How can I go about hosting an armwrestling competition?
I own a bar in Long Beach CA and am curious as to how to go about hosting an armwrestling competition.

You should visit Local Competitions in your city and talk to the Organizers and help them to Volunteer their Competitions much before the day of the competition.....while you volunteer Make a check list (Guidelines, Vendors, Supplier of equipment, Permission from County or sports Authorities, etc). I am sure you know what i mean. What is involved in hosting an open house? What do you do exactly?
How do you choose the best house to hold an open house for? Is there generally just one agent hosting an open house at a time?

Well I have seen HGTV on TV and they usually have 2 people hosting an open house... One to greet folks that walk in and tell them about the house... And one other person to actually take people on the tour... You usually have some refreshments on hand like drinks and cookies... You make the house you are selling as attractive and clean as possible to bring out its good points... Making a house smell good with candles is always good... It makes people remember how good it smelled when they walked through...

Can you write-off any expenses of hosting an exchange student on your taxes?
I am paid a monthly amount by a local school for hosting an exchange student in my home. At year-end I am 1099'd and need to report the amount as taxable income. Can I offset this additional income tax with any write-off of expenses incurred, like for providing food, heat, water, etc.?

Actually, there is a deduction available under some circumstances, if you itemize. See page 152 of IRS Publication 17 under the heading "Expenses Paid for Student Living with You". If you qualify, the deduction would be itemized as a charitable deduction.

What's the rule of thumb on hosting an open house party?
How long should you live in your new purchased home before hosting such party? Would you register somewhere for gifts? I have lived in the home just short of one year, is it still too late?

A housewarming party is associated with gifts for the house. You can do that soon after you move in. In contrast, an open house is just a "drop by" party. Gifts aren't expected, though people may bring small hostess gifts. Registering for a hosewarming party is controversial. when i was in jr. high i went to england and stayed with a host family (only for like a few days tho) i (and others in the program) gave them: -small USA items (such as little flags, etc) -also local items (i'm from arizona) so i gave them like Grand canyon stuff, postcards, southwest cookbook, etc. --i think it would be a good idea to give them a cookbook with a favorite recipe and then you guys can make it together! :)

I am a university student and I am thinking of hosting an after exams house party. Any ideas??
Everyone in the party will be atleast 19 years old and there will be an equal number of boys and girls. The people who will come will all be good friends who we can trust not to steal. And i will serve alcohol and play music for sure!!!! No party can be without those 2 things.

make meals that have an animal theme or planet..go to food netwrok .com they have real reviews of the food you can even find help... set up stations with cook rocks magnifing glasses..and cool science experiments....challenge them (dependnt on there age) to make boats or the tallest paper building out of paper and 10 in of tape....hire a vetinary (you can pay per hour) to bring in animals....even a police man..with a k9 dog.

When hosting an art exhibit. What should you ask the building who is having you?
So far i am receiving some great answers to my questions. this is along the same lines but more detailed! I have a dance studio that is letting me host an art gallary! What should i ask them about restrictions? eg: how many holes can i put on the wall. is your building allowed to have wine drunk there? and i'm sure i'm forgetting to ask about a dozen more questions. I will say touching and painting walls, the liquor factor, schedule-hours and so on are very important but they also have a responsibility towards you and the work presented. Ask about security, opening hours, illumination, maintenance, parking, toilets and if they could collaborate directly with advertising or other costs like food. If you are planning to sale the pieces think about a commission for them. Talk about it and let them rise the issue, then offer your percentage. Try to find out if there is any kind of themes that might be found offensive or inconvenient (nudes?, homosexuality?) so you know in advance and don't get surprises later. Good luck!

I tried root beer, 99 bananas, and ice cream and it tasted great, so I decided to host an alcoholic ice cream party with lots of sweet, tasty drinks. Aside from the 99 bananas root beer float, I'm also going to serve mudslides. What else should I serve?

My fav ice cream drink is a "Pink Squirrel" 1 shot Creme' de Almond 1 shot Creme' de Cacao 2 scoops vanilla ice cream blend and serve!

Hosting an All White Dress Semi Formal Cocktail party and looking for token to give attendees.?
Hello, we are hosting an all white dress cocktail party and we are looking to give each guest a token for attending. Last year the attendees received white Mardi Gras beads. Looking for a better idea this year.

How about folding Geisha fans(cheap ones are available) or partial masks with the holder for the women and cheap Top Hats that can all be bought at the same place the bead were bought at. Peace & Love :)
