Is it safe to Port Forward?
I want to make a halo dedicated server, but I think I may need to port forward. Is it safe to do so?

I have a son who has this game called Counter-Strike. He asked me one day if he could buy a server from this company called NuclearFallOut.com because he said that his dedicated server was not working for others. This dedicated server he told me about was basically the same thing as buying a server from someone else, but by using your own computer, you can host it yourself allowing others to join, too. Better yet...It's free!
So I decided to do some research on how to port forward my router that I have obtained from Vonage. They gave me a Motorola Model No. VT2442.
I went to www.portforward.com to read about my router because a friend of mine referred me to the site. After following what seemed to be easy step-by-step instructions, I was unsuccessful. I tried doing it about three more times, (my son was begging me, and I wouldn't want to waste money) but still, the issue persisted.
Is there anyone willing to help me personally?

I will. Enable remote administration on your router and e-mail me your ip address as well as the port for remote administration. Don't be afraid, the worse thing that could happen is you have to reset your router. here's my e-mail address

I've set up my own hlds computer and ran a cs 1.6 server off it. the biggest problem i had was configuring amx mod x
what do i put for my ip address in port forward?

Port forwarding tells the router to send every message that it receives on the ports you specify to the computer you specify.
So, the IP address you're suppose to enter is the IP of the computer that you want the message to go to.
In your case I would guess its the IP of the dedicated server you're trying to make.
BTW: you mention that your IP address if 192.168.2.1, from what I know its usually the IP of the router ...

i have tried and tried and tried to get a usefull answer for this site and now its my last try. I am trying to run a Source dedicated server from my pc in my house. we have a wireless router. A Belkin N Wireless router. I have forwarded the ports, done everything possible to get it to work , but then when i do get it to work, my family complain about them not being able to connect to the router. i dont know why this is happening as i put MYSELF outside the NAT firewall. this shouldn't affect them but it does. is there any way for them to still access the internet through the wireless router in my house, and me run the server?
i was talking to someone today about it and they said that i have to add a client to the router to be an administrator but i dont know how to do this.
