Dedicated Server Commands

Please help see if I really have 2GB RAM in my rented dedicated server?

If the units are KB, then it looks like you do have 2 GB total memory. But "swap" probably means that half of it is on disk, leaving 1 GB for RAM.

Help me to edit my /etc/sysconfig/rhn/sources file on a Godaddy dedicated server?
Hi, I am trying to edit a file on the root directory on my server. It is a dedicated server on godaddy. I have version CentOS release 4.4 (Final) i686 i386 GNU/Linux and the kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.10.EL and Apache (web server) Version: 2.0.52-28.ent.centos4 I have PuttY and CuteFTP Pro as well as the Simple Control Panel (Godaddy's Simple Control Panel) How can I gain permissions to edit that source file (or any other file in the root)? I am familiar with the su - root command but I can't find where to use it in CuteFTP. In PuttY I can gain root permissions but don't see a feature to edit and save a file like the FTP view of CuteFTP. In Godaddy's Simple Control Panel I don't see any option to let me do any sort of an edit and save the changes I made to a file. Help please, I am just learning!

ftp into root should never be done. Surely a user ssh connection with X forwarding on will allow you to access the machine, then calling up a root config tool, or a root file manager will give you full control on the machine. Do NOT allow root ssh logins!

What are some useful admin commands in Team Fortress 2?
I'm looking to set up a dedicated server, but I don't know how to change the map or ban people, or give buddies admin. Know any good references?

erm... im afraid i dont know any references, but i know a few commands. ban _____ is a simple one. changemap ctf_2fort is an example of another. and if you want to have some fun, sv_cheats 1 and then noclip is always good

changing unix user password on server?
Hi, how do I change my password on my unix user on my dedicated server. do I need to login through SSH? if so what commands do I use to do it etc. Thanks.

Yes, you log in through SSH and then type 'passwd' (without quotes). It will prompt you for your current password and new password and you're all set.

Running a Program as a Service?

I want it to run SILENTLY. (It runs in a CMD window) I can easily get it up and running, however I'm trying to close it, while keeping it run. Is there any way to do this? (I have Windows XP) I just want it to continue to run, without it showing on the "Start bar", so then I can keep it running while its being "invisible". I will be happy to answer any questions. Just a note: It runs just like CMD, even in a CMD window, the commands just work for Halo, instead of your computer. I have found out how to have it run on Startup, but I want it to be able to keep on running "invisible" so I don't see the window. Thanks! =] ANY ANSWER WILL HELP. I'm looking for something like Fire Daemon, however minus the cost. :D

Upload to FTP site using Mac OSX 10.3?
I've been using the Connect To Server (Command-K) to connect to FTP sites, but I'm trying to upload a file by drag-dropping into the FTP folder. (I know I have the proper permissions since upload works using a dedicated FTP client). Does anyone know if the upload functionality works with the Connect To Server program in OS X? If not, what are my options to upload files without installing new programs (I need to teach someone how to upload to the FTP site) If anyone has any suggestions, it would help me out greatly.

ohhh Mac os ftp that is built into the finder and activated with command-k only opens a read-only connection to the server! why? I don't know! but it's been that way for a long time. Which dedicated ftp program do you use? I use Cyberduck (pretty simple and cool) if you really have to do it without an extra program you can start up Terminal, and use the built-in ftp command (it has no read-only restriction)

Help me with Linux firewall please!?
I'm accessing fedora 8 dedicated server (by SSH)and needed to turn off the firewall for testing.I already turned off the firewall by using the command 'service iptables stop' But it still seems to be blocking the port i wanted to access. (port 10000 actually, of webmin). I found out that it accepts port 80. And i can connect to it using the following: http://localhost:10000 http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000 (which is static ip address) http://127.0.0.1:10000 Help please...

see if iptables is blocking by issuing iptables -L if you see Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination then it is not due to iptables the problem is elsewhere but if you see some thing more than this then issue the command iptables -F it will flush all the current running iptables chain

graw2 starup error?
Ok every time I try to start graw2 (Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2) a command promp comes up and starts to load it looks kind of like this Loading... ]#########--------------[ Then a new window pops up and says this Crash in application version: 29980.2562 data\level\dedicated.dsf(-1): Server config has no level specified, add one in "/settings/dedicated_game_info.xml" SCRIPT STACK: data\level\dedicated.dsf(0) Renderer: threaded Physics : normal Now don't tell me that I do not have the system requirments cause this is what I have. OS: Windows vist home premium Processor: AMD athlon x2 dual 5000+ RAM: 4Ghz Video: Nivida GeForce 8600GT I've been trying to figure it out but maybe theres and expert out there that can anwser this for me.

1. My assumption is you have a different version with the server's version. Does this happen with all the servers you connect to? If so, make sure you download the latest drivers from the game's website. If you are connecting to a server with mods or anything, make sure you download that server mod add-on. 2. Make sure you are up to date with all your drivers, go to nvidia and download the latest video drivers for your videocard http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us ,also if there's any latest vista display drivers.
