Dns Server
dns server?
i have warcraft3 and i want to host games but i can't
i have been looking at a guide for port forwarding but i dont get how to get the DNS(domain name server)
The name server entries are a bit complicated. Name Server is just another name for DNS(domain name server) server. Some router's act as a proxy between the actual name servers and your computer. You will know when this is the case, because the Default Gateway will list the same ip address as the Name Servers entry. We need to have the correct Name Server IP addresses. If we do not, you will not be able to browse the web. There are a couple ways to get these. The first way is to log into your router's web interface, and look at your router's status page. On that page you should see an entry for DNS Servers, or Name Servers. Write down the ip adresses of your Name Servers.
i dont get it ^
how do i log onto my router's web interface?
i tried the thing you said but it says the page cannot be displayed
Open your browser and type
192.168.0.1 then press enter
this should bring up the login dialog
If you never changed the password then it should be admin/password or some variation of that.
After you log in, you can play around with port forwarding and all kinds of neat things.
How do i find my dns server and ip address for my area connection?
My router doesnt work and i think it is something to do with the ip address and dns server i am using.
i have tried running cmd but it doesnt work. Help!
to find the dns and ip address of the computer you are using, go to start->run type cmd and when the window opens, type
ipconfig /all
this will give you all that info. if cmd isn't giving you the cmd prompt window, go to start-all programs-accessories-command prompt.
If you want to know the public address your router is getting, then it depends on the router, but you can always go to whatismyipaddress.com to get that ip
if this doesn't work open notepad and type this:
cd \
ipconfig /all>ipconfig.txt
and save this to your desktop as something.bat
double click this on the desktop and look in C:\ and you will see a file called ipconfig.txt that will have the info you need
What is DNS server and why is it causing problems?
I just set up my Linksys wirless router thats hooked into another router (wired). I have my Xbox 360, PS3, and PC hooked into it and Im having problems with the 360 and PS3 at times. Sometimes the gaming systems wont connect and when I run the test it says the secondary DNS server is causing an error. Anyone got any input on how to remedy the DNS problem?
You could setup the dns server manually, or run the second router in bridge mode. Manually entering the ip range and dns server will create a static ip and therefore the router that is actually getting the internet connection will use those settings to connect the second router to it. If you use it in bridge mode it won't need to assign any ips or use a dns server as it will simply pass the connection along to whatever is connected to it. Of course the simpler solution is to get rid of the second router as it seems a might bit of overkill if you already have a router that's connected and working. Whether its wired or wireless they all have "extra" connections you can use, most have 4 ethernet connections and wireless capabilities...so you don't need the second router.
DNS is Domain Name Server and is required to resolve ip address to names.....for instance, if you type www.yahoo.com the DNS takes the letters and converts them to an ip then connects you to the page....you could type the ip address directly and get to the same page but as soon as you click a link it reverts to the name of the page rather than the ip.
What is the porpuse of DNS server in Local Area Connection?
I have comcast cable and use modem only. When I go to Network property, I see manually assinged DNS server IP address. What is hte porpuse of DNS server?
A DNS server translates domain names into IP addresses. Usually, your Internet provider will automatically give your computer or router the address of a DNS server to use. But if you have your own DNS server or want to use the services of a company like OpenDNS.com you can put the addresses of your preferred DNS servers in the blank.
How do I change my dns server from Centos?
I have a system with CENTOS and I need to change the primary and secondary dns server addresses (the centos machine is NOT a dns server -- think of it like a workstation). How can I change the dns server address? I didn't see it under /etc/sysconfig/networking
open your network connections, right click on your connection (the adapter connecting to the net) click properties. Then highlight internet protocall (tcp/ip) click properties, it"s in there
how do i fix an error saying unable to connect to your dns server on my ps2?
I am trying to play a game using my ps2, it is connected to the internet, but says unable to connect to DNS server.. what can i do to fix this?
The error number it gives me is Network Error(-612): There was no response from the DNS server. Please check your network configuration.
Its either your network not connecting or the games online servers are down.
How do I make my own DNS server?
I don't know where to start. But i want a DNS server of my own.
Please help!
The easiest way is to buy an operating system like Server 2003 that has DNS capability. But why do you want that anyway? Unless you have a big network, there's no point in having your own DNS.
How do I add a DNS name for a local computer accessed via intranet without ading a DNS server?
I would like to host http pages to my local network. I would like to add a hostname to the server computer so that other people on the network can browse by the hostname rather than by the computer name. How can I do this without setting up a DNS server? or is it possible?
You could use a host file to do this. You will need to make static entry of the computer name and its ip address in the host file and distribute it to your client pc's.
You will find the host file in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc .
Open it with notepad and make the entry like the one in it showing the localhost address.
Copy the file to all your pc's C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc and youre done.
