Budget Web Hosting

How much to budget for web hosting?
I'm starting a web site that will include research & commentary on a particular industry, as well as a forum and links to news items of interest. Right now I have a $6.95 hosting plan that includes 350GB storage and 3500 GB/month bandwidth. I have no idea how much traffic this site will get and whether my current plan will be adequate. If I have Google ads on the site, will I always be able to cover my hosting expenses? Are there web hosts that allow you to scale up to a higher plan or a dedicated server, rather than charging for excess traffic? Out of curiosity, how much do you think ultra-popular sites like drudgereport.com or perezhilton.com spend on hosting?

Our web budget is shot! Can anyone walk me through the steps to add a link to our website?
We ran out of money to pay our web guy and need to do a bunch of things - like putting a link from one of our websites to another site - that will help us generate more cash flow. I'm the most technically inclined out of the three of us (uh oh!), so the task falls to me. I have Dreamweaver MX 2004 v. 7.0 on my G5 running OS X.3.9. I'm working my way through De-mystifying Dreamweaver... and The Idiot's Guide to Web Design, but at this rate it'll be Thanksgiving before I get anywhere. Can anyone just give me the basic steps to add a hyperlink on our website - perhaps using a GIF, JPEG, PDF, or whatever format of a graphic file that I will design in Adobe Illustrator - as a GUI over the link? I.e., when all is said and done I want visitors to be able to go to our main site, view the ad for the other site, click on it, and be re-directed to the other site. Our web host is Register.Com. Thanks! Dave

Which Content Management Service and which web hosting service should I use?
My goal is to host my personal webdesign portfolio. I need to have this features: a blog, a CMS to help me organize the content (I can read some code but I'm not a programmer), a photo gallery, RSS feeds. I need a CMS (open source) and host (budget= $10/month) that are easy to use and have a lot of features. Please give me the names and tell me why they are better than others. Thanks!

To host your site for free, I would highly recommend the following 2 sites. Awardspace -> http://www.awardspace.com (PHP + MySQL) 50webs -> http://www.50webs.com Both of these sites allow you to host for free and does not have any advertisement pop ups like those provided by geocities. I have sites hosted on both the companies. Example Awardspace -> http://www.wanginternet.com 50webs -> http://cctvcamera.50webs.com Also, read a review I wrote on Awardspace at http://www.wanginternet.com As for CMS, go for either Wordpress or Mambo. WangInternet.com is on Wordpress and I love it. It's easy to set up and it's easy to use. Hope it helps.

Where can you find this web questionnaire sample?
I'm on a budget and need to make a web questionnaire to be filled out by a dozen people located around the nation. The people need ot be able to save their questionnaire and change their answers at a later time if need be. I looked into hosted web survey places and asp database creation, but can't find a hosted place that allow for saving or a sample database that will allow me not to have to start from scratch. Any suggestions? It needs to be online, with a save/load option, and the answers exportable to excel. Thanks!

Cheap but GOOD web hosting for drupal (maybe)?
I need a website for this online magazine, probably will store a lot, and we suck at coding...so we will need an online CMS, like drupal, to help us out. We are on a limited budget. I've heard there's free hosting out there, and you just have to pay for the domain name, comes out to $6/year. Anyone know the names of any reliable hosts that fit this description - or close to this description? $13/month is way too expensive. Like I said I'm looking in the $6/year range. Why would I need that many domains, if I'm only creating ONE website?

Hi, I can fully recommend Hostgator Web Hosting. If you only need 1 website they have an account that would be ideal for you at just $4.95 per month! I have used Hostgator as my web host for over two years now and have been very very impressed with them. Firstly they're very cheap but still give me more web hosting space and bandwidth than I'll ever need and a 99.9% uptime guarantee and great customer support. You can find them at http://www.webhostgator.info I hope that helps.
