Create Domain
Is it illigal ? to create your own technology for creating domain names and Own server?
Would it be illagal to make your own domain names as much as you want with your own created technology ..and create your own server..
Domain names are controlled by Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers http://www.icann.org/ to prevent people to just creating domain names as much as they want.
If you have a new technology and new ways of creating domain names, you need to go through ICANN first.
How do i create a domain on laptop?
my brother just gave me his fairly new laptop, but it has the domain of his school. how do i get rid of that domain and create my own?
please be specific if you know the answer.
If you are able to login to the Laptop as the Administrator do the following
Windows XP
Right click on my computer
select Properties from menu
On the windows that opens select Computer name
Click the button that says Change
Select workgroup and name it ex."MyLaptop"
The computer will ask to be restarted
If you have a server running an OS like windows server and is a domain controller follow the same process
but instead of selecting workgroup select domain and type the name off the domain.
Notes:
And addition computer is needed to add this laptop to a domain
A workgroup is what should be used for a single computer.
If the account being used to login to this laptop it not an administrator you may not be able to remove domain name from the drop down and will have to reinstall windows to do so.

How do you create a domain from scratch?
I hav no idea at all what to do, I just want to know a couple of ways you can create a domain without a provider like bluehost.com
I am assuming you want to create a website.
A domain is simply a name like blahblahblahblah.com.
A website is a domain plus webhosting(bluehost.com mention).
1) So first, you need to identify a good domain name which either fits your interest or has keywords which matches the subject of your future website. A cool site to find domain names is nameboy.com. It is a site which allows you to type in a keyword and it comes back with domains which are avaliable.
2) Find a domain registrar, like GoDaddy.com and buy your domain. The domain will cost about $10 per year. There are many domain registrars but the biggest and safest is GoDaddy. 1and1.com is also a decent one.
3) Find a Web hosting company so you are able to actually create a website. This may be complex to a first time user, but if you are willing to work at it, you can do it. I also must add calling the hosts or using their online live support proves to be helpful.
4) Once you have your domain and your host, you will need to change your DNS name server on your domains registrar to point to your host.
5) Create a webpage and upload the files to your webhost. (More complex, but this is the basics.)
Another Route for folks who are not web savy yet or want to get up and running fast:
1) The second route I recommend is starting out with blogger.com or wordpress.org. Both are very powerful blogging type sites with many options. Also, both sites also will teach you much needed steps to be able to maintain and manage a real domain.
Once you have an established blog with either of the two, you can then purchase a domain for around $10 per year and run it through blogger.com or wordpress.org for free. This option will save you the monthly hosting fee which is around $10 a month. Both sites have detailed information on how to run your blog through your domain.
If you have additional questions feel free to contact me as I own a domain company and enjoy helping others.
How do i create a Domain with windows xp?
Hi I would like one my computers to connect to a domain name when I log in. I would like to know how to create my main server as a domain. Any advice would be great =)
You can make them part of a workgroup but other than that you need a computer that runs active directory or samba. Windows xp does not do that you need server 2000 or 2003 or vista server version. Linux runs samba but that is a whole different animal.

How do I create a domain?
please help me on the basics of this. i want to create a local domain on my network. how do i do this? please give references if you can. thanks :)
Domain names such as www.yoursite.com/org/net cost $10/year.
On a local network it'd be too pointless to set up anyway, Use an IP or openDNS so when your network types in www.madeupdomain.com it'll redirect to your site location for free ( being run on your site, server wise. )
How to create a domain?
I want to network few computers which are in a room. I want that one of them should be a server and all computers will be connected through internet from that computer. how could i create a domain so that all computers connect through that domain. Or is there any other way to network them?
there is no need to create a domain in order to do this, If you have DSL you may share your internet to all your computer with a DSL router and a HUB or switch, If you have a DialUp you may share your internet with a proxy software on the computer conected to the internet and a hub or switch, the term Domain is used to describe a set of computer with the same internet name and can be on diferent networks, the term Domain for Windows also include security issues and common policies for the computers.
If I create 3 domain names for the same website will my website increase on search engines?
I have a webisite (lucysflowers.co.uk) If I use 3 or 4 different domain names to get to the same site will it increase my search engines optimisation? For example if I use www.Flowers.co.uk, if someone searched for flowers would I feature near the top??? Any help for an internet novice would be great, thanks
If the content is truly the same, I would pick one domain and make the other domains do a redirect to the domain you prefer. For example, Google.com could do a permanent (301) redirect to www.Google.com, and then we would see that and generally choose the destination of the redirect. Having content from two different domains isn't risky if they are in different languages (for example, Chinese and English), but if you have the exact same content on two different domains, it's better to use a permanent redirect from the duplicate domains to a single preferred domain.
If you have mirror pages without a redirect, that can cause issues. It's better to use 301/permanent redirects, because Google might choose to remove or not to show the copy that you liked the best.
Does anyone know a free site where I can create my own domain name?
I am looking for a free site, where I can create a free website (Website, not webpage). Even if I have to pay a little I guess that is fine. However, I would like one where users have the ability to create an account.
You will have to pay for a domain name. go to http://www.1and1.com/?k_id=17282706 here you can create a domain for $6.99 per year. They have features that make it easier for a newcomer to create a website.
How do i create a DOMAIN name on dreamweaver CS3?
give me a simple answer please.. this is stressing enough just trying to
find out how to do this
Domain Name, is purely for human convenience, computers talk to each other using each one's Iinternet Protocol (IP) addresses, humans won't be able to remember 4 sets of numbers which are used in DN, therefore there's such thing as DNS (Domain Name Servers), where there are a bunch of computers holding countless Domain Names for human convenience... So, yeah, you have to buy one, unless you know and can like set up your own DNS if possible, but I don't think you can..., like you have to keep your computer on 24/7 30/12!!! Just buy one...
