can always reset your cookies after accessing your email.
