Modify Windows DNS Sever after a LAN IP change?
Is there anything I need to do with my DNS server after I change the internal LAN from 192.168.1.X to 192.168.(2-254).X or will it automatically remap everything? If so, could some one provide me with either a link or step by step instructions on how to make sure I'm doing it right? THANKS!
That is going to depend on how you have your machines set up. If they are set up to automatically register their IP's with DNS, you should be fine. If not, then you will need to do it. By default, all DHCP clients do this, so they are probably fine. Machines using static IP's should do it as well, but I have often seen them set so they didn't, so it is probably worth double-checking.
I would also advise double-checking the domain-related DNS entries (I'm assuming this is in a domain). The forward lookup zones for the domain zone should contain A records for the domain itself pointing to the domain controllers. I have seen instances where changes to the DC IP's do not get carried over to the DNS server, which would cause lots of problems for you.
Also probably wouldn't hurt to make sure you flush the DNS cache on your machines as you are changing the IP's. Especially on the servers.
how do you find out what your DNS sever is?
I NEED TO NO WHAT MY DNS SEVER IS
Click start, then run. Type CMD and press enter. You will see a black box with a blinking cursor. Type ipconfig /all and press enter. Look toward the bottom of the info that appears, and you will see the ip address of your DNS server.
when i try to connect my ps3 to my pc to get the internet via a ethernet cable it says dns sever error help?
You need to put an ethernet switch or router in between the modem , ps3 and computer. You cant use a plain ethernet cable.Even if you are going to use your dial-up on the computer you still need a switch
What is a DNS Sever? how can i find this 'number' on my computer?
any help configuring wifi on ipod touch. please do not refer me to apple. they have been helpless
DNS stands for Domain Name Server. It's main function is to convert friendly text-based domain names (e.g. yahoo.com) into the numeric IP addresses (e.g. 66.94.234.13) which are used within the network.
The DNS Server address is often supplied along with the IP address when doing DHCP (automatic IP address assignment). However, if you are doing static IP address assignment where you manually configure the IP address of the device you will also need to do this for DNS.
If you have a Windows PC on the network you want to connect to, at a command prompt (Start/Run type "cmd" then enter) type "ipconfig /all". That will show you the DNS Server IP address.
You can also configure the following OpenDNS IP address which should be accessible as long as you have internet access (i.e. you're not just connecting to a private network).

Hope that helps.
How could I install Apache 2.0 in windows XP if I don't have a DNS sever?
In the installation it asks for DNS server name, Server name, email address etc. which I have not. So how could I install it without giving the server's name?
These fields don't really affect how the HTTPd works, as far as I know. All I've ever seen them used for are for automatic footers in directory listings and when returning error pages (i.e: Apache HTTP Server running on [server name], for more information about this error contact [email address]).
For DNS server name and server name you can just "name" your server/computer whatever you like, or if you can't think of anything just use something like "localhost" for both. If you don't want to use your Email address, just use something non-existant like "webmaster@localhost".
And if you get something like a dyndns.org account later you can always change these things in httpd.conf after install.
How do I find the DNS sever host name on a network I can't really mess with.?
I'm staying with some family for the holidays and they have their own wireless network with a WEP key. I talked to my aunt a I got he key and that worked fine. My laptop and my iPod connected to it, and everythingj seemed peachy. Problem is that whb I try tobias my laptop, it tells me that it can't find the DNS server hostname. My iPod works fine, and I'm posting this here from my iPod (sorry for any grammatical errors and misspellings) so I know the wifi works. How do I by my laptop working? Also, sorry if this question has been asked before, navigating Internet isn't exactly a party from the iPod, and it's easier to just ask.
Tobias means "to use"... >__> sorry, ipod tries to correct perfectly fine words with random ones
@ozzy thanks for the easy to understand walkthrough, I'll try it tomorrow, I can't do it right now, she'll think I'm destroying her computer I'd something
Oh, and I'm definitetly connecting to the router, or my laptop tells me it is, and yes, I'm using XP, I think that's everything
I fixed it! I went in my wireless networks then into change advanced settings, then to TCP/IP, and changed it from "use the following IP address" (which was my home one) to "obtain IP automatically" then I reconnected, and it started working. I'm posting from my laptop. Yeah! =D Thank's Ozzy, how do I make yours the right answer? I didn't see an option anywhere...
I'm going to assume you're using Windows XP on this one. If not, let me know and I can walk you through Vista or OSX.
You COULD try manually assigning yourself an IP address, subnet mask, etc. etc. etc. What you'd need to do to get that is log onto whatever computer they have working on their network, open up Command Prompt, and type "ipconfig /all" and hit "enter". This brings up a bunch of numbers, and what you'd be looking for is Ethernet or Wireless LAN (depending on how the computer is connected to the network). Get the Default Gateway, DNS Servers, Subnet Mask. Then, go back to your laptop and double-click on your Wireless icon, and in the tab to the left of Wireless Networks select "TCP/IP" and hit "properties" From HERE you should be able to manually assign all this IP fun stuff, and to get YOUR IP address simply change the LAST THREE numbers of the Default Gateway to anything between 50 and 255.
Hope this helped!

how to configure Samba, Squid, mail , dhcp , dns and nfs , web , mail sever in linux?
COMPLETE CONFIGURATION OF FOLLWOING SERVERS ON RED HAT LINUX 9 OR IN TERMINAL
You don't ask for much do you? LOL..
That depends a great deal on what you want to do. I strongly recomend moving up to a more modern distro. You are welcome to YM me and I can walk you through the configurations. Trying to do a tutorial on this would take forever, however the Linux Howto page has a tutorial on all of these topics and most Linux howto's are very good.
