Is it best to buy web hosting and a domain name from different sources....so you can easily repoint a domain?


Not only can you point domains to anywhere, you can also transfer them to and from different domain companies. If you have other domains, its easiest to keep them in one place. As far as I know, any domain company will allow you to point a domain to a different place. I am almost possible due to net neutrality, I don't think they can legally stop you from changing the pointer, or transferring a domain. Also, your domain isn't really hosted with the company, pointers are sent out to domain name servers which reroute traffic to your page. You won't lose your domain if the company goes out of business if your contact information is kept up to date in the domain registry, you can always port the domain to a new place. I have done this several times with a half a dozen different domains.

If I buy web hosting, can I use multiple domain names routed to different pages and how?
On the same host I would buy the hosting service, and then could I just register 2 domain names and have them routed to different pages on that same host so I could essentially have 2 different web sites?

Your hosting service will have to set up the web server to route one request from domaina.com to this directory and domainb.net to another directory. They may give you the option to configure this yourself. Hope that helps RJ

What is extra service or feature I should look when I buy web hosting?


Something else to consider: What's the administration interface? I'm kind of partial to CPanel, because I host a lot of domains for friends and co-workers and CPanel makes it easy to create accounts for them so they can each administer their own domain (but can't do anything to mine). Also, it's pretty easy to back up any CPanel-administered domain and move it over to a different CPanel-based hosting provider.

You can go to godaddy.com (or do a google search for domains and you'll find alot of companys where you can buy a domain). I know godaddy sells domains around $10. After you decide what your want your website name to be (domain), you need to get it hosted. Which godaddy.com also does hosting. Now of course this isn't free hosting. If you go with free hosting, you will have ads on your site. Ads to where you will not get any profit from. The company you are doing the free hosting from get the profit from the ads. After buying a domain and paying for hosting. Some hosting companies have website builders (which if you know nothing about web design, it be the best way to go..it's also free). Otherwise you can buy Adobe Dreamweaver or Microsoft Frontpage to design your website. (both are easy to use) To add google ads, all you have to do is sign up in google and add their html for the Ads to your website. Its real easy to design a website. Do not pay anyone to do it. People charge hundreds of dollars to design websites. IMO, designing a website isn't worth $400+

I use godaddy but just about any professional host also offers domain and private domain registration without having to buy hosting, but it does cost more for private registration.

how come i cant buy Yahoo Web Hosting?
I tried to fill out the online form for Yahoo Web Hosting. It keeps telling me to enter a valid credit card! I tried 3 different credit cards, from two different comuters, an two different IDs. I cleared cache and cookies, and placed 4 calls to Yahoo. 3 days later, I get the same results! I cant "give" Yahoo my money!!!
