I recommend GoDaddy for domain registration. I have not used 1and1 so I can't really say much about them. GoDaddy has a great reputation as far as domain names are concerned. They may not be the cheapest, but with something as important as your domain name, you want to avoid any possible complications. They offer automatic renewal and other helpful services. Recently there was a huge "scandal" involving registerfly, why not go with a company that has a proven track record? GoDaddy, in my limited opinion is the best for domain name registration for a number of reasons. You can always search for free discount codes online as they almost always have some promotion going on. Good luck!

Yes, the cheapest would work, but you also want to make sure that they stay inexpensive. Many promise you that the first year is cheap, but the subsequent years, they will charge more and for other things such as private domain registration (hiding your personal details from the public, which is important). Is there such thing as a free or very cheap private registration service for domain names?
Private registration costs too much if you want to apply privacy to a large portfolio of domain names. Is there a solution? The registrar that I use charges $9.95 a year per domain name. I have close to 200 domain names. It costs me a lot to renew my domain names already. I don't want to be paying so much for privacy too. By the way, I use GoDaddy, their private registration is too expensive. Sometimes they have deals, but not too often. Usually privacy will cost just as much as registering a new domain name. So, I'm ruling out GoDaddy for privacy.

The question may be very old but I want a service provider which provide free .info or .biz domain or may be other 1st level domain.
