Dedicated Internet Hosting

How do I startup and run a Counter Strike Source dedicated server to host over the internet so others can play
I want to be able to have a computer specifically made for just being a server on the internet. I have some friends across the US that would want to play. I have started one before using the GUI interface, but when it is running, and I can join the server, when I send the IP to someone, they cannot connect to it. Ideas? Also, give me as much info as possible to something I may be missing out on or explain the entire process of starting up an internet server for CS:Source. THANKS!

What makes a commission only sales position desirable?
I want to hire some commission only sales people but I want to offer a fair package and I want to attract some really driven, dedicated sales people. What items should I include in my job description/ad that will make the position appealing? This will be for selling to school districts and Internet hosting companies.

Sales people will be attracted by the chance to sell an exciting product to interesting people, making a lot of money in the process. Thus, you need to convince them: -What they're going to sell will sell very well. -Via sales channels that are fun to explore. -At a reasonable commission for them. If you have a product that you can convince the sales people will be a big seller, that's your best selling pitch.

Internet Speed (Upload Speed) for server! Server questions and Hosting! - 10 points for best answer!?
I was wondering what is the minimum upload speed that is needed to host my own website: Libertycrd.com? Now the forum is small , but if it were to grow to tens of thousands of members what is the minimum upload speed would i need in mb's? The most i can get is 5mb download and 1mb upload. How much bandwidth would i need in Gigabytes per month to host a decent size forum, on a dedicated server say at macminicolo.net? How much upload megabytes per second do you think macminicolo.net, gives per dedicated server? Best answer 10 Points

Well one thing you have to think is how many users could be logged in at one time at the same time, & how fast you website is to load There might be 10,000 or so users But if each user accesses it for 20 minutes once a month the max traffic might bit 50 users at a time and average 10-20 users at a time. So if you don't have a lot of big Images or scripts that take ages to load that might be fine.

Source dedicated server behind a router.?
I have hosted a dedicated server by just connecting the internet directly to me (not trough a router) and it worked fine, now i cant do that anymore so im gonna have to try and get it to work through a router, so i have opened port 27015 (port source dedicated server uses) but the problem is when i start the server the ip displays as 192.168.1.*, now the problem with that is that nobody else can join since its my internal ip, does anyone know how to change that to my external ip?

You need to configure what is called a "port forward" on your router's admin page. It might be under the LAN settings, Advanced Settings OR it might be under "Virtual Servers" or "Security" settings. -- Depends on the router. Basically you need to setup a rule which tells your router that any traffic which comes in on port 27015 is "forwarded" or "routed" to the internal IP of your server. Otherwise, what is happening NOW, is that when a request comes in on an open port 27015, the router doesn't automatically block it, BUT.. doesn't know where to route it to. Since your server didn't request information from the incoming IP on that port.. the router essentially discards the packet. You see the router would only forward that packet to your server if the Server initiated the communication in the first place (outgoing request) But what you have is an incoming request. The router doesn't know how to handle that. The Port Forwarding rule tells it what to do with the incoming request. Also, so people don't have to type in your IP address.. make sure you have a domain name. If you aren't picking on the exact name.. use a FREE subdomain from www.dyndns.org -- they allow you to use one of their existing domains and forward to your IP address. That way, you just update them when your IP changes and the people connecting to you don't have to know it changed. NOTE: they have DynDNS update programs which automatically report your new IP to dyndns.org for you.

Buying a server? Using a hosting companys server?
I have just created a website that is guarenteed to get high bandwidth. I dont have a server(s) in fact I dont know much about servers. A hosting company has an offer for a dedicated server, I just simpluy upload my website to their server and they host the site. There offer includes UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH. However, they are charging £400 Per month. Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much it is to buy a server that would withstand high bandwidth. (im not talking YOUTUBE bandwidth here) however I would need a high amount of bandwidth. Also, If I do decide to buy a server and run my website from my own home, what internet providers would allow me to do this. as there is the "fair usage policy" Hope you can help....

If you can seriously anticipate that amount of traffic, you'll want to go with a hosted solution. A single server likely won't be able to handle it so you'll need a cluster and a website designed to run on a cluster. Rackspace is the host that I prefer for such critical websites.

photobucket won't load for me. some weird website comes up instead.?
http://www.atspace.com/dedicated-web-server-hosting-domain-articles-news/internet.html that loads instead of photobucket. wtf do i do?

maybe you're writing the link wrong? or maybe when the page loads, you click a link in the page and it redirects you to that instead. try it again maybe try clicking this link instead http://photobucket.com/ if it doesnt take you to the website, then something must be wrong with your server. try another uploading service maybe this one works just as well http://tinypic.com/

Photobucket?

I just went to the real photobucket without problem. I believe you have a browser hijacker. CWShredder is effective in removing many hijackers. > CWShredder: http://majorgeeks.com/download3019.html And regardless of whether CWShredder fixes the problem or not, I'd recommend following up with a full system scan with both Superantispyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. > Superantispyware: http://www.superantispyware.com/ > Malwarebytes Anti-Malware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html
