Building A Website
Anyone know a simulation computer building website?
I want to estimate how much building a computer would cost and I would like to see which are compatible with each other. Anyone know a website where you pick each part and it estimates the price of a computer?
When I built my PC, there was a good Haynes book (I borrowed it out of the library) that taught me everything I needed to know (Build your own Computer by Kyle MacRae)
It is out of date now, but they might have released a new edition since
If you're trying to estimate the price of building a computer yourself, I suggest you steer clear of the sales sites that build a computer for you based on your specs, as they have buying power enough to buy components in bulk and get a discount.
What is involved in building a website and using ads to pay for it?
I am very interested in starting a website with information and advice about a couple different topics related to pregnancy, ect. How do I go about building a website like this? How do I go about having ads on my website to pay for it? How does that all work?
You need to research your topic very well, generate a list of keywords that are likely to be found by the search engines, and write unique and genuinely useful content about each keyword.
Once you have done this and have about 30 or so pages written, then you can start considering adverts. Google Adsense, Chitika, Kontera, and dozens of other companies can generate advertising revenue for very little effort.
My site (see the source list below) was done exactly like that.
I use SiteSell as my hosting provider because they provide all the tools needed to succeed (and they're not expensive!).
Hi I want to start building a website. Can I start building and save progress?
I have a handful of ideas to get me started but not enough for a complete website. Can I start building, save progress and keep building on it until it's good enough to put on the web? Also, I don't know html and I'm thinking of starting out with blue host. Is this a good route to take?
Ruby, I found a large online list of website hosting services. http://www.findwebsitehost.com Locating a local webhosting service might have advantages since you can visit their facility if needed.
How much should i charge for building and updating a website?
Anyone knows the guideline for quoting a company the price of building a website for them, and the price for subsequent changes and updates? The website uses only HTML, CSS, and Javascript for animation.
Depends on a number of factors, but mostly it depends on your skill level and abilities. Professionals charge by the hour; amateurs charge by the page. Sometimes people with pretty low skill level will sometimes still go into business doing sites for small companies that know very little about the internet, and don't understand how much things actually cost, and charge by the page. If you feel like you fit that niche and want to stay there, you could charge by the page.
I wouldn't.You should charge by the hour. Rates generally range from around $25/hr to 150+ per hour, again depending on your skill level.
Where can I find a good tutorial on the basics in building a ecomerce website?
I am currently looking to build a website. I don't know much about building websites but want to learn from scratch. I would like to know where can I find information that will guide me through all the steps. One book that will teach me all and won't have me going through other books for more information that will lead me to another book. Thank you.
w3schools can be a good start

Building a website on a Unix server, what is the difference between a windows server?
I am building a website utilizing php and mySQL. I have always had a windows based server and was wondering if there are any differences I should know of. I was under the assumption that I could just upload my html and script files the same way I normally would. Is this true?
Some Unix servers won't run script or data files with Windows-style line termination. For those, I have to run a utility called dos2unix (Google for it) on the files before uploading them. I have a couple of websites on Earthlink servers that require this treatment.

How do I get a form to submit throught the website I am building to the yahoo mail account?
I am building a website for a client for my IT class. We have created a questbook section in which their is a form customers can fill out. But we want the information to be submited to our clients yahoo email once the customer presses submit on the page. How would I go about making this happen? or rather what would be the HTML code for this action?
There are two ways to do this.
1) In the action attribute in your HTML form tag, you use mailto:My_Email@yahoo.com, where My_Email@yahoo.com would be the actual email address. If you do it this way, the email that your client receive would not in a very user-friendly way though.
2) You can create some kind of server script to handle the email. You can write it in Perl script, PHP, ASP, ASP .NET, JSP, ColdFusion, ...etc. You use these server side programming languages to capture the information on the form and format the mail in a user-friendly way. If you were to do it this way, the programming language that you use would depend on your web hosting company. The most common ones are ASP, ASP .NET, and Perl. You will need to check with your web hosting company to see what they support.
By the way, I am a web developer by trade. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
When building a website w Adobe Illustrator CS3, Fireworks CS3, or Photoshop CS3, what resolution should I use?
I have been using Adobe Illustrator CS3, Fireworks CS3, or Photoshop CS3 to build websites. When I start a new document it has an option to select your resolution. What it the best resolution to use for building a website?
probably something like 72 dpi, seems to be the standard web resolution. I'd keep it low so people with slow connections don't get too bored.
I'm building a website, and was wondering- How do I know my current screen resolution?
I'm building a website for school, and I need to compare my resolution to the schools.
I'm not the best with computers, more the Internet on it's own, so the simpler, the better.
:D Apologies if I put this in the wrong category; as I said, I'm not great at computers, and I'm not sure where this should be.
Click on "Start" (it is green). Click on the "Control Panel" and then you will see a screen pop up -- Click on "Appearance and Themes), then Click on "Display" -- When that screen comes up Click on "Settings" Tab and you will see your Screen Resolution and your Color Quality.
